Guitar Amp Isolation Booth - A/B Test | ClearSonic AmpPac 21
Here we have a short-form version of our AmpPac 21 A/B test video to quickly demonstrate how an AmpPac works:
Get a feel for the AmpPac 21 guitar amp isolation booth as we show a before and after comparison with and without the booth. The AmpPac 21 excels at isolating your guitar amp and reducing volume for home practice, recording, and live performance so you can maintain proper tube gain, achieve a cleaner mix, and capture great takes.
AmpPacs utilize our acrylic shields to reflect and isolate sound waves, allowing our Sorber sound absorption baffles to do what they do best - bring down the volume.

    I don't understand the high cost for only a 10 db difference when completed? How does 10db equate to 50% reduction? Its 100 db in booth 76db, 78db 8 ft and 10ft which still is not 50%. Wouldn't you need to get 50db to reduce 100db in half?

    • @clearsonicmfg
      @clearsonicmfg 4 дні тому

      The equation for decibel reductions don't work like that. The human ear perceives a 50% sound reduction of about 10dB. That's why we thought it was important to actually HEAR the sound reduction in the video. You can research how decibel reductions work or give us a call/email and we'll be happy to explain it to you. Thanks!

    judging by the decibel meter, all your product does is slightly muffle the sound. your 2nd model made a maximum of just 10db difference. For the cost, i would not be advertising this product.

      @clearsonicmfg 14 днів тому

      A 10 decibel reduction is about a 50% perceived sound reduction. This is hard to demonstrate with a UA-cam video, that's why we included the decibel meters in the shots. You would mic the cab inside the isolation booth so you'll still hear the amps true voice.

    If you’re looking for something for home use, save yourself a few hundred dollars and take your couch cushions off, put two in front of the amp in a V shape and put the third on top. I do this for recording at home. It works 100 times better than these outrageously overpriced products that do hardly anything and it’s free. These products have their place, but that’s on stages where there isn’t any other option and for more specific control in studios that are already acoustically treated and insulated. You’re not going to get much of a result for sound reduction and isolation at home. That’s just not really what they’re made for.

    • @clearsonicmfg
      @clearsonicmfg 14 днів тому

      A 10 decibel reduction with our AmpPacs is a 50% perceived volume reduction, so they do work. But they aren't 100% sound PROOF, that's very hard to accomplish, unless you want to spend thousands of dollars for a room within a room. But the couch cushions is certainly a good idea, but your "100 times better" claim would result a negative sound vacuum and possibly turn into a black hole. No one wants that...

    Why is your lovely assistant messing with the dB meter between tests? First, the UA-cam compression makes the level difference difficult to discern even through good speakers. The "test" should have been through a looper that replayed the exact same part for each test, although a spectrum analyzer would have been more useful to see what frequencies were lost, and how much.

    • @clearsonicmfg
      @clearsonicmfg 10 місяців тому

      As the acrylic and sound absorption are added and the volume lowers, she is adjusting the input range of the dB meter. If these adjustments were not made, the meter would begin to show a -Lo- rating at the lower volume instead of a dB measurement. You are correct that the UA-cam compression makes it difficult to discern what it is like to actually be in the room. We are looking for ways to improve that. Your suggestion about the looper and spectrum analyzer are appreciated and will be considered in future demos. Thanks for your comments!

    We keep running into an issue where the already installed hinge slides down the groove such that is the weight of the panel will rest on the hinge itself when standing upright, or at a minimum they slide down where the cable cutout is and do not allow for cables to pass through anymore... Do you have any recommendations on how to correct this aside from uninstalling and reinstalling the hinges? Any recommendation for "sliding" the hinge back up into the appropriate position vertically on the panel?

    • @clearsonicmfg
      @clearsonicmfg Рік тому

      Hey there, sorry to hear about your hinge troubles. The hinges can slide for instance if the shield gets moved by grabbing and dragging it by one panel. Be careful when moving or adjusting the placement of the shield - it's best to fold it up accordion style if moving a far distance, or to carefully pull the panels by the cable cutouts at the bottom for shorter distances. The hinges will not reinstall properly as removing them damages the tooth that snaps into the panel groove. If the hinges have been previously removed and then reinstalled, that may be the cause of the issue, and they will need to be replaced with new ones. If they have not been removed, the best fix is to have someone hold a panel at the top while another person pushes up on the hinge/next panel from the bottom. You should be able to work it back up into place this way. Dripping some rubbing alcohol into the hinge channel groove may help with this. If you continue to have issues, please call us at 800-888-6360 or email info@clearsonic.com and we'll be happy to help troubleshoot further.

      The video does not do justice to how the volume changes compared to being in the room. If you watch the decibel meter, there is a drop in dB's from a max of about 108 to about 98. According to the decibel scale, a drop in 10dB = 10x less power. Depending on your neighbors and the construction of your apartment, this may be enough to bring your amp to reasonable levels. You can achieve even more dB reduction with our AP21 that utilize more of our acrylic panels & Sorber absorption panels: www.clearsonic.com/collections/speaker-cabinet-amppacs/products/ap21-amppac-21. @@soofitnsexy Yes, a lid on top is the most effective way to bring down the volume. Without it, the sound waves from the amp reflect off the front shield and out into the room. The rear absorption baffles help but the lid is doing a lot of heavy lifting as far as sound absorption. Your other alternative would be to acoustically treat the room itself with sound aborption panels, but this takes a lot more time/money.

    • @clearsonicmfg
      @clearsonicmfg 2 роки тому

      There are no hard-set rules to placing the shield, but I usually go for about 1 ft. of space in between the speakers and shield. This leaves room for a mic to be placed and gives the speaker(s) some room to breathe. That said, experimenting with the placement is fine to find what works best for you.

  • @hairlab9646
    @hairlab9646 2 роки тому

    This may bw the worlds dumbest question, but I assume the lid is absorbing some of the sound the plexiglass reflected upwards. Assuming you don't want to use the lid, would you get any reduction in db by treating, say, a 6X6 area on the ceiling directly above the amp?

    • @clearsonicmfg
      @clearsonicmfg 2 роки тому

      Not a dumb question at all. We've never tested a scenario like that so we can't provide any concrete dB measurement. This would reduce less volume than using a lid on top, but treating the ceiling above the amp would certainly still help to reduce reflections off the ceiling and be quieter than having no treatment at all. This would be fine if you are trying to improve the room acoustics - if the goal is to isolate the amp, keeping the lid on top is your best bet. I hope that helps!

    No noticeable change to me in terms of decibels. Between 3 and 6 max, but intermittent depending on the dynamics. I think the benefit of panels like that is to cut the direct sound harshness hitting people right in front of the amp. If someone needs to have less volume in DBs, then I would not use it.

    • @clearsonicmfg

      You're correct the shield itself blocks the 'beam' coming from the amp and dynamics play a part in that the volume is constantly fluctuating, however you can clearly see the drop in dB's from a max of about 108 to about 98. You can achieve even more dB reduction with our AP21 that utilize more of our Sorber absorption panels: www.clearsonic.com/collections/speaker-cabinet-amppacs/products/ap21-amppac-21. Thanks for your input!

    Is it me, or did it not really change the db metre much until you put the lid on? And wouldn't that potentially lead to your amp overheating through a full gig, if it's a valve amp? Not trying to be argumentative - I was googling to find something like this as a solution, but I thought I'd see a greater db reduction.

    • @clearsonicmfg
      @clearsonicmfg 3 роки тому

      Hi Keith, great questions! It's true the most volume reduction is going to happen with a lid going on top. There is about a 10dB drop overall which means the amp is 10x quieter. Without the lid you are more or less going to be blocking the beam from the amp, which still lowers volume but not as much. Greater dB reduction can be achieved by using more of the Sorber absorption panels (but then you lose visibility of the amp). These booths are not airtight so there is enough airflow to prevent the amp from overheating - we've never had any reports of amps having any issues being in any of our booths. Hope that helps, let us know if you have any other questions. :)

      You're not wrong. +3dB is twice as much power. The smallest difference in level that most people easily perceive is 3dB. 1 db is the smallest difference for most people whereas 3db is quite noticeable. Double the apparent loudness is more like 10dB Double / half is generally accepted at 10db although it appears that it has much to do with the nature of the sound and the relative move compared with the absolute level, and I've read sources touting as little as 6db change can be described as twice/half the volume under the right circumstances. These shields are great, I have one myself. BUT, they do NOT make the amp 10X quieter. No way! ...Maybe more like cut the perceived volume in half is a better more realistic description. If it's an open back, you'll have to deal with the reflection from there too of course, but that can more easily be adjusted but putting the amp closer to a wall if you're at a rehearsal or a club, or maybe put your pedal board case behind there.

    • @clearsonicmfg
      @clearsonicmfg 3 роки тому

      @@jacobpetersen5662 You're right! According to the decibel scale, a drop in 10dB = 10x less 'power', not perceived volume. Halving the perceived volume is a better way of putting it. Thanks for your input!

      @clearsonicmanufacturing7342 4 роки тому

      That's a great question, Marco! You do not want to remove the hinges unless absolutely necessary as they will not re-attach to the panels. The panels can be folded for easy storage. You do want to be careful to fold the panels back the way they come when they are shipped. Looking down at the shield from the top, each hinge will have a slight curve or 'u' shape to it in the middle. The panels/hinge need to fold in the direction of that curve. It can be a little tricky since they fold 'accordion style' - each panel will fold from the opposite side of the one before it (i.e. if the first panel folds on the right, the next will fold on the left, and so on..) I hope that helps, but let us know if you have any more trouble!

I believe you may have already received an answer via email, but just to be sure I wanted to provide the info on this: you do want to be careful to fold the panels back the way they come when they are shipped. It was only when the roof went on that the sound level dropped. One of my biggest gripes with drum shields is they only deflect the sound not reduce it. Putting the drums out of sync with the rest of the band. This one works, it actually does what it claims to do!

    Maybe I will purchase the Isopac e. Is it suitable to get dry vocals?

    • @clearsonicmfg
      @clearsonicmfg 7 років тому

      It sure is, as pretty much any IsoPac would be. The two major considerations for a vocal booth are what you want to use it for and what size you need. If you're only recording one vocalist, something like the IsoPac G could suffice. If you're recording vocals and acoustic guitar (or another instrument), multiple vocalists, or if you think you would ever need to record drums at some point, something like the IsoPac E would be a great place to start.

    • @DeskarTube
      @DeskarTube 7 років тому

      Hello, thank you for your fast answer. I only record vocals. But I have the chance to get the isopac e very cheap (maybe for under 300 dollar). so I think its a pretty good deal. If it is too big, I can make it smaller by not using all walls, can I?

    • @clearsonicmfg
      @clearsonicmfg 7 років тому

      You're welcome, Deskar! I agree that would be a good deal on the IsoPac E. Also, you are correct about making the booth smaller by using less panels or walls. However, please keep in mind that if you disconnect any of the acrylic panels from each other, the hinge will be destroyed and you will need a new hinge to put them back together. In the event you need to do that, we (or one our dealers) can provide you with a replacement. Good luck with your recordings!

    Please explain your conclusion of 50% reduction in volume with only a mere 16db reduction from 93db. Also - most all advertisements for the mini and mega state 60%-70% reduction. I'm considering a purchase of the mini and am very interested regarding these questions - thanks.

    • @clearsonicmfg
      @clearsonicmfg 7 років тому

      The 60-70% rating is based on the decibel logarithmic scale, which goes up and down in powers of 10. A decrease in decibels from 93 to 83 means the sound is 10 times quieter, or roughly half as loud. A decrease to 73 decibels would be 100 times quieter, or a quarter as loud. Since the final decibel rating in the video does not quite reach down to 73 db, we rate between a 50-100% reduction of decibels (volume reduction) at around 60-70%. Please refer to the linked article for some more information about how the decibel scale works: www.explainthatstuff.com/soundlevelmeters.html.

      The absorption panels are called Sorber. We sell them in a range of sizes. (www.clearsonic.com/sorber.htm) They work just as well as wall treatment in a room with too much reflection as they do to control volume and bleed in our isolation booths.

  • @c.s.5177
    @c.s.5177 8 років тому

    What is the difference with and without the absorption panels?

    • @clearsonicmfg
      @clearsonicmfg 8 років тому

      We always recommend you use some combination of acrylic and Sorber panels. Without absorption panels, you would not see as much volume reduction. The clear acrylic only reflects sound, while the Sorber (absorption) panels absorb sound. You will not really be reducing any decibels without using something to absorb the sound waves. The best you can do with acrylic alone is reflect sound waves somewhere else. This may be perceived as being quieter if standing directly in front of the sound source, but the sound waves will simply be bouncing around the room, which can sometimes make the sound source (i.e. drum set) seem even louder.
