Kariba Dam Rehabilitation Project - a Global Gateway Flagship project in Zambia
Kariba Dam provides 85% of Zambia's energy, making it a critical infrastructure for the region. The Kariba Dam Rehabilitation Project (KDRP) is a flagship initiative under the EU's Global Gateway, focusing on ensuring the dam's stability and longevity.
The EU's investment has been specifically directed towards reshaping the plunge pool at the dam's base, addressing severe erosion caused by water flow over time. This rehabilitation is vital for maintaining energy security, effective water management, and socio-economic stability in Zambia and Zimbabwe.
This documentary presents insights from EU officials, Razel Bec Engineers, Zambian staff, and international partners involved in this project.

    As a Zimbabwean I am so ashamed of what we have become as a people. Zimbabweans spent decades tarnishing and sabotaging their country, now they are surprised that nobody respects them. The EU is funding this project and giving jobs to Zambians because they know the Zimbabwean government is corrupt and most Zimbabweans dont care about their country anyway. They are busy hating on each other and their country even if it's nothing to do with politics. Border jumping to South Africa and getting xenophobed.

The hard but brittle rock was cracked along that fault plane so pieces of rock were essentially being 'pulled' out of that narrow fault, especially when the gates were open, and threatening the stability of the wall. The steel reinforced concrete is consistently strong and won't crack.

    All my life, I believed that some people were truly humble. Growing up in a town, especially in mining towns, I saw people from other countries especially Zambians and Malawians feeling comfortable and free working in Zimbabwe. It seemed normal to me. I never realized it could be such a big deal to be in someone else’s country. In my country, we have Zambian and Malawian dominated communities that have lived here for generations; they have made this place their home. We can no longer separate them from us because we belong together. However, suddenly, some people seem to think they have made it in life esp Zambians. Although I don't see anything particularly special that they have which we do not, they have started to act as if they are more valuable than others, casting aspersions every day. Ironically, these are the same people we helped, who are now denying us in front of everyone. I repeat, they possess nothing that we do not also have-just an unfounded sense of superiority, without anything tangible to show for it. Lets stay humble my friends you're not yet there.

      😂😂😂😂 HOW DID YOU HELP ZAMBIANS? Zambia lost a lot in terms of life and finance from helping Zimbabwe get it's independence. Zimbabweans would laugh at Zambians at one time even after helping you attain your independence and calling Zambians "Economic Refugees" when Zambians were passing through economic hardships, the only country Zambians have felt at home and so free and never called names is Tanzania... Zimbabweans after their independence, looked down on us Zambians because our economy was in a crisis but fortunately the tables have turned and you want to make it look like Zambians are bad people... you are just having a taste of your own medicine, live with it. If there is nothing in Zambia why are Zimbabweans crossing the border? I have inlaws coming into Zambia even for treatment and buying medicines because they can not afford the cost of medical treatment and medication, our health facilities are better and cost lower than what would be charged in Zimbabwe... my friend you do not know what you talking about.

      @maluba2002 I hear your sentiments and am equally a Zambian but should we not be talking unity? Where is the spirit of pan africanism that KK, Nyerere, Kenyatta and Nkhuruma for so hard for. What profit is there for our countries to be divided and should we proudly repay evil for evil. In 1994 I was in Victoria falls town and the treatment we got there from one particular fuel attendant left an aftertaste but why hold unto such an experience. Although one thing that has not sat well with me is the statement by Hon Mnangagwa to the Russian president, there are better ways of venting such issues unlike the way he handled that.

      @@maluba2002 Didn’t you hear what i said or you can't read. We still have large Zambian communities, some of whom only obtained national identities as recently as 2010. Thats the help im talking about. Many who are still reluctant to register for their national identity, are being referred to as aliens. I have never heard anyone refer to your country negatively; all my life, I have known Zambia as our sister nation. This issue only started during the current administration under HH. Your economy is still in a significant crisis. While it might be slightly better than ours, there is nothing of major significance that you have, which we don’t. You still face electricity shortages, you are losing control of airports to foreign investors, and still celebrate the construction of roads and streetlights - issues that are prevalent in my country and across many African nations. It’s likely that your in-laws prefer visiting because their spouses are of your origin. The only country we turn to for better healthcare is South Africa, or perhaps Botswana; the rest, including yours, are in a similar state.

    Awesome information. I visited it in 2019 to see what my uncle had helped start so long ago. He was involved in the surveying of the gorge before the wall was started, and later during construction. My own Dad visited with he when he was about 12-14 years old to see the start. It is an epic story to read the making of the Dam and the book "Kariba, The Struggle With The River God by Frank Clements, Hardcover 1959" is a brilliant insight.

    Zimbos, where do base your arguments that your economy is better and bigger than that of Zambia? Nigeria is set to lose its position as Africa largest economy , this is after its currency lost 50 percent of its value in a year from 1 USD = 500 naira to 1 USD = 1500 Naira. It is known that Zim abandoned its currency after it collapsed, crushing down speedily, from 1 USD = 8000 Zim dollar to 1 USD = over 40,000 Zim dollar in just four months...Yet Zimbabweans estimates their economy to be 43 billion USD to 73 billion USD... where do you base this growth from? It is well known that when a currency losses value, the economy shrinks [ reduces in size] yet the zim economy grew against all odds... the ZIG upto now cannot be used to measure your economy as it is just a phantom currency.

    • @enerstbhodho5528
      @enerstbhodho5528 Місяць тому

      Well, it could be because the Zim economy mainly functions with the US dollar, so the loss of value in the ZIG does not affect the salaries (buying power) and production of goods and services as the underlying pricing is done in US dollars. That's also the main reason why introducing a new local currency has been difficult, it seems people think in US dollar terms. Everything else is just noise to them.
