Global Institute for Food Security (GIFS)
Canada
Приєднався 10 вер 2015
The Global Institute for Food Security nurtures ingenious science with the aim of delivering sustainable global food security.
Our mission is to help feed the world through transformative innovations in agriculture and food production that will benefit both local, national and international economies, as well as improving social and environmental well-being.
We believe that WHERE we grow food is not as important as HOW we grow food, and work to mobilize emerging technologies to the developing world.
GIFS was founded by initial investments from PotashCorp, the Government of Saskatchewan and the University of Saskatchewan.

Innovation and Impact: Case Studies in Accelerated Breeding
On Oct. 31, 2024, the Global Institute for Food Security (GIFS)at the University of Saskatchewan hosted a seminar exploring accelerated breeding success stories from both the livestock and crop sectors.
The event, hosted by Dr. Nancy Tout (PhD), GIFS Chief Scientific Officer, featured presentations from:
• 08:30 - Dr. Christine Baes (PhD), University of Guelph - Genomics for a sustainable future: Large-scale applied research projects in livestock
• 41:40 - Dr. Clay Sneller (PhD), Ohio State University - Impact of breeding consortiums: How a program can be small and big at the same time
• 1:12:40 - Q&A
About the FCC Accelerated Breeding Program at GIFS
Accelerated breeding enables researchers to shorten the breeding cycle and increase the rate of genetic gain in crop and livestock breeding programs through the application of genomic selection, speed breeding, and modelling. GIFS has the innovative, at-scale technology platforms and highly skilled team to make accelerated breeding accessible to diverse organizations in both the public and private sectors. From our base in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, a thriving hub of agricultural research, development, and production, we are working with partners to apply these technologies and strategies to diverse commodities and deliver market-impacting innovation to agricultural producers. I knew Mark when he was an undergrad. Marvellous mini moke driver. (inside joke) But salinility and agriculture is super important. Good talk.
This was my translation exam video but now I listen to it for fun
fast forward in 2022 , no one would have imagine that saving soil will become a global movement , we understand it completely sir , what u said was meant to be accomplished , policies had to be made and implemented , the glue have to be used and we will make it happen! #SAVE SOIL
Good contribution
Very informative.
I am encouraged by your research.
Very interesting and educative

The EU is keeping the developing world in the dark - while it languishes in its own unscientific dark age.
Can we gene drive all Sketo‘s to spread another GeneDrive of my RNA to all breading humans there making all humans to spread my genetic inheritance through out the world with out anyone having to say “and ya didn’t take me to dinner first”. ?
incorrect description for this video
bla bla bla
If you want real anarchy, empower individuals to grow their own food. Nothing about this guy seems authentic to me... he's just pushing product on a global scale for profit. If you are of true scientific nature, you would admit we don't know enough to be certain about the effects of GMO's. The future is in permaculture... affordable food is not cheep food, its the food YOU grow!
That lady knocking over his posts was so infuriating.
well done "big brother"
