@3:45. Yes, a class of “slave”, (Slav), those in the east were accustomed to. The Bolsheviks were cruel and murderous to their own people, imagine being one of the “invaders“ like this brave man. Or God forbid one of the 105,000 that surrendered with FM Paulos. Although 97% of Americans wanted nothing, ZERO, zip, ZILCH, to do with the military conflict gathering momentum as Churchill and Poland really fanned the flames in 1938 and 39. The government acted without involved its citizens of the republic. Roosevelts cabinet, who was responsible, betrayed a beautiful, peaceful, and finally re-United Germany, as well as the rest of the world when the “Lend-Lease Act” was pushed through government illegally… many experts believe that with out all of those American supplies, food, clothing, weapons, transportation, ammunition, etc. that the communist state USSR, (responsible for 55 million DEAD), do you have class by the end of 1942, early 1943.

Another former Nazi with lies to tell. What he's saying about Poland was German propaganda and completely untrue. Maybe this guy was misled and still believes it but he should have picked up a book and done a little research. The Polish were not hanging German minorities. That was German propaganda to invade Poland. They also created a false attack on a German radio station so that they could start the war. The narrator should have challenged him but nobody wants to be mean to an old man. This is bad history.

I’m amazed at how all of he audience thinks the Russians were grand and wonderful victors. Gross ignorance! The average German soldier was not a Nazi nor was every Russian soldier a communist. Few German soldiers ever saw a death camp and few Russian soldiers took prisoners to Siberia. But….I’ll believe the Soviet cruelty exceeded that of the Germans. The Russian hatred for the invaders was perhaps justified but cruelty against other human beings in the name of political ideology is worthy of damnation to the deepest hell.

He stated that he wanted to commit suicide rather than be captured. He then stated that he was unable to access his gun as it was beyond his reach. He then surrendered to the Russian soldiers. If he had genuinely wanted to commit suicide all he had to do was to run and the Russians soldiers would have shot him. This man's excuse for surrendering to the Russians and not committing suicide is questionable. As a result the remainder of this man's testimony must also be considered questionable regarding his time as a p o w in Russia

Rough combat operations on both sides of the conflict. The orator asked very important/informative questions only the guest speaker could answer. He was very fortunate to have returned home from Russian incarceration. And enjoy a long & fruitful life.

Believe it or nor. I met Mr.Scherer yesterday afternoon (February 10th) in a Tim Hortons restaurant in Hawkesbury, Ontario. He was sitting with a group of friends of mine. He is now 99. He lives alone in his house and I saw him drive his car when he left. It is him who told me about his book and Melanie Willard. Six days earlier, I met another gentleman of German origin who is 101 years old in the same restaurant. He had moved to Canada with his family in 1926. He served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during WW2. He had quite an extraordinary life flying bush planes in Northern Québec till he was 80. I have met two remarkable men by pure chance in a single week. I will buy Mr.Scherer's book.

Interesting that he didn't hold the Internationalist Cabal responsible like many of his fellow countryman and also many Poles... he didn't see their role in orchestrating the other nations of the world to unite against Germany? I mean we supported STALIN - even worse! Clearly the west united only to save that internationalist cabal, and not to liberate oppressed peoples. We should've aided Germany in defeating the SU.

Hearing this man speak is incredible. How priveleged we truly are. Anyone reading this comment is truly priveleged to be alive and in their current condition. 40-50 lice in any given hour crawling around on your body while working on miserable sleep, no food, under constant abuse and stress, while facing severe privations from even the simplest amenities and facing the vast unknowingness and uncertainty of basic survival... where the will to live was found I will never understand... I hope he had a wonderful life after enduring such hardship.

Vielen Dank für Ihren bescheidenen Dienst, Herr Scherer. This man is German through and through, open, honest and frank as can be. I can only imagine the evil and darkness he was forced to fight thru, forced to witness, and ultimately overcome. Unthinkable acts to those whove not seen war. Surviving all the horrors of war only to spend almost 5 years in a place that im sure was10x as horrific.. I wish people spoke more of the concentration camps in Soviet Russia, even what the US Army did post-war to German prisoners... Eisenhower declared themselves as an "Occupying Force of a Hostile Territory" therefore Surrendered German Soldiers were NOT Prisioners Of War, sidestepping International Law of Conduct put forth by the Geneva Convention. In 7 short years supposedly AFTER the fighting, and death had ended, 4.4 Million, (other estimates up to 5.3 million), 4,400,000 to 5,300,000 surrendered German soldiers ended up dead between 1945 and 1952. The only way numbers like that occur is when it's on purpose. Heartbreaking. We're the Allies really the good guys? I often wonder.

I've binged watched the interview series and just came to this video. I'm myself a Roman Catholic convert from Atheism and a young man living in Britain, and I am struggling with sin of late and trying to remain cheerful about my life material and spiritual, but it's proving to be easier said than done. I'll keep it to the point but when Mr Scherer recounted his story with the nurse and the conversation with himself and the Lord on the train coming down the Ural mountains, I burst out crying buckets. Just sheer amounts of tears I thought I couldn't cry ever. I know nothing of suffering, yet never have I also felt so inspired at the same time by such a testimony of the Lord's faithfulness to his faithful - and I hope with the grace of God that I can even be a shadow of the faith like that of Mister Scherer. I hope a cause for canonisation may be opened for Mister Scherer in the years to follow, but the Lord truly knows his own. If it must ever come to it, purgatory will be a breeze for Mister Scherer, but I pray that the gates of Heaven are open immediately for you, Mister Scherer. Thank you for sharing his story, Melanie. God bless to you both.

All testimony adds to the information which can be used to put complex events in historical perspective. However there is an agenda here to allow stories to be told freely. I noticed Sherer expressed a view of contemporary German society which coincides closely with the Third Reich values. The fact that those experiences he had of community, levelling up and brutal military discipline are not explored with him is a list opportunity. His corporals would have been brutal even in the Hitler Youth.
