How To Make A DX7 E-Piano Patch on The Nord Lead 2X

First video on the new channel! This is a brief look at how you can dial in a Yamaha DX7 style e-piano sound on the Clavia Nord Lead 2X. We make use of the FM amount knob as well as envelope 3 and the filter. I haven’t had my coffee yet, but I found this video and is it me or did you get it backwards when you described how to connect a five pin MIDI to an interface? I’m pretty sure you got it backwards then repeated the same steps. Am I the only one that noticed? 😅

Hello, I have been searching forever trying to isolate my synthesizer sounds because my synthesizer is controlling FL studio's buttons as well. So when I play a song, random buttons are being pressed inside FL studio when I just want sounds to play, not my keys controlling random buttons at the same time. . Please help! thank you!
FL Studio will send midi data to your synthesiser and the audio will come back into FL Studio. FL Studio is in control but your synthesiser is also in control. You can't have two in control so you have to turn local control off on your synthesiser. If you speed up the bpm in FL Studio it will also control the speed on your synthesiser.

In my inputs, I only have options for my laptop microphone. How do I get all those extra inputs? I have connected an M-Audio interface with the 1/4in cables from my Synth to my Interface, yet it only detects my Mic inputs. I'm confused as to how to resolve this.
Someone please help, I can’t even get my Synth audio to go through FL. I have a microbrute, which has a TRS cable from its output going into a focusrite, which is then going into my computer. Still when I select inputs 1 and 2 no sound goes into the mixer. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I HAVE DONE THIS WITH MY ROLAND JV1080 I AM PLAYING MIDI THROUGH MY KEYBOARD AND PLAYING MIDI INTO THE PIANO ROLL PERFECTLY BUT WHEN I EXPORT THERES NO SOUND AND WHEN I CONSOLIDATE IT THERES NO SOUND IT ALSO JUST PLAYS EVEN IF IM IN SONG MODE WITH IT MUTED ON THE TRACK IN SONG MODE WEIRD CAN YOU HELP WITH THIS I THOUGHT IF I CONSOLIDATE IT I CAN MUTE THE MIDI AND CONTINUE SEQUCING IT AS AUDIO.. BUT I CANT GET A WAV OF THE MIDI ????

5:37 I’m having a weird problem , everything works fine but when I switch to port 1 to use piano notes ,not only do I hear my synth hardware but it also plays like a stock piano that is not a sound a from my synth hardware ,

my microfreak wont play externally but only internally when i hit piano roll notes. i have TRS into interface and MIDI I/O and usb all connected

I’m connecting my system with a usb midi and using a uad arrow interface . Is it possible to make it work or do I need a interface with midi inputs? I can’t audio whenever I have my usb plugged in and interface at the same time . When I select a channel it only shows me the interface inputs but the synth is connected via usb 🙃I’m confused

How do you compensate for latency of the external synth audio input?
You want to check your audio buffer size in FL Studio
@@kikostreams5042 that would reduce latency. But how do you compensate for it, so that audio coming from ext. hardware is in perfect sync with FL Studio tracks/software synths?

Any advice on midi play back jitter..for some reason FL plays back midi sloppy whether synths are connected thru midi or over usb..the timing is late and jumpy..any ideas?

Awesome video, great content. i just bought a jx-08 and tried to hook it up to my computer to use in FL 20 via USB-C. When i follow this procedure you showed, all that happens is the synth ends up controlling sounds within the DAW, but no sounds from the actual synth can be heard from the DAW. Makes no sense to me. Can anyone help please?
same issue--does USB-C only work as a MIDI controller (and not sending sounds)?

This is great, but what if I want to select a patch from a bank of preset patches of the hardware synth I connect. Some recent synths include a VST that can control the sound and even select patches. I know FL Control Surface is there to create such an interface but there is very little information on this option.
Thanks so much- I thought I'd rip my hair out before I get it to work but your second video really helped. watched the first one like a 10000 times just to get the sound working but not the midi and now bothj works (For those with problems, check channels and ports)

Can you detail what other cables you need please? I assume I have to also have my synth connected to my PC for this to happen too via a USB/printer cable?
Sorry for late response, yes, if you're using USB MIDI then you connect the printer cable to the back of your synth and the USB A side to your laptop, then you can select the MIDI Output and Input under the MIDI tab (your synth's name/company should show up, if it doesn't look up if this synth needs Drivers to be installed from the company website)
Just got an Arturia Microfreak and I've followed the steps I found in your tutorial and elsewhere but I'm not getting any audio. The little orange knob in the upper-right lights up when I hit notes, but no audio. I'm not finding anything to clarify what I'm doing wrong. Every time I get new gear there's ALWAYS some sort of initial hiccup. HELP!!! Thx
So remember, Audio and Midi are 2 COMPLETELY different processes. For audio you plug in the TRS cable from the outputs of your synth into your interface. Then in FL you make sure your audio interface is selected under "Audio settings" then go to any insert on the mixer, select the input that your microfreak is plugged in to and you should get audio. Sounds like you have midi mostly set up?
@@kikostreams5042 bro I have the same problem. I can’t get midi note data to be sent from my Yamaha modx into FL to use it as a VST like you did at 2:32 , yet I can use it as a midi controller and also get audio using an audio cable

@@darrenhirst9900 yes, I had to use the Yamaha modx driver, which kind of sucks, because I had to plug my headphones into the keyboard to hear the sound, but it worked that way and I can then bounce it into an mp3 and then play from my speakers

Cool patch. I remember you messing around with the FM amount thingie with your Nord a while ago, but I didn't realize you could get it this close to "real" FM. It almost sounds somewhere between ym2612 and dx21. The layer sounds great! Also, the inverted keyboard is kind of trippy :)
Yeah I realized the screen is inverted after I uploaded, I'm gonna keep it like that and pretend I have a custom nord lol
