Few artists today can make fun of their own art. And if Nick Cave was more popular he would get woked to hell by this song alone. After listened to the rest of his catalogue protests would be outside his home demanding him locked up ;-) Lets be thankfull artists still demand a voice in an age self censoreship

Out of nowhere, just as I thought what this singular song would turn into in a different key... Searched and found, thanks to the uploader. This is a perfect, compact rendition. This is exactly what concerts are for and *not* to reproduce studio versions night after night. Waving from Istanbul.

Thanks. I can't remember when this was, I assume it was the years he toured solo with Jim, Martin, and Warren before they became Grinderman. I'm thinking around 2001 or 2002 shows.

@@DuShaneTony --- Source spotted: Wiltern Theater, Los Angeles on 25.03.2001. Here's the review in Los Angeles Times : _“I don’t do happy. I do angry and I do sad,” Nick Cave told his audience early in his Wiltern Theatre concert Sunday, rejecting a request for something out of character. As if many in the devoted crowd needed reminding that Cave is rock’s premier auteur of obsession and despair. --- Actually, maybe a little reminder was in order. It’s been five years since Cave’s last album of new material, “The Boatman’s Call,” and with a new one due soon the singer is doing a few U.S. shows. Instead of a big-deal album launch, it’s a low-key visit with a small combo; drummer Jim White and violinist Warren Ellis, both of the Australian band Dirty Three, and bassist Susan Stenger. (The big-deal tour this fall will be with his regular band, the Bad Seeds.) --- The result was an intimate, casual retrospective of the Cave oeuvre, with the singer contrasting the sometimes dire material with a relatively amused, outgoing manner. Sort of like a cabaret act at a mortuary. The instrumentation favored the funereal rather than the fevered, though “The Mercy Seat” (which Johnny Cash recorded on his latest album) worked up a heavy froth, and his “Stagger Lee” assumed epic scale._ As of today, complete recording of the concert is available via Soulseek, in acceptable sound quality.

@@sunkenindeaf So cool!! I saw that show in San Francisco at the Palace of Fine Arts, I think he did two nights up there and I went both nights. And No More Shall We Part found its way online before it came out, so, I remember singing along to songs that weren't officially released yet. Same happened with the first Grinderman record, it got leaked about 5 months before release.....I wonder if they ever figured out who leaked those records. (Not that I was complaining as a listener.)

@@DuShaneTony Sorry for the super-delayed response, I rarely check this email. I'm Julio Dulce de Azucar from Facebook, we talked a little about the Rhoads a while back. I'm unsure but I don't think you and I met (probably narrowly missed each other in that cong, I was there in the early 90's for a bit. My brother Dennis is still there to this day, he was friends with Matt too and I was friends with Justin). I finally tracked down your movie one afternoon and watched it, man what a roller coaster.

If Nick Cave didn't do the stripped down solo shows there would have never been Grinderman. Without Grinderman there would have been no "Dig Lazarus Dig" -- then without Warren as his new go-to and the film scores, there would be no "Push the Sky Away." Growth as an artist, which is rare in music, takes some slaps. And the lyrics are good fun here. This was a b-side and Nick solo.....gotta sometimes get dirty to get greater.
