Robert Drake's Farm
Приєднався 23 лис 2007
Tractors, and farm equipment, raising and caring for livestock, logging and enjoying the outdoors. Left Georgia after my Mom died of lung cancer and moved to work on the family farm in PA.
Short section of fence
Got a short section of fence done from the top of the hill down to the creek. Had a large limb fall into the area I was working in, fortunately I wasn't there when it came down. The base of the limb stuck about a foot into the ground.

20'x20' carport

From start to finish, it took several days to cut down and remove the trees from the site. Got a load of gravel Monday and prepared the site. Had an issue with the framing not being square. Had to cut it off and weld it square. Worked on it a couple of hours a day and finished installing the last two rows of roofing panels Sunday morning.
Farm & Garden update for June 30, 2024

I've been busy with the site preparation for the 20'x20' carport. The woodchipper has been awesome for removing all of the limbs. The first cut hay was a failure, only got 50 bales made, and normally get 200. Haven't had a chance to work on the baler. The garden looks good except for the sweet corn, which is a little sparse.

Finally, dry enough to cut hay. The grass was so tall had issues with it wrapping around the reel bearing. My fix for the issue. Picked up a 20'x20'x7' carport. The site for the carport and chipping up branches from the trees I took down. Hay is raked and ready to bale. Got a ton of firewood to split. Garden is doing good, need to weed and had to replant the sweet corn.

Built another H-brace and corner post to finish the fenceline on the back of the farm. Added some welding videos of me building the H-brace a short clip of my new Beagle puppy Grace, finishing up the fence on the back of the farm and building a short section of fence to connect the back section to the north section.
More of fenceline done.

East fenceline from the Southeast corner to the bluff is done about 240'. Now, I just need to build one more H-brace at the bottom of the bluff and build a corner brace for the Northeast corner and East fenceline will be done.

So did you get the plate and install it? Got any pics of the installed governor compensation spring and plate?
Yes did. Here is the link. ua-cam.com/video/RishT0Bt5zs/v-deo.htmlsi=uTenKLwfozzs_pm_
@@Rdrake1413, ah! I had looked at this video, but somehow missed those frames that showed this installed. Thanks much! Your throttle lever looks REALLY tight. I'm hopeful mine will stick like that. I replaced the throttle quadrant and pointer ball, but it still was loose. I then moved down that bracket that pushes down on the spring, and that helped more, but it still wants to pop out of position.
That piece is a piece of metal with 2 holes, right? Fastened tight so it has no movement?
HOW DID YOU GET THE THROTTLE LEVER IN?
@@DougieD61 the throttle shaft just drop down through the hood.
@@Rdrake1413, you don't have to disconnect anything?
"Leaking down." What does that mean? Mine will go up and down, but when I disengage the pto, it drops - the heavier the load, the faster it drops. Is that what you mean by "leaking down?" Thx!
By leaking down I mean hydraulic fluid is leaking pass the cylinder. Usually a bad seal. The heavier the implement the faster it will drop. The 3- point will only work with the PTO engaged. I've attached a video that will help diagnosis any 3- point issues. ua-cam.com/video/hqqtO5lAing/v-deo.htmlsi=z5mRXC3DpP0GJzmj
@@Rdrake1413, thanks. Yeah, I've watched Rachel's video. I just wanted to make sure you meant what I thought you meant. Thanks again.
How's the Brush-Crusher and loader working out after 2 years?
@@martylost167 Took a little bit to remember to work the bucket controls backwards. But it works great. I worked for a local John Deere and installed many grapples with a 3rd function. Like the fact it was way cheaper and easier to buy and install. Plus its all mechanical with no electrical 3rd functon controls.
@@Rdrake1413 Thanks!
Awesome job, Robert! I was wondering how you've been doing, you've been busy! That looked like a big branch, I'm glad it didn't fall while you were working. I cut up a tree yesterday at a friend's house, he said that Friday evening he was looking at that tree (which was still standing) and wondering how to bring it down without it landing on the fence. Friday night the wind blew it down on the fence. Made more work for him fixing the fence but less for me because it was already down. Thank you for sharing, Robert! I hope you have a great week!
@@evanaustin2636 Hey Evan yeah those limbs can be deadly. Had a guy get killed by a limb here not long ago.
Wow, that looks amazing Mr Robert!! You sure do make that look easy!! I know those rocks were tuff!! Thank goodness you weren't there when the limb fell!! Look fwd to seeing the next step !! 😁😁👍🏻
@@Pennies_on_the_dollar Thanks Nelson. Those three hole were the worse so far. Had to break up rocks with a piece of rebar and 3 lb hammer. I bought a San Angelo bar for the next holes.
@Rdrake1413 We use something similar at work too, does make it easier! Looks great!
Good morning Robert ☕☕☕ H braces are looking good 👍 You're getting there!!! Definitely a good thing you weren't in the way of that branch finding the ground!!

@GosselinFarmsEdGosselin Good evening Ed. Yeah my plan is hopefully to get it closed in. Main thing is they are out of the weather somewhat. Hoping at least to keep the baler dry.

Looks like you've been pretty busy!! And plenty of do! Thank you Robert!
Good evening Ed. Yes trying to catch up on things since I wasn't able to do anything for the last two months because of my surgery.
You've been busy! Looks like you've got some serious hay to bale! Carport will be nice when you get it put up. I like that wood chipper, looks like it does a pretty nice job! Hope you have a good week, Robert!
Good evening, Evan. I haven't been able to do much the last two months because of my surgery, so I'm way behind. May and the first part of June were really wet, so the grass got really tall. Some of these windrows are huge. Gonna have to go slow baling. It would be nice to get the carport up so I can finally have a place to keep equipment out of the weather. The chipper is nice. Has a hydraulic feed and will chip up to 6" in diameter. Use it mostly for small branches. Bigger stuff I cut for firewood.
Mr Robert you have a beautiful farm, now I could have done without the Bald faced hornet nest though 🤣🤣🤣

Got an old 8n that runs absolutely great, just have to replace several seals and also figure out the 3 point leaking down. I’ve come to the conclusion that I really need to buy another 8n to have one running while fixing the other. Jubilees are running about the same price in my area, so thinking I’ll get one
If its leaking down it's most likely the seal on the piston.I really like the 8N, just wish I didn't have to run the PTO for the 3 point to work.
Have a TC33D super steer I bought new in 2000. Parking break light stays on as you mentioned. How difficult and what part would I need to fix the problem? Thanks
It was a pain to replace the brake light switch. Both of the brake pedals arms are in the way, and if I remember, there is a hydraulic line there also. It can be done just need to be patient and take your time. Not a job I'd want to do very often. Think the switch was about $80 from Messicks Part#86531138 just looked it up and it's gone up to $384.28 ridiculous

Thank you, Evan. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Grace loves the snow. When I get home from work, I take her out for a walk around the farm. We are out till dark. I just about have to drag her home.
That sucks. We have one of those on our 8n that we bought from a store called Central Tractor back in the mid 80s. Unit has been rock solid and worked like a charm. The original bracket you removed was part of the original style of swinging drawbar those tractors had. The original swinging drawbar actually integrated into the 3 point hitch arms and had a lock bar that would hold the arms down. A lot of those got scrapped over the years
The only part I had was the original pivot point for the drawbar. The part around the PTO shaft was missing.
@@Rdrake1413 The original style didn't have a bracket that went around the PTO. The original style was different. Hopefully the link doesn't get stripped. fordtractorcollectors.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/swingbar.jpg

Good morning, Ed. Sorry, I haven't been watching many UA-cam videos lately, and I'm way behind on yours. Your granddaughter sure is a cutie. I've had a few health issues and will be going in on the 18th for a biopsy. Thank you for the comment on the fence. That back section has very steep hills and two creek crossings. The fenceline was never maintained after Grandpa passed away in 1985 and trees had fallen on it and floods had washed out other sections.

Making a desperate search for an answer in the comments here. I have a 2N, slightly different pump. Had a very weak lift when I bought it. Goes up and down fine, but if there's an implement on back, it can't lift it. Rebuilt the pump this winter, brand new cam, cam blocks, pistons, valves, relief valve, and control valve, same problem. Found a very slight leak from the piston a few days ago. Put in a brand new piston and cylinder, the new style, STILL WILL NOT LIFT. I do not see any visible leaks anywhere, does anyone have any ideas? Control spring is adjusted per the book, no luck
Man that is pretty frustrating after spending all the time replacing parts. Only thing I can think of maybe some trash blocking a line. Steiner tractor has some pretty good videos on diagnosing hydraulic problems.
@Rdrake1413 at this point, every piece has been disassembled and cleaned, so I hope that isn't the case, don't want the newly rebuilt pump ruined. Any experience replacing the tube that goes from the pump base to the top lid if that ends up being the culprit?
@HedgehogOutdoors No sorry I have never done that. Might try blowing air through it to see if it is plugged.
@Rdrake1413 already tried that, it blew fluid out of the pump just fine. Just got in a 1/8NPT pressure gauge, made an adapter by drilling and tapping a bolt to screw into the pump base plate. Going to try getting a pressure reading tomorrow if those threads hold
What do you fill the power steering reservoir with?
I use 134 New Holland hydraulic fluid same as what I use in the transmission. The TC33D has two hydraulic pumps. One for the steering and another one for the tractor hydraulic system.
