Diesel engine powered RC-Plane tight and low goofing around with Tina P.
I love the MP-jet Classic 040 diesel engine. It starts and runs nicely even in winter. Watch my starting routine: I open up the compression about a quarter turn from running setting. Then I choke the venturi with my index finger and start until the engine fires. I remove my index finger from the venturi and keep starting. If it stops fireing I choke again. When the engine runs, I close the compression to the desired RPM and tighten the lever stopper. Caveat: The prop is extremly close to the comp lever. Take care of your knuckles and fingers and never use APC Props, because they are bent backwards and very sharp. Ask me how I know.
The engine fits perfectly for Tina P.
Plenty of power at low speed is perfect for those tight, close nearfield turns.

Nitro Plane Winter Fun with Cox Pee Wee 020
Переглядів 2648 місяців тому
Alone at the airfield today I took my small planes out for a nice sunset bliss. "Zwusch", my scratch built plane with Cox Pee wee always amazes me with the power and the nice speed the tiny engine is capable of. The flight in the video was the second one this day. I have many other planes, but "Zwusch" is my most flown plane I think. It is just uncomplicated and fun.
Graupner Terry Sunset Bliss Glow Engine HB-12
Переглядів 8502 роки тому
What a sunset flight! After some quirks at the begin my Terry is now very much dialled in and I enjoy it more with every flight. This is an original Terry from the 70ies, I got it as restauration project. The wing is in original condition, but I had to recover and repaint the fuse and the feathers. The horizontal stabiliser was broken and I made it new. I originally tried a HB-15 (Helmut Bernha...
My first control line flight, how much fun is this!
Переглядів 7693 роки тому
That this was the first time I made a control line flight in my life and at the same time the maiden of my plane built bare any practical control line experience. What can go wrong, haha? Find out in the video! I never did control flying before, but I was noticing how much fun the people have, so I grew curious. I built "Scorpion", a control line plane originally for Cox Tee Tee 049, and conver...
Vintage Cox 049 Graupner Topsy Sundowner
Переглядів 5483 роки тому
Just a short video of a nice evening flight with my Graupner Topsy two channel plane, powerd by a Vintage Cox 049 Babe Bee, and tamed down with an fixed exhaust throttle of a Cox car engine. It is a very well behaved plane and a joy to fly!
Graupner Kadett Retro Diesel ROG Bodenstart
Переглядів 1,1 тис.3 роки тому
I found out that the old Graupner Kadett designed by Karl-Heinz Denzin is extremely easy to ROG, the powerful 1.5ccm PAW Diesel engine is surely helping, haha. It is also very easy to land, thanks to the free flight heritage. That said, the Kadett is very well behaving under RC control, unlike may other converted free flyers, no tendency of dutch rolling or excessive climbing, although I build ...
Graupner Denzin Kadett remaiden after engine swap to PAW 09 with throttle
Переглядів 8663 роки тому
When I built this KH Denzin designed Graupner Kadett three years ago using the plan from Outerzone, I used a very original Taifun Hobby as power plant. However, it was very difficult to get a nice COG position with this engine, and I had to add much lead to the short nose. So I found a nice throttled PAW diesel in my drawer, and installed it instead. With the heavier engine and the throttle ser...
Dusk Patrol - Tina P. with Diesel Engine MP-Jet 040 Classic
Переглядів 8513 роки тому
After a very warm and sunny spring Sunday the evening was suddenly cold, windy and grey. But on the last flight of the day, the sun appeared again under the clouds and covered everything in a magic light. It was a very impressive experience. The plane is my construction and built entirely from balsa sheet. The engine is a czech MP-Jet 040 classic sideport diesel, a very well behaved and easy st...
Low 'n' Slow Graupner Topsy with throttled Cox Babe Bee 049
Переглядів 2,1 тис.3 роки тому
I like puttering around with Retro planes, and my opinion the Cox Babe Bee is too powerful for the Graupner Topsy. After my last successful flights with the 5x3 threeblade prop mounted backwards to burn surplus power, I now tried a Cox car throttle sleve, the one with the manual lever. The sleeve sits very stiff and doesn't move by itself, and it throttles the engine down to stable idle. I can ...
Cox Pee Wee 020 0,33ccm powered balsa plane having a bumpy ride and a helicopter landing :-)
Переглядів 12 тис.3 роки тому
Ok, the wind was really too gusty for my little sub 250g Pee Wee powered plane. I drew and built "Zwusch" three years ago, and had much fun with it since. The Cox Pee Wee is really nice, starts well and is well behaved. "Zwusch" is optimised for two channels RC flying, no free flight derivative. It likes to be flown fast, is highly maneuverable, handles wind and gusts quite well and is very rob...
Graupner Topsy with Cox Babe Bee 049 0,8ccm, big wind, small plane, much fun!
Переглядів 5 тис.3 роки тому
Despite of some wind I decided to remaiden my Graupner Topsy after conversion from electric to classic Cox glow power. This recorded flight was later in the day, after I made some experiments with propeller sizes. In my opinion the Babe Bee is too powerful for this plane, a Pee Wee would fit much better. The Topsy is originally built for free flight or one channel escapement, and with the power...
Fun with MP-Jet 040 Classic Diesel powered Plane "Tina P."!
Переглядів 4,8 тис.3 роки тому
After the maiden I made some adjustments: I increased the wing incidence, I ordered from MP-Jet a bigger fuel tank with whopping 3ml size, and tried a 8x4 prop. Not sure if a smaller prop like 8x3 would be perfect. Tina P. had no problems with the light gusts today. Kudos to the camera man, the video is great! I am very happy now with the setup and hope to have much fun with it in the flying se...
"Tina P." all sheet balsa plane MP-Jet 040 Classic Diesel maiden flight
Переглядів 1,1 тис.3 роки тому
Fifth flight on maiden day of "Tina P." 20.02.2021 All sheet balsa construction MP-Jet 040 Classic Diesel Very happy with the flight characteristics, I have to increase wing incidence a little bit, but this is no big problem. MP-Jet 040 is perfect engine for this plane, prop is 7x4 APC, once the settings are dialed in, statting is a matter of three choked and three open flicks. I let it run und...
Fun with tiniest Cox 010 TD nitro engine on vintage Graupner Sonny glider
Переглядів 248 тис.3 роки тому
Tiny engine, big fun. Cox Tee Dee 010 in power pod on Graupner Sonny glider converted to 2 channel RC. Glider pod hollowed out to take servos, receiver, pull-up regulator and lipo. Nice evening flight before the rain came in. Tried to keep the plane in close proximity of the camera, fortunately had the perfect camera man, who did his best to keep the tiny, fast plane in focus, thank you very mu...

Dear fans of old model engines! I want to show you my E.D. Competition Special, which I rebuilt from two incomplete examples. This engine is from 1948. I will try to post a steady flow of engine videos in the future, the second video is currently in making. So please have fun, and I would appreciate all comments and further infos, if you want to share them.

Mine has a sprung loaded device on top of the fuel tank which will stop the engine if you pull it. Check out Brian Cox's video of the ED Competition Special. What size prop were you using?

Great video. I also have a couple of these engines that run great (one flying at the moment in a Ranger 30). You seem to be getting almost twice the run time that I achieve, what's your secret? I get about a minute and a half, which gives me 4-5 circuits around the patch. Still a lot of fun, I rarely fly my electric models these days.

One question: Wasn't the smallest engine from Cox the engine for the Mini-Piper? It was hell to get that thing running and made more noise than it made power.

*During the 1970's the .010 was so cheap I just put them in the garbage-can and ordered 10 new ones by mail order - $96.00 for a 10 pack as a Cox dealer (My dead helped me get that dealership via his hardware store). I must have trashed over 300 of those .010's in my 7 years of flying,,, before I discovered GIRLS! Now I HOARD everything and tell my kids to HOARD stuff too.*
