Bart was a good neighbor- I miss not having him around
It's a beauty.
Great seeing Gary recite midget history and some of the stories I had heard from none other than Gary's dad, Gordon, over 40 years ago! I knew the Schroeders pretty well. Allen, myself, Eric Anderson, Mike Stein and Jon Peters would race around their property on our mini enduros and xr75's! Went to more than a couple of the BBQ's (I believe it was actually a yearly Gilmore or some kind of 'midget' racer get together) at their home in the Hollywood Hills. Gary's room above the garage which also had a GT40 (yes, a real one) always intrigued me as it had a spiral stair case which wound 'down' into the garage. Real neat! Attended Hollywood High school (as did Gary and his brother Allen). Used to talk to Carmen a LOT when I'd show up to speak to Allen and he wasn't there. The Schroeder family were genuinely 'nice' people. Gordon was never short on time when I 'talked cars', nor was Carmen for that matter. Thanks for this
The license plate had me for a second, not going to lie

Thank you for watching my videos Roland L. Enz
Are these the actual cars used in the movie?
No. These are not. The owner of these cars built them as replicas. They are shown all across the country at car events. I am behind on all of my videos right now. I hope to have the complete week of Modesto's Graffiti 2022 weeks events put together. In the video there is an interview with Candy Clark from American Graffiti. Modesto is the home of George Lucas and the weeks events brings thousands of cars each year. Thank you for looking at my video. Notables from Modesto that I have on my channel are Gene Winfield, Allen Grant and Jack McCoy. Roland L. Enz
@@enzusatv3678 Thanks. Hope to see the museum if I ever get down there! Gaad I absolutely revere American Graffiti! Arguably my favorite movie of all time!
awesome thank you for sharing
You guys need the cop car with the rear end yanked out of it !!! Lol
We were still cruising McHenry in late 80’s and early 90’s, then going out and racing on California street afterwards. Miss those days, felt like I was free.

An absolutely outstanding video. Thanks SO much for this.
Tonto: Thank you for watching my video. Please take the time to look at my other videos. My Doan Spencer (Hollywood Sport Cars) video had to do with racing during the 60s and 70s. Other videos, Gordon Schroder and Quin Epperly are also interesting during that time period. Roland L. Enz
Greatly appreciate more truths on the history...Hollywood bs aside....always had an understanding of the racing concept but more American auto...nevertheless....
Thank you for watching my videos. If you have an interest n racing in the 60s, check out my videos on Doan Spencer (Hollywood Sport Cars) and Gordon Schroeder.
Arizona needs to partner with its neighboring states of CA,NV,NM,TX,CO,UT in developing a Los Angeles-Palm Springs-Yuma-Phoenix-Tucson-El Paso corridor as I-10 not only in the Los Angeles metro area is congested to the max, but also in the Phoenix Metro areA and between Phoenix & Tucson needs to be widened as it is busy. High speed rail and passenger train service is needed.
Great video of the California High Speed Rail line. Very impressive, investment in high speed rail makes sense, provides jobs, gives people a travel choice. With the very high price of gas high speed rail will only be very beneficial in the long run. I travel by Amtrak when I’m home in the San Diego area from San Diego to Los Angeles & Oxnard alternating my visits between Los Angeles & Oxnard, CA when I travel on the Pacific Surfliner. I also travel long distance by Amtrak as flying domestically is a hassle & a drudgery.
Just a great story to hear and thanks for posting. fills in a lot of the blanks and a good video to refer to all the so called experts who read about these days from books, Like myself, LO

thank you Allen for the truth about Ken Miles, Hollywood can't tell the truth about anything, the true story would have been just as exciting without the lies and disrespect to real men who were true heros.

The movie " Ferrari vs Ford" was a big disappointment to those that know.
Thank you for watching my Channel. Like all movies it is loosely based on history. Were you involved in any way during that period of racing? Please take the time to look at my videos on Doane Spencer and Gordon Schroeder. Doane took over the Sunbeam project from Shelby, creating the famed Hollywood Sport Cars Sunbeam Tiger. If you had an involvement let me know.
Is he talking about George Lucas the filmmaker?
Thank you for watching my Channel. George Lucas is the film maker, that did American Graffiti. George grew up in Modesto and attended Modesto Jr. College. Please check out my Videos on Modesto's American Graffiti Week and Car Shows.
Thank you for this video. Allen Grant, Carrol Shelby, Ken Miles, Phil Remington, Carrol Smith, Peter Brock, Jim Clark, and many others of that era, were among my hero's as I grew from pre-teen to young adult. They still influence my life today. No head-banging music, no over the top graphics, no fake drama, just a great, factual video.

Its crazy all the greats were together. Too bad about Richie. He didn’t have a great life. The rest of them seemed to do well in life.
Thank you for watching my channel. You will enjoy my video on Doane Spencer. Same period of time and they all raced together.
My dad was Gene Simms y'all probably knew each other. I knew Louie, awesome trip back in time, thanks
Thank you for watching my channel. Please look at my video on Doane Spencer. They all raced at the same time.
Allen's thought's on "Ford vs Ferrari" are exactly what I thought about the movie while watching it the first time and wishing it had been more historically accurate instead of a made for Hollywood movie . It is also great to hear about Allen's early days growing up and his stories that a lot of us can relate to, from lowering your first car just because it looks cool to doing something new to your car and then driving past a shopping area with a lot of big windows just too see yourself..... been there done that.I really like what he say's about Phil Remington as I am sure everyone that knew Rem appreciates those words .
Thank you for watching and commenting on my Video. Please take the time to look at my videos on Doane Spencer, Hollywood Sports Car SumBeam Tiger and Gordon Schroeder. Roland L. Enz
I remember seeing the race results from the early Cobra days and eventually knowing who Ken Miles and Bob Bondurant we're and of course recognizing Fan Gurney, but Allen Grant was always a mystery but obviously as equally accomplished as the others. Thank you for the great interview with this man.
Thank you for watching and commenting on my UA-cam Channel. Please look at my Video on Doane Spencer. Doane, amongst many of the cars that he built, built the Hollywood Sports Car SunBeam Tiger. Also you might be interested in the Gordon Schroeder Video. Roland L. Enz

Thank you for watching my channel. Please look at both the Doane Spencer and Gordon Schroeder videos.
A few years back, I attended a Cobra meet at Allen Grants race shop in Port Angeles, Washington and met Allen and Peter Brock as well who had a short talk about old times and the making of the Daytona. Lots of Cobras and few coupes, one from Superformance that Peter also had a hand in designing. A couple years later at Portland international raceway during a vintage race there Allen was racing his yellow Cobra ( a different one than the one he raced in the 1960's but painted the same) and he bent it slightly during the race.Allen said this was the first time he ever bent his Cobra. His original yellow Cobra he campaigned in the day turned out to have the winningest history and he sold it for something past 2 million. Allen also had a 1963 Lola GT (silver and seen on Jay Leno's place ) he was restoring there near completion. Fun times !!!!
Thank you for watching my channel. Please look at the Doane Spencer Video. Doane created the famous iconic Hollywood Sports Car SunBeam Tiger, which they took over from Shelby.
Wow,. only a very few Lola GT were ever made and I bet less 5han 10 survived.
When I took my wife and two daughters to see Ford v Ferrari they absolutely loved the movie and literally were in tears at the end. Knowing that movie drama was added captured 19 and 24 year old young ladies to love auto racing and the excitement it provides. Thank you to all these great gentlemen who brought the fantastic and exciting memories!!
Thank you for watching my channel. Please look at the Doane Spencer Video. Doan created the famous iconic Hollywood Sports Car SunBeam Tiger, which they took over from Shelby.
Why is there an engine idling during the whole interview?????????????
Thank you for watching my channel. Allen's shop is located in the desert east of Palm Springs. What you are hearing is air conditioning resonating through out the commercial complex. It was well over 100 degrees when I shot this. If you are interested in the Carroll Shelby era, please look at my video on Doane Spencer.
@@enzusatv3678 Thanks for documenting these racing legends.
@@enzusatv3678 the Spencer 32 highboy one great “race” cars,of any kind, of all time! So iconic! So Americana!
What a great story. I don't remember hearing of Alan Grant before but maybe I just never paid much attention... what a shame. And how many people think of Lucas as a crew chief? The book: Go Like Hell, gives a more accurate story of Ford vs Ferrari than the movie but the imaginary scene of H.F.2 being driven by Shelby (who didn't drive Ford) is worth the price of admission
Thank you for watching my Channel and Commenting. Please take the time to view my video on Doane Spencer, who created the Hollywood Sport Car Sunbeam Tiger.
More accurate is an understatement. THE TRUTH is more like it. Personally they missed the boat on that movie as the story in the book would have been far more compelling as a docu-drama than what was made.
shows like this do NOT represent what real car enthusiasts of "the age" were really like, instead they represent what the Hollywood Scene (movie pictures) did TO the idea via phony "older people" concepts based upon their own ideas of what "would be" cool were they to have "their way" ... ie, all kinds of gaudy accessories added on, like little (and large) "chrome accessories", hubcaps, horns, do-dads, just extra trim added wherever it could be tacked on, the more the better (as far as they were concerned) ... while the true enthusiasts, the real people that were actually involved rather than the wannabees hangers-on types, were more "minimalist", strip it down to bare necessities, less was better (and truer for people that sought "performance" rather than glitz and glitter) ... the real versus the hollywood picture ... the latter reminds me of the silly "beach-party" scenarios and other cookie-cutter contrivances that never ever really happened in the day, but seemed "the norm "afterward" by the johnny and betty "come latelies" that NEVER lived it except thorough their "imaginations" provided by the movies ... fake and phony BS! IMnsHO and E so far.
Jerry Thank you for viewing and commenting on my videos. American Graffiti was a vision of George Lucas and which the Graffiti movement grew out of. I cruised the streets of Modesto and went to MJC at that same time. The Modesto Graffiti Museum was created by many of those that came out of that time. They are trying to preserve those times, that Gene Winfield (see my video) George and Sam Barris, Dean Jefferies and Von Dutch created with customs. Vic Edelbrock, Barney Navarro, Ed Iskenderian to name only a few that created performance equipment dating back to the end of World II. The Oakland Roaster Show Hi-lited the Hot Rod movement starting in 1964. The ultimate Hot Rod, started prior to World II, and today is still one of the worlds iconic cars. The Doane Spencer Roaster, now in Bruce Meyers Collection. The Black and Mexican Communities had their own take at that time. It is all subjective. The Modesto American Graffiti Museum is building its base on that time and place in this unique American Movement.
Thanks for doing this! This train is very important to my family as we are spread from Tulare to Orange County. Please keep up the good work!

I was probably at the same event. Absolutely a fine man who stayed well after the end of the event and into darkness to sign autographs and talk with his fans. I have his signature on the strut brace of my GT350 along with Ken Miles son Peter, also a very nice guy.

I’m 80 and I am very familiar whit that period. Watched a drag race at Bridghampton (NY) between Shelby in a “automatic” Cobra and Miles in a manual Cobra, the boss won. I agree Hollywood always adds their BS to their products.
I am 83, its our generation. Thank you for watching my UA-cam Channel. Take a look at the Doane Spencer Video. The Hollywood Sport Cars - Sun Beam Tiger was one of the most iconic production cars built for SCCA Racing in that period. Roland L. Enz

This is a huge project and is needed to allow us to live far from where we work. I grew up in Merced in the late 60's and early 70's. California is leading the way (again). We will be able to meet and talk face-to-face. Meetings that are vital for businesses and essential for higher academics.

This will probably never be finished, cost overruns and bad planning will prevent it. If it was economically viable it would be done by private industry.
Much like the Interstate Highway system. Oh, wait ...
Knowing his ‘32 roadster, of course, it was just very recently that I discovered Doane Spencer also built a T-Bird. 😮 I really like the more masculine touch he added to the car, so now I’m seriously considering building a Spencer-inspired early bird. Thanks for the inspiring and insightful interviews and close-up shots of the car.
Stevie - I thought that I replied to your comment, if not, I apologize. Thank you! If you have an interest in the original T-Bird. the car is owned by Gary Schroeder. You can see Gary talking about his father Gordon Schroeder on my video "Gordon Schroeder". Both T-birds are shown on the video.
