    I feel they were being a little harsh with Graham, he was a mechanic before he was a racing driver. He had spent a lot of years working on racing cars both at Lotus and his own projects. His background was engineering/mechanical so he would be super fussy about his car preparation, goes without saying? Secondly, if I was driving a bath tub full of fuel at nearly 200mph i'd be super fussy about preparation too!

    THANK YOU very much for this great video; a contemporary document that will certainly bring me and other racing fans a lot of joy! When I saw the Ferrari 250GTO (3589GT) with Mike Parks, I had chicken skin and a few tears in my eyes. Because I was allowed to park this legend out of the van and into the parking lot in Ascona on August 26, 1995. A dear friend and good Ferrari expert was invited to drive a 250GT LWB TDF, and I was also invited to ride along as a passenger. When my brother and I were on the pitch at 6.30 a.m., the phone came from the owner saying that they had to please put the five Ferraris on the pitch. So I received permission from the owner to sit in the GTO and park it. There was also the TDF, a SWB Berlinetta and a 250MM Vignale Spyder. Can you imagine what an honor this was for me; 1000 THANKS to the owner!!! I was also invited to see and photograph this very large and important Ferrari collection at the time. So I have a few hundred photos of 3589GT and many more. I would like to THANK MM very much for EVERYTHING and to the family that still owns this LEGEND of motorsport!!! In the last few years I have had many opportunities to get to know many racing drivers. I had close contact with Ninni Vaccarella, was able to speak to Phil Hill for a long time in Paris and Pebble Beach, Giannino Marzotto in Italy and so many others like Regazzoni, Ickx and Michael Schumacher...I was so lucky in my life to be able to experience the most incredible people in racing in a completely different way!!! Most viewers of this wonderful video are hardly aware that only the best risked their lives for an apple, a piece of bread and water! A £500 win for the first place is mentioned...What times those were! Of course there were beautiful women who were keen on these heroes. And one or the other got a job with a racing team. But real millions were a tram back then without really becoming a reality. I remember ALL RACERS who risked their lives or even lost them. Remember all the designers, carrozzieris who created these wonderful vehicles, and also all the mechanics who ensured that the cars could drive in circles under the most adverse conditions. A time that WILL NEVER BE AGAIN under these circumstances...despite all the revivals that are taking place all over the world. RIP to everyone who has gone to racing heaven and to everyone who is still there: BE HEALTHY AND HAPPY AND HOPEFULLY THE SAME TOMORROW!!!

    Bob Dance on the right - Dave Sims in the middle ? - Chief machanic Jim Endruweit, on the left. He was with Dave Sims at grey, rainy and cold Hockenheim, on 7th April 1968, when this man died: JIM CLARK - By far the greatest driver ever - no doubt. He is and was "The Best of the Best" (Fangio, Senna, Prost, Stewart and countless others about Clark). No other driver in history until today was so superior as Clark - No other driver as so much "Grand Slam" - Pole/Win/Fastest Lap/Leading every lap of the race - like him. And all that from just 72 starts... ! This man is the Olymp of driving - the Michelangelo of racing - a dynamic art at the highest level. So smooth, so precise, so fast....simply out of this world. One, who won in Spa by 5 minutes (!) in monsoon rain with only one hand at the wheel (!) because of gearbox trouble...One, who takes back a complete lap (!) in Monza and back into the lead... One, who took pole on the original 22,8 km Nürburgring track by 9 (!) seconds and more....One who won Indy by 2 whole (!) laps...For eternity and by lightyears unmatched in the sport. That`s just four examples of his mesmeric unique genius...

    I started watching F1 in 1984. Nigel Mansell is my favourite F1 driver ever. The blown tyre in Adelaide in 1986 showed how great he was. The way he was able to control the car after his rear tyre blowing out at 190mph took a lot of skill. Especially when you see how slowly and safely he parked the car at the side of the track. Piquet can keep his old flannel to himself as well. I always found him big headed and arrogant, but without the charm and humour.

    • @stuartbritton4811
      @stuartbritton4811 9 місяців тому

      Piquet was never arrogant and always charming and funny. He was countercurrent to the other drivers and had a freethinking head on him. Prost liked him, but Mansell, Senna, Balestre and the do-gooders hated his nonchalance and nonconformity, mistaking it for arrogance.

    • @michaelpashut1696

      @@stuartbritton4811 You are so on the money re Piquet.... Always a friendly guy who was easy going.... The British Press created a false narrative about Nelson. Niki, Alain absolute legends liked Nelson. See how those who worked with him rated him.... One small correction.... Balestre loved Piquet and had a huge soft spot for him.... as did Ken Tyrell Sid Watkins and Denis Jenkinson.

      I wouldn't say the best. Certainly one of the bravest and most determined. He didn't have the finesse of Clark, Fangio, Prost or Stewart. He was a great sportsman and had a never-say-die determination. A British bulldog spirit, if ever there was one. He could have used his brain better and could have taken criticism more lightly to focus on the task at hand. Didn't have the sheer natural talent of Clark, Senna, though, or the wileyness of Lauda. Didn't have the dominant confidence- the sheer belief of Schumacher or Fangio. I don't like to overrate or underrate any driver. Mansell was brilliant. But it was Fangio and Clark who were the masters. Untouchable. Villeneuve, Cevert and Jochen Rindt could have been.
