A botnet is a network (a big collection) of machines (phones, laptops, smart fridges, etc.) which are infected with malware which gives the creator full control of the devices. They are usually used to perform DDOS attacks which basically just spam a website with all the infected devices until the website can't take it anymore and crumbles under the intense load. The program in the video seems to scan IPs for botnet characteristics.

​@@bbonesThere is exploits in the software that the fridges run on. If that be an OS level exploit in Linux or a Java vulnerability, whatever the case may be. It could be used to run unsigned code on the fridge to contribute to the botnet. Fridges are less likely since they wouldn't have any ports exposed and would be behind NAT, but it is technically possible.

I read the bio of this page and I’m not 100% sure but I think it’s showing how many individual ip’s are pinging this machine to check for a specific open port which hackers can use to exploit and infect other machines to scan more ips for the same ports to keep infecting more devices
