Sorry but pretty sure that alphabet piece is aluminum. Tin has always been expensive so manufacturers rarely avoid stamping the % tin on it. That piece even sounds like aluminum. ebay listings usually claim aluminum pieces like Wilton are pewter, which is fraud. As soon as you ask them why they think it’s Pewter they admit that it isn’t

Duh, most pewter has the %tin stamped on the bottom and nobody put lead in something with 90 plus % tin

Not all detectors detect all types of radiation. Im not saying this isnt the scam but maybe try it with a different radiation source

Test it with an old smoke detector. The shielding blocks most, but not all of the radiation. My cheap geiger counter definitely picks it up.

My theory is that you might be able install a GM tube such as an sbm 20 j321 or m4011 or similar in there though i currently do not have any available unless i want to canablize one of my counters.

Thorium mainly gives off alpha particles and very weak gamma rays. alpha particles can't really pass through much (stopped by a sheet of paper or the outer layer of your skin) Giger counters that can detect alpha particles and gamma rays are a bit more complicated and thus Expensive. The Geiger counter you have likely only detects beta particles. Try waving it over some uranium glass or fiesta ware

Always liked the first MR2 AW11, always put a new rear main seal when changing the clutch. Not sure about swapping cranks that way, just awkward, good to see your saving it!

The number one thing that kills these after rebuild is people forgetting to replace the oil cooler. That oil cooler is jammed full of metal because it is pre filter and it will destroy your engine right away if you dont replace it. First run that the oil cooler thermostat opens up you flush all that metal back through your engine.
