you obviously wont learn a language from just using duolingo once a week or even everyday. if you want to learn a language, you have to WANT it, which means putting in the dirty work to:
-research grammar
-get out of your comfort to talk to natives
-change the language of things you use/watch/play to your target language
-find language exchange practice partners from discord servers or language exchange apps
-practice writing the characters of your language if they have a different writing system
the main takeaway is that if you really want it and you enjoy learning languages, the dirty work wont feel so dirty and sooner or later you'll reach your goals in language learning :) if you have any questions or thoughts let me know in the comments or on my stream!

I 1000% understand it’s not the point of the video, but being able to enter a language learning space as an English speaker and already have an advantage just because of the sheer numbers game of everyone ELSE wanting to exchange their knowledge to learn English is a perfect example of what real "white privilege" is. I don’t mean that in a negative judgement way either. Just a side effect of western culture being so dominant (for better AND worse). The same could probably be true for certain languages and dialects in China.
I learned english from video games, other methods were.. not practice inspiring
i played a lot of games in english and i think my english is bad my words are : sword shield stamina shooter parry level etc...
I LEARNED ENGLISH BY UA-cam BRO 💀
Anki is amazing however it is not a language(or whatever else) learning app. It is a memorization app. It will make you not forget things, not teach you. It's a big difference that many people get wrong. You learn something then put it into a deck and by repetition it stays in your memory. Anki itself does not teach you.
I achieved C1 in English by using discord and play video games
0:40 GOD DAMN AMAZING WORK DUDE. As someone from Spain I've never seen someone this fluid in spanish as a second language, and I live in a tourist town meaning most people I meet are retirees from outside the country and most of them do not even know the language, only some try and poorly at that. I can vouch for your spanish 100% keep that shit up
I can speak english fluently from video games but its not my native language
Thats how i learnt french and english and spanish lol, play Minecraft and csgo lmao
wouldnt really say the video was helpful to me, since i already used this method to learn english over 10 years ago, but i hope more people will find this video and learn that learning new languages can be fun and entertaining instead of hard and boring. i myself learned english via a online mmo back in the day, and to be honest i had almost zero english knowledge beforehand, besides elementary english class from school which was pretty bad and almost not helpful at all. thankfully the game had a integrated auto translator for items/greetings ect. so you could talk to people via that option and since you are in a group(party) of course there was allot of english speaking so i picked it up pretty fast because like you said i was surrounded by it, i was kinda forced to learn it to even communicate but it was also kinda fun to see the change from people being baffled because you dont know certain words and then you have to explain to them that you are not a native english speaker, but still learning. haha
Tbt when I was like 6 and I had a Gameboy with Pokemon Red and it was a Spanish cartridge and that's how I learned super basic Spanish and now I'm at university mastering C1 Spanish 🤯
"New languages start with curse words." (Speech by some certain guy.)
Playing escape from escape from tarkov with my russian friends taught me so many unique ways to insult people, but also a TON of medical and monetary terms, as well as general grammar, also, i found that if you turn on a stream for a game you understand really well, in your target language, you learn a lot of words you normally use.
Awesome videoo
1:05 that sounds unnatural. El mismo resultaldo EXACTAMENTE igual al que les mostraré, chicos/muchachos sounds better
Honestly this is how I learned French back then, awesome stuff!! ^^
My senpai told me that he learned Japanese solely by playing Japanese "adventure" games...you know, very visual and it's all about cute girls
"want to learn how i learned my english!?" "roblox...play roblox"
You don't have to tell me that yk? 0:00 how do you think i know english and can type super fast?
I agree man. I started learning Portuguese through music and Duolingo, and one day a Brazilian player was in my lobby, and we ended up becoming good friends that I went to Brazil and met up with him and his family. All this because we kept playing together and I practiced my accent and dialect. People from Brazil typically tell me that I sound like I’m a native. All in 4 years.
sims helped me A LOT learning english. i first started with video games and watching other people play games.
If anyone wants to speak malagasy, you can hit me up
I used to play among us on the latin american servers and made my name "manolo", I could usually blend in for a few rounds before they discovered I didn't really speak spanish lol. Good times
learning german while playing racing games driving audi bmw and mercedes 🔥
Bro said : I unfortunately play valorant XD
I learnt a fair bit of spanish just playong runescape while qll the vennies were gold farming. Had a whole vennie spy net work on payroll at one point xD.
So... I did the same that you did to learn spanish...but to keep up to date my English haha!
What if i want to learn a programming language?
csgo
It's true, I'm Brazillian and I learned english by roleplaying on roblox. Effing roblox. I'm thinking about learning more languages this way but I'm feeling shy playing online with people who speak languagues that I don't know anything about🥲
0:35 ROMÂNIA MENȚIONATĂ
Wanting to learn a new language but not wanting to talk to people in English or otherwise. 🥲
i learned english like this.
Please 🙏 name of song at 2:57
I learnt english the same way
"Why do you think people who move to other countries pick up the language they speak there?" I lived in South Korea for 15 months and my Korean barely got any better. In fact, there were days when I thought it was getting worse. This was surely my fault and no one else's, and it's a failure I'm utterly not okay with. Here's hoping these tricks will help me make up for that.
When you went "y eso no quere de decire que..." in like one breath, I knew you were legit.
So, personal story time, I'm brazilian, and therefore natively speak brazilian portuguese, at the age of 6 I got a PS2, we had a local place that sold pirated PS2 games for dirt cheap, and over the years I racked up quite the huge library of games, it being the PS2 era, most games didn't have a portuguese translation, the closest I got was a pt-pt dub for a Harry Potter game, not a pt-br translation, that is to say, I played basically every game I had in english, with no context, with no help, just my child self figuring it out. Around the age of 8 - 10 I had a pretty average understanding of english due to this, many times jokes in english or expressions would go over my head, due to me interpreting them literally, was that due to my lacking english knowledge or undiagnosed autism? I couldn't tell you. Around that same age is when I started watching youtube videos in english, not english classes videos, just general youtube content that happened to be in english. At the age of 12 - 13 I could comfortably be considered fluent in english, that is when me and my mom started doing english classes together, but I was already fluent, I was the best in the class by miles, always impressing the teachers. So yes, the PS2 and UA-cam made me fluent in english.
If you can learn a language just by gaming, you definitely have autism.
What if you're deaf and/or socially anxious? gg
I recommend watching let's plays in your target language. They often talk about the things happening and can be easier to understand in comparison to someone who talks about a topic
I'm a very slow learner and I want to learn Turkish. I'm more of a reality escapist so it's hard for me to have interest in things. what's the best way for someone like me who is way below average level. Also would appreciate if you could let me know the prompt you used to learn the language.
My dumb ass thought he meant Computer Languages... Which is also made easier via gaming. Once you have a basic idea how a (computer) language works you can sort of reverse engineer a games function. This applies to your apps as well. This is comment for instance is an input.
i learned a lot of english by playing minecraft. it took a few years before i found the language settings o7 now i'm playing it in spanish instead - along with duolingo, ofc, and the oft used search term "x conjugaciónes" lol
do you think this works for Irish too? because I'm using duolingo to learn it because I found out some of my DNA is irish
As a native spanish speaker your spanish is a solid 79 out of 100
Changing the language on devices and apps helps so well! I've been doing it for the past year and I'm much more comfortable reading than I was beforehand when the only reading I did was classroom textbooks. I'd like to recommend 'Toucan' as well! Not really gaming, but it's a chrome extension that changes words into your target language and you can hover them for the meaning! I've also used it for about a year and so far I love it!
I learned english just by insulting kids on titanfall 2
hell yeah
Great video! Editing is simple, to the point, and assists the topic of the video. Might have found a hidden gem... This is EXACTLY how I learned Japanese back when I was super into it. The Japanese-English language exchange server has been kind of rotting in the depths of my servers, and I might hop back into the VC for once. I've been looking to learn Spanish because of the community around me (and there's a lot of Spanish content I'd love to be able to comprehend/consume). You, my good sir, have earned a subscriber and have motivated me enough to actually start studying Spanish.
my latin teacher has always said that the best way to learn a language is to swim in it; use it as much as you can, speak to others with it, etc. That's how i learned english as an immigrant. it is also why latin is such a hard language to learn, because you can't exactly swim in it. I have a few friends who moved to France a couple of months ago and they are already able to converse well with locals and live without language issues.
