      Spearfishing with a polespear is certainly doable. More challenging than using a speargun. If you can get good with a polespear, you'll be great if you decide to upgrade to a speargun.

      Keep an eye on weather conditions, and find a nice sheltered bay out of the weather. Look on Google maps for such places with reef or structure. Seagrass and rubble also offer different sealife. Headlands generally have more fish activity, but that's due to currents. Probably best to keep the younger spearos inside the bay until they are more confident and capable at swimming and understanding ocean conditions.

      No license is required to spear fish in coastal waters around Tasmania in 2024. You do need a license for lobster, abalone, and scallops. Use the Fishing Tas app to check for any restrictions in certain areas.

    • @CameronSmithDiving
      @CameronSmithDiving 8 місяців тому

      Kingies do come through, not as commonly speared here, though. Same with snapper. Anywhere on the East Coast is awesome. Only issue is that not many employment opportunities match the cost of housing over that side. Sensational for camping trips and shore diving.

    • @CameronSmithDiving
      @CameronSmithDiving 8 місяців тому

      @@joek292 If you can get to Hobart, Freedive Tasmania specialises in Freediving gear, and GoDive have a huge range of gear. Can always ask GoDive to match Adreno prices too. If you're in Launceston, you've got Tasmanian Divers Group. Adreno is the big name online for Australia (almost like the Australian Amazon for diving). Their prices are pretty good, but there can be issues that you won't have to worry about if buying local. I'd recommend that you get fit out at your closest dive shop, then order stuff online if you really want an item and can't find it here.

      So many awesome ways to do ceviche! The wrasse one was a little different, in that we used a bit of a soy, ginger, chilli sauce in with it. The other one was a traditional Chilean style ceviche. Personally, I like to use more lime than lemon, usually going a 2:1 ratio (or sometimes completely lime). A bit of sesame oil is also a great trick! I've posted another video with a herring cale ceviche, which is a go-to of mine including some Mexican spices: ua-cam.com/video/Ks4obFQIwMI/v-deo.html Not the most sought after fish, but gotta be my favourite for a ceviche!

      I haven't shot one mate, but have been with a mate that shot one at Bicheno. Both black and silver drummer are on the East Coast of Tassie (at least over the last few years). I reckon you probably saw one!

      @mistergormsby they are down here, the other day I shot a 55cm silver drummer out of Fortescue Bay. Binalong ends up getting a lot of northern species because of its proximity to the East Australian Current- it’s why it has huge urchin barrens whereas they haven’t reached further south as extensively yet.

    Dang, you uploaded in 4K! I can watch this and feel like I'm really there by getting a sea breeze from my struggling computer fan

    Really good video. Refreshing after watching endless videos of kill shots. Well done. I see you are trying to organize a club in Tassie. Good luck with it, and I hope you get somewhere trying to veto the proposed changes. Is there some way interstate spearos like me can help?

      Cheers Paul. The best thing anyone can do to help right now would be to help out with the surveys. The fisheries one, in particular right now: fishing.tas.gov.au/community/fisheries-management/management-changes/scalefish-fishery-rule-changes/scalefish-fishery-rule-changes-have-your-say

      Yeah mate, it really is. We've got such a special underwater world to explore around Tassie, and each location is special and unique.

    Any good spots on the east coast

      More good spots than bad on the east coast! Whole coastline is awesome. For shore diving, look at the swell in the area you want to go, then enter where it's sheltered. Points and headlands are generally good. When you're in the water, try to find where the currents converge.
