The Haunting Allure of Luigi's Mansion
Happy Halloween! Luigi's Mansion is a game that I always had a weird fascination with for nearly two decades, despite only finishing it for the first time just a few years ago. There's always been something mysterious and "off" about it, ranging from its strange premise and presentation to its status as a rarely discussed cult classic... well, rarely discussed for a Mario game, anyway.
In this video, I take a deep dive into Luigi's Mansion to see what makes it so strangely alluring, and how it keeps me coming back to it year after year!

How Hollow Knight Masters Mystery
Переглядів 26 тис.2 місяці тому
Hollow Knight is one of the most popular and beloved indie games ever made, and for good reason! Even as someone with little patience for trying and learning new games, this one managed to hook me and became one of my all-time favorites back when I first played it 7 years ago. It's commonly believed that Hollow Knight has a massive, cryptic, and unforgiving world to explore, so how did I manage...
Metroid's Underrated Masterpiece

Happy April Fools! We're taking things in a different direction today by looking at Samus Goes to the Fridge to Get a Glass of Milk, one of the most famous Rom Hacks of Metroid Fusion. It's often seen as just a silly meme or joke within the Metroid community, but I wanted to give it the thorough analysis that I felt it deserved, and see just what exactly this overlooked gem has to offer for all...
Another AM2R Retrospective

I'm back, and with a video too! The early 2010s were pretty dire for Metroid fans, with the previous game in the series being seen as a major letdown by the most diehard among them. With no indication if Nintendo had any interest in taking the series back to its roots in the next installment (let alone if there would even BE a next installment), the fans took it upon themselves to create the ne...

Let's take a look at just about everything De...

The levels of genius in this game are amazing. Still being played 30 years later, because of all the forethought and great design. Sequence breaks, the story, music, sound effects, all combine to create a game that is as good the 100time you play it as well as the first.
Ive played all the 2d metroids and i think super and dread are the best.
11:00 right, Its just a coincidence that a third game took place in a hotel and the fact that Luigi has a ghost helping him. Also Bogmire's my favorite boss in the game just due to how he's a literal manifestation of the Mansion's fear and despair and how his fight can be difficult to get gold on if with all the shadows coming after you.
i do think bogmire's lore is interesting, i just wish they could have somehow incorporated it into the game itself instead of just being supplemental backstory. no idea how they could do that, but without that knowledge he just comes off as kind of a "generic shadow monster" that appears out of nowhere
Loved the video and your delivery/sense of humor
The map and mansion design is really iconic, although the mansion has windows on the exterior but can’t find any of them in the inside of the mansion
Dude trust me, 26 IS young 😂
I didn't find Chauncey to be scary or creepy
Moss Prophet Dung Defender Hive Knight Are my top 3 characters. But I mean I dont dislike a single character. I honestly wish I had known about this game and supported it on kickstarter before it was already out and fully dlcd. I'd love to have a character ghost in it
Hollow Knight is my favorite metroidvania and it's also the only one I ever fully finished. Its top 10 indie games I've ever played and it took over my creative brain for over 3 years. Writing and drawing stories in the world of Hollownest
Personally for me. The more elemental and special effect stuff in games the better. Borderlands having Radiation, Acid, Fire, Ice, and even Electricity is awesome. Fallout has lots too but my favorite is poison, radiation, and plasma. :)
Luigis Mansion was and is in my top 20 gamecube games and Luigis Mansion 3 is in my top favorite Switch games
Ahem ahem I CAN'T SEE MY BOO-TIFUL WIFE!!
I sub just to be safe from king boo horror
Are you by chance a Jimothy cool fan?
every muk has its monday
I will not stand for Bogmire slander in this house 😤
My head canon for why king boo always looks different is because there are actually multiple different king boos and each one presides over their own portion of Mario hell. Like they’re supposed to be the Mario variant of hell’s demon princes.. but I’m pretty sure that only translated to my brain
i hella relate to your first impression of the game. as a kid the mystery of it made me too scared to explore it (I was already scared to play 64 by myself due to bowser's laugh and the emptiness of it, so LM was like that turned to 100) . its hilarious how short of a game it is but it took me years to finish as a kid. but even as a like a 5 year old who couldnt graps, it still left a deep impression to where i love the game dearly. i can watch speedruns an lets play back to back to back
How many boos did you say you sucked?
i'm sucking every last boo in that house and nobody is going to stop me
@basedsamtv hahaha you'll make a great addition to the mansion
Watching this video is like watching someone reading my thoughts about luigis mansion literally my first score was 97,000,000 and your high score is mine. Also i hate 3ds ver. For same reasons, i play for same reasons, and i like the original for simmilar reasons. I guess everybody likes it for very simmilar reasons.
I played 2 before 1 (recently finished) on 3DS. I prefer the controls on 2. 1:45 Yes! 3:10 Forever 35! 4:55 😆. 6:15 🤣. 6:45 Still don't understand the use of calling Mario. 9:25 I like that. 11:35 Yes! 11:55 💝. 12:45 😭. The fitness guy puzzle is the most difficult. 13:55 Yes. 15:10 Short, yes. Content, not really. 24:25 Yes😭. 24:45 It's hard to catch it in real life. 26:20 Yes, same as Disney Theme Park. 27:45 Hardest one ever, I didn't know that we can use the vacuum to hit him. 30:30 Mine's D. 33:45 No. 36:20 Yes. 36:35 The mouse is hard.
I love the first Luigi's Mansion. The newer ones never quite had the same atmosphere as the original, and the portrait ghosts remain unmatched for me
The note about capturing ghosts; Every standard ghost type has a sort of "pull strength" value. Additionally, the Portrait Ghosts, including to some degree the Boss Ghosts each have an individual value. For instance, the Gold Ghost and Speedy Spirit have a "low" pull strength. The Purple Puncher has a "med-low" strength. The Blue Twirler has a "strong" pull strength. Most Portrait ghosts have pull strengths that range from "Medium" to "Strong", with one notable exception being Madame Clairvoya, who, uniquely, has the lowest pull strength of all the ghosts in the game. The pull strength value determines how fast the ghost moves, how hard it pulls against Luigi and in most cases, how violently the ghost changes direction. Stronger ghosts tend to require more use from the C-Stick. I learned from the 3DS version that the C-Stick can influence Luigi's pulling ability by yanking it. It's not necessary, I got all gold frames as a kid without even knowing about it, but it _can_ help. I still don't fully understand its mechanisms though, so perhaps it's placebo. The ghosts will break free if they're allowed to build up enough strength to do so. Their strength builds as long as they aren't being pulled, and drains when being pulled. Though they will also break free if they manage to catch an object between Luigi and themselves, or if Luigi has simply held onto them for too long, regardless of how much strength they've built up. Hope this helps anyone reading it <3
Also just want to add on that you are the first person I've ever seen dunk on Bogmire. Most people seem unanimous in that he's one of the more unnerving parts of the game.
Bring back Luigi’s insightful commentary on the objects in the mansion next game, that was peak
"I'm quite taken with this" "Ick it's full of moth holes" "Weird"
@@Jigen0 My favorite is "It's a picture, but I wouldn't call it art." A close second is "This would never pass the white-glove test..."
If you haven't already, try to play the PAL version, it has some changes which are for the better IMO
yeah I wanted to bring it up at some point, but I don't think I would've gotten the video out in time if I did. it's a cool version of the game but not super relevant to my personal experience playing it, so it wasn't a top priority.
@@basedsamtvI can agree with that, plus I have the 3ds version which adds the unused pal features, well most of them
This is how I found out the Nub for the 3DS XL is usable and not just a thumb rest.
Nice vid. The run button is necessary however, it’s basically there to give more dynamics for puzzles, also allows you to activate an ability down the track.
1) Luigi’s Mansion the series is great but I think 1 is my favorite. 2) the pun slander is unacceptable 3) gonna do a shot every time you say “suck” in this video
are you guys going trick or treating?
24:00 skill issue lol
This made my halloween 👻💕
I’ve been replaying it for Halloween, Im right at the final boss and and I see this lol
Wow, i was literally playing through this for the hundredth for Halloween. Also Mario has been far from boring as of recently and I don't think odyssey was boring either, wonder was great and Mario RPGs getting revived left and right, Mario is turning back around.
they've definitely been taking more risks since the early-mid 2010s, which I appreciate! I haven't played it yet, but princess peach showtime is another creative mario game that stood out to me this year.
@@basedsamtvoh I will add that I like the 3ds version especially because the hidden mansion is better but I definitely play the original more, I'm just happy with every game in the series so far. Now I cant wait for Luigi's mansion 4 in 2035
2 BASED SAM VIDEOS IN ONE YEAR LETS GO GAMERS!!!!!!!!!!
*3
Zero Mission is the cartoonish, fluffy duffy version of a dark, atmospheric and eerie sci-fi videogame classic. I personally prefer the original Metroid for all these reasons. My only problem with the NES Metroid is the idiotic necessity for energy harvesting every time you lose and/or restart the game. But there's ways to play it using save states since many years ago, thanks to emulation. Not a big fan of GB Advance Metroid games, but to each his own, so, I'm glad they exist.
great video
Closest thing to the perfect game imo
The original Aliens game
Hey dude I have watched so many Hollow knight videos but this one is one of my favorites. Your commentary is great and really helped me feel your experience as you played.
This game has the best and most responsive gameplay of the original Metroid trilogy. Yes, Super included.
Before I'm watching the video, why Nintendon't? They literally released their own remake after AM2R. You could argue that AM2R brought a lot more but in the same way SR also made good changes and was also very important lorewise Especially regarding Ridley and the connection to the Prime sub-series.
Zero mission is an excellent remake however I do think it isn’t as good a remake as the dead space remake is.
I adored this game and I've beaten it multiple times. I was so proud when I did the 100% speedrun achievement on my second run, in steel soul too. Finishing Radiance with just one HP, fingers tickling and with more adrenaline than blood in my veins. With that said, I'm never going to do Pantheon 5. It's forever going to be the only achievement I don't have, mocking me every time I hear or see anything related to this game. I genuinely dislike this challenge with a passion. Like you said, it's just 30 minutes of busywork only to be demolished by Sly because you haven't had a chance to get acquainted with winged Nosk yet, so you lost a few masks on that fight. Even if I ever make it past that little turd, I know I won't be able to do NKG and PV ever again in a marathon setting, let alone absrad. It's insane, ridiculous, unfair and a super unnecessary blemish on an otherwise near perfect game. I really don't feel like the bosses in this game were designed with the idea of beating them all in one sitting. But endless congratulations, respect and honour to you for getting through it, man. You're a legend.
Hallownest was called the last civilization cuz the king thought his kingdom will never fall
true! that's a nicer way of saying the pale king was talking out of his ass haha
Silksong is The Winds of Winter of gaming.
I just want to thank you for the idea of thinking about the confrontation with Mother Brain as an interactive cut-scene; it seems obvious in retrospect but I, personally, never would've seen it without you. I'm one of those mutants who are incapable of even noticing atmosphere in an artistic sense, so since, as you note, it's not really a fight, it was my one real gripe with the game. Now, thanks to you, I can see the Ridley fight as the final boss and that fixes everything that matters. So, again, thank you!
I say its absolutely worth having every boss be in the pantheon, why call it the pantheon of hollowNEST if it doesnt have the whole shebang (Even though markoth exists... Besides it is a tertiary ending... Also boo the shame! how dare ya call it a blemish! Still great review.
Super metroid is one of my favorite games. The top 2 easy! So replayable almost perfect. I wish there was more honestly two more places to go to would have been geeat!!! Just want more content
