I have recently bought a pair CS99As. I have them connected to a Pioneer SX950 amplifier. All the cone speakers (woofer; midrange) are FB and in mint condition. The seller told me both the horn tweeters and super tweeters are cooked. So I bought two PT-410F-2 horn tweeters and four super tweeters. One set is type 25-7227 and another set KA7116. After replacing the tweeters they sound crispy and very good. However I don't hear the super tweeters. They seem to be okay, each measure 4 ohms. My question is...someone who owned or tested the CS99S speakers...can you really hear a huge difference with/without the supertweeters?

... Now own a pair of Sansui 2500s, smaller than 3000s but they are great speakers too. It wasn't just because of the price American servicemen brought Sansui's back to the U.S.

I don't remember the speakers. But, I vaguely remember the YAMAHA amp.

nice scott and sansui speakers, but mine is a 436 and as independent tone controls for each side left and right, it sounds amazing today and worked since early 78 when bought in L.A. and remenber being expensive, this when travelling with a dutch friends to go annd buy cars to sell in europe ,there was a big demand for american cars and almost none selling them, we filled our pockets with money doing so

Id swap the tweeter and mid around on one of those to make them a mirror-image stereo pair. Then I'd mount that mid-bass driver in its own enclosure if it wasn't already. Then I'd put a proper crossover in it - even a simple first order crossover would be better than what's in most Criterion speakers, which in the case of these vintage speakers are way out of tolerance electrolytic capacitors.

I had a Kenwood receiver with 35 watts/channel hooked up to my CS 99A speakers. These speakers were so efficient (at least in those days) that I could rarely crank the volume more than 30%. I still have the speakers from 1975. I still have my Kenwood, too! Too bad I’m mostly streaming these days.
