Lovely sounding neglected peal of 8 cast by Mears and steinbank of Whitechapel in 1962 hung in a two tier wooden frame with bells three and four on top. Unfortunately the bells don’t get rung often at all this with substantial frame movement and the poor state of the bells doesn’t make the bells easy to ring with the bells dropping or crashing towards stay the ropes are all different lengths an...

This tower holds a fabulous sounding ring of eight mainly cast by miles l graye in 1634 except from the treble the second and the fifth which were cast by Thomas newman in 1737 the bells themselves go alright could do with some TLC but the sound that they make when there rung is amazing the tenor weighs 15‐2‐23 sounding the note E. Enjoy
the bells are really beautiful to listen to
The tenor sounds like the 7 at one of the towers I ring at as it’s tuned to the note F the same as this one
You mean Ab
@@PlainBobMinor16 no i did mean F but this tenor is in F# but probably a very low pitched F# that sounds like F
very amazing bells! can you do a video raising the whole peal one day ?
you should do salle and kings lynn st margaret
such a shame that these dont get rung regularly and also that they are neglected, they sound good tho
They sound lovely. It sounds like you met and overcame the challenge that these presented! Great video
I certainly did you just have to use the right technique for these bells otherwise they just do their own thing.🤣
@@jaydenstebbings5453 I wasn't such as skilled ringer in this video.... when the tenor rang me!! ua-cam.com/video/79jjczmPFv4/v-deo.html
awesome video! wow
another great video! wow
wow this is awesome! well done
Always like a good video of Swaffham! Must go back there soon - I enjoyed my quarter there!
I agree lovely bells the only problem I find is the stretchy ropes particularly the tenor.
When we rang there the ropes were incredibly stretchy. We originally planned to ring a quarter of Major but in the end we settled for Plain Bob Triples because the ropes certainly weren't behaving very well! 🤣
@@jaydenstebbings5453 trebles and 5th are thomas newman they rest miles I graye frame cast by john taylor
They are a rather good ring, just such a shame they aren't rung more often!
Great recording. The bells sound lovely.
oh yes they sound even nicer in person.
@@jaydenstebbings5453 I bet. I come from Yarmouth and have only driven through Swaffham on the A47!
@@jaydenstebbings5453 bells are cast by thomas newman and miles I graye in 1737 and 1634
Look like a long draft too
@@tdodd191 At least they have a rope guide, unlike Chertsey! The ropes go every where.
Ringing for a wedding always gives me goosebumps. Especially during the pull off when the organ is playing its last piece as the bride and groom walk out.
They sound like Eckington in Derbyshire.
They do yes
@@jaydenstebbings5453 treble 2nd and 5th are thomas newman in 1737 the rest are miles I graye in 1634 tenor 15-2-23cwts
Are you Jayden I met at MRDC?
I come from Norfolk but the only two Norfolk churches I’ve rung at are Yarmouth (where I learnt) and Gorleston. There are lots of great Norfolk bells!
Yes there are I usually ring at dereham on a Monday night and they are a nice ring of eight but unfortunately swaffham only get rung occasionally and often people come and are put off by the long rope draft but they are actually lovely bells to ring and it would be lovely to mabey ring with you one day. :)
@@jaydenstebbings5453 I haven’t been to Dereham for years! I didn’t know they had bells. Chertsey has a very long draft and no rope guide which doesn’t make ringing easy. I lived in Norwich for over two years and never rang at all. My ringing teacher really knocked my confidence so I didn’t ring for a long time after leaving Norfolk. I went on my first ringing outing last week 😊 It would be great to come up to Norfolk and ring with you!
@@ringerpaul3118 Yes that would be great swaffham are trying to have a once a month practice but it's a bit hit and miss because one week there's eight ringers and another theres only about three but dereham have a nice 22 cat eight and practice every Monday so when ever your in Norfolk just tell me and I can meet you up there one night
Great! I go to our practice every Thursday night at Weybridge. If I can’t be there, I let the tower captain know, which he appreciates. Some weeks there’s ten ringers for eight bells. This week there were six (half term?). I also try to be there every Sunday too. We had seven today.
@@ringerpaul3118 that's great that you get that many ringers at dereham it's a bit hit or miss because we either get eight one week and four the next.
Really awesome so young for a ringer
Thanks
