What is "film ply"? And where can i get it
Thanks for watching. Not sure where you're based but in Australia film ply is basically a plywood product with a phenolic coating on the faces. Its a slightly cheaper version of concrete formwork plywood available at Bunnings or other hardware stores. Hope that helps!
very pretty box.
Thanks mate!
My wife took my 8 oz hammer for her tool box. I was without on for two years until I decided a framing hammer was hot the tool for very small projects. I now have a new 8 oz wooden handle hammer.
I have since purchased a much smaller hammer for this sort of thing and I love it!
cutting the box into can be nerve racking. Next time before pushing it through, wax the table saw and fence.
Thanks Jerry! Sounds like a great piece of advice.
BEAUTIFUL Box!! A like and subscribe...appreciate the box, the explanation, editing and your humor!
Thank you for your kind words, and thanks for subscribing!
Beautiful build.
Thanks so much!
Many thanks for this. I am an Aussie living in Japan. Here if you want a decent saw it is Harvey or Harvey. Like you I am a little tight for space and would prefer a 24" version but they don't make it. I wrote to Harvey and they replied very promptly that they have no plans to provide the saw with a shorter rail option, so I am considering buying the 36P and cutting down the rails. Shame really as it couldn't be difficult for Harvey to make shorter rails. If you or anyone has advice regarding rail shortening please let me know; many thanks in advance. Don't know here you are in Australia but I go there every year to visit family; would love to see your setup ! Best wishes from the central Honshu mountains.
Thanks for watching, and thanks for getting in touch! I'm still really happy with the Harvey saw, it does a great job with everything I throw at it. I certainly don't have any specific advice for cutting down the rails, but I can't see why that wouldn't work. Maybe a reciprocating saw with a good carbide demolition blade on it, or a hacksaw with lots of patience and spare blades!
Great content Just finished my second video of yours. Hope your subscriber numbers increase. Mighty nice twin bedside tables. Keep it up bro.
Thanks Aaron, much appreciated. Thanks for watching!
Nice box. You've inspired me to make it this weekend. What did the box's dimensions end up being?
Good question haha! From memory I think externally it was 34x22cm. Thanks for watching and good luck with the box!
66mm depth of cut comes from 184mm blade. In Europe we get 190mm blade fitted. Great review, covered the important stuff.
Oh that's good to know, thanks for watching!
What is it with Australia and all that beautiful, black melamine? I can only find white in my part of the States. I saw some at Bunning's on my last trip over, but figured it would be too big and expensive to fit on the plane!
It's actually known as formply over here. It's an exterior grade plywood with a phenolic coating that makes it non-stick. It's used to make concrete forms. I don't know if there's an equivalent in the US?
@@RangeWoodworking Could it be concrete-forming ply ? We have a similar one over here (Japan) which has an epoxy non-stick coating on one side, in any colour you like as long as it is yellow !
I'm currently making my own wooden 1x4 cue case with no electric equipment whatsoever, yes its a challenge, yes its heavy, and I keep having trouble in finding those foam sheets since I don't know what they're called in the market here in the Philippines, so I was wondering if you could tell me what they're actually called 🥹 thank youuu🥹
Wow! Great job doing it all with hand tools, thats definitely not one of my strengths. In Australia the adhesive foam strips are called a weatherseal. They are put around doors to help reduce wind coming into homes. Here's an example on Amazon amzn.to/4c4th4R
Excellent video and process. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
Brewrific 🍺 ...the carrier was magic🎉
Thanks mate! I was surprised it actually worked first time
i know you arent drinking and wood working at the same time, but something about the beer in the workshop just doesn't look right hahaha
Yeah you've got to keep it responsible when actually woodworking, but a beer during the clean up at the end of the day goes a long way!
German beer hall girls can carry 6 pints in each hand, so your beer caddy can turn anyone into a “beer hall girl”. Bring on Octoberfest!
All they'll need is a dirndl!
Some great gifts there including the spinner!
Thanks! I had to include a bonus idea
That beer caddy is brilliant and versatile. You could prefill and take to parties rather than taking an esky!!!! Just need to avoid speed humps😂
🤣 It would certainly be a nervous drive!
Some great ideas! The pints holder is really cool and a really unique idea for parties and other gatherings!
Thanks Rob! It was fun to make and I look forward to wowing everyone next time I have people over
Nice job. I made my cue case over 30 years ago using a solid piece of Brazilian mahogany which I routed out so no joints necessary. Lined it with red velvet from the curtains in my local pub 🍺when it was having a refit😂Wish those hidden hinges had been available at the time as I used four small butterfly hinges and four matching catches as well as two brown leather straps to keep it secure. Finished it off with three coats of yacht varnish sanded with 1200 grit between coats if I remember rightly. It’s picked up a few marks over the years but still looks pretty good. That Beauty you made will last for years if looked after👍
Wow that sounds like quite an impressive case Ian. It's nice you were able to incorporate a bit of history with the old velvet curtains too!
Hope you rewarded the neighbors with a nice cold one.
They were certainly appropriately thanked 😉
Do you have plans for the router sled 🤗
Thanks for watching! Unfortunately at this stage I don't have any plans available for any of my projects however it's something I hope to do in the future.
Great vid! My dewalt has served me well ocer the years, but the noise it makes has always been an issue. Guessing the Harvey is much quieter with the cabinet right? How much quieter? Cheers
I think the best way to describe it is the DeWalt is like a banshee screaming, and when I start the Harvey it just hums.
01:40 you so much reminded me of Stumpy Nubbs earning his name while using angle grinder & hogging burr !! At least no blood spilled! 01:50 You're a paramedic, what happens when high pressure air + wood chips/sawdust+ eyes cone into contact? What is minimum PSI to pierce skin?
Thanks for watching. I don't really know where you're coming from, but with regards to your first point - I'm removing the soft bark and cambium from a soft wood slab, gently. I don't really see where blood was likely to be spilled, but you do you. As for your second point - I can say that I am happy blowing dust off myself with the air compressor, but if you're not, then don't. It's not high pressure by the time it hits me, unless you consider a Dyson hand blower "high pressure". Protective eyewear and my eyelids did and will continue to do a fine job in that setting. And despite my career, I don't need to know what pressure it takes for air to pierce skin, but I can confidently say that it is higher than my small domestic air compressor.
@@RangeWoodworking stumpy was using angle grinder (like you), grinding burr ( like you), using in awkward angle (like you) but yoy had sense to change grip & position! Btw Stumpy Nubs had that name before his major accident
05:50 simple calculator for measuring for base is use the length of the dado on the box panels, subtract 1-2mm to allow float for seasonal changes
Thanks!
You not worried about your saw hitting those brad nails?
Not in this case, they're only 23 gauge pin nails. The saw won't even notice them. And it would be relatively unlucky to hit one if they're spread out
CJ Wiley?? Maybe? Maybe?😊
Haha I'll stick to woodworking. My pool game is very sub-par.
Nice
Thanks!
@@RangeWoodworking np
Hi, great video and even better to see an Aussie review. I just paid for the exact same saw to replace the exact same Dewalt you have. My only difference will be that I will have to get mine off a trailer and not a Ute. Thank goodness I have a set of ramps for it, but it will still be fun. 😂
Haha I'm glad to yeah you should hopefully have a better time unloading than I did. Enjoy the saw!
Not wasting my time where the content creator is either unwilling or unable to speak and articulate their process.
Yeah I wouldn't either. But over 16000 people have watched this without the same concern. Even I just re-watched it to check and I did in fact explain each step. Maybe have another crack with it not on mute or with the closed captions on?
I just finished assembling my new Saw. After watching your Video.....I went out and reinstalled the Motor Bolt that I left astray. It ran, but squealed. I had similar issues figuring out what the instructions lacked. Thanks for the video. Jim
Thanks for watching. Glad to hear I could help, that bolt is easy to miss!
Have ya ever made a pool q And case?
I've made a cue before. At the moment I don't have a lathe or any woodturning experience so I wouldn't even know where to start!
Your shop is awesome
Thanks!
For the love of God, use a push block/stick before you lose your fingers...
Noted. Thank you.
Great piece of furniture. Good Job. You mentioned in this video just once I think a special tool. I think you called it a domino - just not sure I heard properly as it was only once I think you mentioned it. I will have to re watch to make sure but again thanks for sharing. I learnt some cool stuff
Thanks! I'd have to re-watch the video again but I suspect the tool was a Festool DF500 - colloquially known as a "domino". It's a machine that quickly and accurately mortices for floating tenon joinery.
Sorry mate, I was just using a touch of sarcasm as you mentioned how much you loved this domino machine@@RangeWoodworking
Haha I thought that might be the case, but I'd hate to be presumptive! And I do love that machine lol
Ty for sharing, just a quick question, why did you not do the metal detector prior to the planning, surely it would be better remove any nails or metal before any cutting blades. Again another great video. Dont suppose you are in SA by any chance.
Thanks! I could have used the metal detector, completely. But to thoroughly check every side of each piece of timber would be quite time consuming whereas a spare set of electric planer blades is $15. To me the time saved by just ripping through the paint and identifying any nails that way was of greater value than a $15 set of blades. Obviously it's a different situation if you don't have an electric planer. I certainly wouldn't risk the blades or inserts in my jointer or thicknesser. I'm based up in QLD.
Ty, always great to see, thats next on my list. I was looking at the Timbercon model, much the same but I am convinced now about the paralleogram after seeing yours. TY
Thanks again! A big deciding factor for me is location also, Sherwood and Timbecon are based in Melbourne and Perth from memory which would make any issues more complicated whereas Carbatec are only 90 minutes away for me.
Great video and thanks for sharing. I am a utube nobody as well.. Can I ask where you got yours and where in Australia are you. I just ordered mine from Gregories Machinery who just went broke. I am expecting it tomorrow and looks like I was lucky as they sent it the day before they shut down. I will post my video as well. Look forward to seeing more of your videos
Hopefully it arrived safely! I got mine from Gregory's also. I didn't realise they'd closed.
Anybody can make a vid of someone cuting, gluing and screwing.... Where's the details? Nothing is being told.... This is not a "how to" vid this is a "watch me do this" vid.... Lame 🤗
Cool I guess anyone can make a vid of that, and a lot do. Thanks for watching and commenting to feed the algorithm though and feel free to check out my other "watch me do this" videos too!
@@RangeWoodworking I have to say your vid was inspiring, sorry for using lame, it just lacked details.... Great vid 👍..... I am subscribed 😀
Thanks mate, at the end of the day inspiring is always the aim. Just make the sled that suits you and use ideas from this to make your perfect sled. Thanks for subscribing!
The tracing out on paper was something that I really liked and will be adopting in future on my own project great work
Thanks!
You should do to sell them 🙂
Thanks! I'll definitely think about it in the future.
The case looks very nice. You did a great job on the staining and the laser engraving. Why didn't you also put some felt piece in the channel to protect the cue stick a like bit more?
Thanks for watching. I honestly don't remember why I didn't. It may have been an aesthetic decision?
I have a similar jig but never did make a stop for it. I noticed your stop was set to the inside dimensions of the frame, not necessarily for the size of the picture going in the frame. is that correct or did I miss something?
No that's correct, I made it for the internal dimensions. This made more sense to me as it took the brain work out if I wanted a frame in a different size to the picture.
Appreciate the video. I am setting mine up today. My question is, did yours come with a right cast iron wing? mine did, should I not use the cast iron wing, when adding the extension wings?
Mine just has the one cast iron wing and one composite wing. I would certainly use both cast iron wings if I had them!
Please tell me where I can purchase the Hidden hinges bored into the case.
Here's an Amazon link to them! amzn.to/3TeMmKc
Great video, thanks. Hope to get one of these soon! Appreciate the detail in your video on the setup tips and tricks.
Thanks for watching! I hope its helpful when you get one
So the boxes that are stuck inside the cabinet body ... you just left them in there?
No no I definitely got them out eventually, either from underneath the saw body or when I was able to raise the motor to free up some space.
Great work for a weekend mate. When you find a way to have one uninterrupted let us know!
Haha thanks mate. If I work that one out I think there'll be a few people asking for the secret!
Awesome build! Also, nice hip-thrust action on the Domino 👍😁
Haha thanks!
Can you get this for the uk?
Probably? I think Axminster tools have a relationship with Harvey. I'd start my search there.
