VTOL transition to forward flight.
Transitions going well. Tried manual mode. Very twitchy but probably me out of practice.

Jitters bad when using SBus. Better with PWM but that horizon tilt all the time makes this useless. Yes its calibrated. Should have got the Caddx one.

First flight of my printed VTOL Qplane with Arduplane FW. H743 wing FC. Not tuned but quite steady in a moderate breeze. Wings still to be finished. AM32 4in1 ESC. Tilt servo was dead next power up.
HEQ- Gport gimbal. Back to non FPV firmware
Переглядів 724 місяці тому
The previous video was using the FPV firmware. The jumps/jitters were huge and violent. Went back to non FPV firmware for this vid. Starts off with a bad loss of level, then back to the less severe (but unacceptable ) jitters. It seems to be ok if the pitch is level. Im wondering if its a hardware problem with the gimbal. (the pitch changes in the first few seconds are me. )
HEQ gport Gimbal Jumping. FPV firmware.
Переглядів 1044 місяці тому
Just updated the firmware to VER-1000019 (file FPVmode-Firmware-APP_V1.0.0.25_20240509). As you see, there is terrible jumping around. To prove its not my RC TX outputting bad signals I set ardupilot to output fixed PWM on yaw and pitch. Notice that sometimes 2 axis jump together, not just pitch. Not shown in this clip but there was bad horizon drift. FPV mode works as it should and locks the g...
First test of HEQ gport gimbal on plane.

Gimbal is installed on a retractable mount. Im using sbus to control yaw and pitch. There is some jittering in the gimbal axis, particularly when its not facing straight forward. Also as you see, it seems to loose which way is up and the horizon has a considerable tilt. HEQ support are very responsive and suggest the jittering is interference in the lines. (EDIT The twitching could be originati...
HEQ gport gimbal twitch when using sbus
Переглядів 774 місяці тому
Gimbal often twitches at all pitch angles but is much worse at about 45deg down. It does not do this twitch when using PWM. It also has quite a bit of roll drift. (Horizon not level).
HEQ gport gimbal sbus home not working

Really like the hardware of this gimbal. Just needs a few tweaks of the firmware and it will be great. Note that the FPV version of the firmware locks at least one axis. It can’t be selected from RC (currently).

Looks amazing, anywhere that I can learn more about the design of the VTOL?
Very cool design. Pardon my ignorance, and I'm sure you have, but did you consider mounting the rear engine just past the tail so it too can swivel and contribute to forward thrust in horizontal flight?
There is no real need for extra thrust. The front 2 at full power will give a speed around 70mph, and moving the motor right to the back and adding a tilt servo will completely change the balance and the design.
Skynet.😂😂😂
wow sick bro! thats some slick design!!
Woah nice, whats the name?
Nice
I'm curious to understand what the maximum range would be for Herelink in round-to-round communication.
Hello :) I like this design a lot, is there any writeup on it? Esp. how you attached the motors and wheels, any help much appreciated.
Hi. I dont really have a build blog but perhaps these pics help. The first pivot system was too weak and bent so see the version with big pivot bearings and large shaft. www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/8ih3qyauykcog8yye5wui/AG_sQBunUHkXCD4lgSt0o6w?rlkey=7pcwscbh5ybn8lszzpwi93r0i&st=f8gszcfv&dl=0
hi have you find a solution to the home switch?| thanks
hi could share - the ardupilot sbus out paramaters? 10x
except - rcpassthru thanks
hi any suggestions - what are the ardupilot parameters to connect via sbus to pixhawk?
looking great!!!
Do you have a blog or more on its design? How long can they run and what type of motors are those
Not really a blog but - facebook.com/share/p/RQCcrPMdy3n2YDhC/?mibextid=WC7FNe Motors- Tmotor MT4008 600kv
Nice to see a VTOL in action that doesn't struggle with wind. Looks very sleek too.
Thanks, Im not sure it will be so good once all the wing is on. 1.8 mts span.
Great work! Would you be willing to share the files so I could 3D print this and test it on a fixed wing?
Hello, what is your frame ? please
I don't have any jitter on the pitch normally but the Yaw goes nuts when locking it with the new firmware. That's using an RC truck though. I think the jitter still comes through sometimes without locking it but just not as much. The only time I actually saw my pitch jitter was when I transmitted to a baofeng radio I put on the truck. While you may not be putting out bad signals, it's apparently not very noise immune since just the amp on the baofeng doing receiving is wigging mine out.
Mine does the same... did you find any solution?, i also try by pwm and its the same
Didnt have time to work on it for a while. Someone said the 'new' firmware is better. Im not sure which one he meant. The only new one I see (from yesterday) is for mavlink. I would like to use that but there is no information how to set it up. ie which gimbal to select in Mission Planner etc.
@@vincehogg8935 that firmware that includes mavlink may work better but I can see that for using with ardupilot you need to compile it, since the include the source code for driving the the gimbal by mavlink commands
Tested today with the FPV firmware. Very bad gimbal jumping. See my vid loaded today. Im wondering if I have a faulty gimbal. I tried pulling off my sbus wire and the gimbal just stays at its last setting. It dosent jump around.
All my tests have been in angle mode. I tried speed mode on sbus and it behaves like the 'home' is randomly applied. I then tried speed mode with PWM connections and it seems fine (with FPV firmware 000019). So only one way working. PWM speed mode.
Cool!
Did you try to offset the pwm signal?, i mean... trying diferent pwm values? i guess the pw pass from free to home lock and then free again...
Pretty cool, used similar motors myself.
muy bueno algo asi es lo que necesito
Nice! I get your thinking. HEQ should consider designing a gimbal which is better suited for upward mounting, or extend the negative pitch
Are you just having issues on the bench when plugged in on USB? There have been some reports of issues with the Matek USB board (the external board). I get an intermittent issue with my crossfire where it suddenly locks up on the bench. Absolutely fine in flight though.
Great Vince!!!
Jist make sure that in the event of RX failsafe it is set to retract before the Autoland.
Yes exactly. I thought I found the setting to make sure that happened but now have lost it.
Hey!!! you made it! i'm following your ptoject on Ardupilot Forum!, how much does it weight? only the retract sys?
I think it’s about the same weight as the gimbal, 70g. I think there may be a better (lighter) servo option, slow but high torque. Guess I need to buy the gimbal now.
@@vincehogg8935 Looks really functional, i'm about to buy the gimbal too.... could you share your files?
@@sergiooropeza5602 Ok I’ll put them on grabcad tomorrow probably.
@@vincehogg8935 Great! Thks!!!
put soft-ish springs underneath the carrier, on the rails
My issues are intermittent - my last two flights - absolutely nothing happened. So grateful this all started happening while operating something capable of landing itself.
that is an awesome build . I am starting to do some robotic builds myself . I am retired and learning a lot of new things . keeping my brain active and having fun . thank you for sharing look forward to seeing more of your projects .
What are the advantages of such horizontal suspension?
None. Thats why I changed it.

I like the chassis.
That thing's awesome!
Wonderfull work. 🙌🙌🙌

Vince - great job on this! I've been an an advocate of "Split Part shell" for about 15 years. For what it is worth, you did not need to make a surface - you could just use Sketch 3 for the split. It's just a minor tweak, the general approach is solid. I use it all the time
Great solution! Thanks for sharing.
Max power of 1kw meaning it has 250watt motor x 4?
I design 3D Printed UAVs and had the same issue around the edges. thank you very much!
What keeps the pellets from dropping out? An elastic band? O-ring? Does it work with slugs? Nice design though! Thanks for sharing. Cheers!
nice!
Are you going to try selling this
Hi Vince, were you able to 3d print the aircraft? I am finding that Cura cannot print parts with shell and solid features. A part has to be either a solid extrusion or a shell, cannot be both.
Hi, yes I have printed the aircraft with few problems. I use S3D on homemade printer. However since then I have had big work changes and have not had enough time to finish it.
This was surprisingly interesting. Thanks for sharing
Very detailed - thank you for sharing.
Thank you!!! You've saved my ass, I've been struggling for hours
Brilliant, you have saved me from hours of torment...lol. Great workaround thank you.
