Having found myself with more time on my hands due to pandemic, I decided to start sharing for free, experiences, technics, ideas, and thoughts mostly about Architectural Photography and then some.
As a result, I am now in touch with photographers around the world that share the same passions as mine, and even helping with the R&R of some amazing gear for manufactures.

This is like visiting Willy Wonka’s Factory, but instead of chocolate he’s got all the most badass camera and computer gear ever. Heh heh! Fun stuff. 56 core Mac Pro and 512 GB of RAM, holey moley. I remember back when I was budgeting for new equipment at my job and the new Mac Pros had just been announced and I was crestfallen at how much they cost and knew that we could never afford them. So I can just make pizza cheese, not the big string cheese sticks like that bad boy.
Yah, computer cost me $28,000 and today my M3 laptop is faster. Those bastards at Apple don't avail you the option of up dating existing gear. &^%@^
thx for sharing this. amazing work.
Always nice to hear. 🙏🏻
Nice video. Do you have an instagram sir ?
no, i just use my website
Recently purchased this Unicorn Schneider lens, not sure how I found one, or if i can afford it, but if an opportunity presents itself...
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻. Which one?
Hello, Mr. Leggett! I have a question please. How are you stitching these photos together into one large image? Are you doing this all in Lightroom or using a different software program and importing to LR afterwards?
Hi, Use LR which works well with most all, but if that fails , do it in PS. View other videos of mine on the subject of DAS and you will be wiser. DAS (Dual Axis Shifting)
@@christopherleggettphotography Thank you!
Fantastic video, very informative. Does the GFX->EF adapter have any electical contacts for aperture control when using normal EF glass?
No, it does not
Hey Chris! Hope you’re doing well. Would love to see what you’re up to these days. Take care.
Good, Hope the same with you. thiss is one of my last shoots for Hugo Boss. www.christopherleggett.com/home/view_pg_all/e545468d7
Id kill for an evf extension cable, i shoot video with the GFX and love the evf but need it rigged to the side
Attach an Atomos
i have one, and no.
Why not, I use it all the time. works ok to get me out of tight spots
@@christopherleggettphotographyI’ve got a good collection of BMD and SmallHD monitors i can and do use, but I like the Fuji EVF a lot and would use it way more if i could relocate it.
cant help but agree on that. That is why i made the video and sent Fuji the link, Alas, yet to no avail. 😩
Your friend was trying to tell you politely stop obsessing over the equipment. Sorry but these images are extremely mundane, start looking at the world, not the pixels.
R U Serious, this is Gem of the video. thanks for making such great content. MAESTRO
Why, thank you.
I'm curious if you have a good alternative recommendation to that hard-to-find lens? Its on ebay right now for 7-8k, but that is hard to justify.
Sadly, I don't. Last year I bought a spare on for 4000 Euro, that is how much i value having one. Originally, Schneider was selling them for $8000. They only made 100 lenses in total. Then, as they were not selling, they dropped the price to $5000 and that is when i bought my first one. If you are in it for the long run, then 7/8k will still be a good investment, as, i think, the prices will keep going up.
..... but there now is the GF30mm PC, but that will only give you shift, not DAS
@@christopherleggettphotography Thank you for the reply. I'll keep searching for one of these lenses. I was thinking about trying the Cannon 28mm T/S but seeing your Schneider in action is compelling.
I just bought this lens and th GFX50s for 2000 dollars. What a camera. I am so happy and will be leaving the X mount all together. This is all I need for now.
Well done. You will never look back.
Your website isn't working.
Thank you so much for telling me. Am on it 🙏🏻
Very interesting and helping video, thanks for that. I plan to buy the GF 80 f/1,7. Would it have a sense to use this lens with the tubes for macro ? or the GF 110 is a better solution ? Thank You.
GF80 has been on my wish list for too long, so I am going to guess. The 80 MF is around 57mm expressed in a focal length of 35. As our eyes see the world in 35 focal length, it would stand to reason that the persecutive distortion, would then be a t a minimum.
Thank you for these comparisons. Very instructive. 👍
Glad and flattered that you enjoyed it.
Awesome idea... they'll never do it even though it so simple
Great! waht is that tuner?
Hello Christofer. I want to ask your opinion, do you think a move from 45mp FF to GFX 100s for architecture/int. design is a good move? I mean I know it' s ~stop more in DD and more mp, but probably my clients will not notice the difference. What is your opinion on that?
First, forget about the clients. They seldom see anything. It should be all about want you care. That will define you as a photographer. Next, file size, although advantageous, it is far less important than Dynamic Range. The GFX has about 17 stops, which is amazing, when you think back of chemical cameras , that had 4 stops on slides and nearly 5 stops on negative film. Its a game changer for architectural photography, especially in the tropics, where i mostly shoot, with huge differences between indoor and out door light.
Welcome to the world of photography. C1 enables one to take better control of the the broad spectrum of you RAW image ranges, but LR is more user friendly (my opinion) and with certain techniques, one can, in the end, achieve the same results.
Does Capture One still have this problem? I'm just starting to get into photography and not sure what program to learn.
Imagine a pair of glasses that did that.
i am sure that they are just around the corner
@@christopherleggettphotography I personally think there's a conspiracy in the camera industry. They are purposely putting inferior tech in cameras. They should have onboard fast storage, a screen like cell phones use, onboard fast charging like cells have, a sim card slot so you can live stream with the camera, apps for the camera so you can play games and use tools on your camera, security like a fingerprint reader and anti virus.
is it dumb to do panoramas of interiors? (with a parallax tripod adapter (or what's it called)) , without a tilt shift lens? or is it a waste of time? I m kind of sick of all the renders looking like they were made with a 80mm lens with a 20mm field of view.. and the pictures look, well like 23mm looks on a gfx sensor. ( i don't care about the advantages of resolution, not yet at least :) just as a look. )
when you shift the lens, it is extremely difficult to stitch the image, therefore using the camera movement and the lens fixed (shift lens) make's it a lot easier
Thank you for the video Christopher. I am very interested in the shift lens. To be used in my coming GFX100 ii. Question: did you purchase your Mamiya lenses from Japan, on eBay? Or elsewhere? I tend to buy mostly from Japan, as I get cleaner lenses in better condition.
Yes, I did. Good lucjk

You have however pretty much swung me over to fuji as its been my top three digital systems Ive been following for some time …any advice would be most appreciated thanks. ( from UK)
I have been following at least a dozen photographers on utube for a few years and wished I had come across your website sooner…afternoon years I now want to get out and buy some gear, but am poor and desperately want to get into pano/architectural genre ….BEING AN OLD PENTAX LOVER AND OLYMPUS 35MM should I start there again or just get straight into medium format and take time to learn of course the post production software not to mention the expensive computer accessories !? I hope you dont find my question silly….I tend to over analyse things and just cannot decide what to buy having binge-watched too many videos/vloggs
If you dont have $$$ then don't get into MF. There are great amounts of 35mm gear out there that will do the the job just fine. That's my recomendation.
Christen-her you are a genius at your craft/work …mesmerising ,unique and super inspiring🎶🌈 thank you.
one observation, isn't tilting to the ceiling technically a "reverse_ schiemflug" meaning that the tilt creates a minature effect, like looking from a high bridge onto a buisy street below, and ONLY tilting Downwards affects focus, ONLY not image proportions.
one adaptor you missed, the one from Sinar LF monorail cameras to fuji GFX an adaptor board which fits onto the standard, in place of the ground glass, this makes a fully featured f2 or P2 system available to the fuji, making it a macro camera, plus fully capable movements, as if you were using sheet film.
Wow! Do a YT video on that and then don't forget to send me a link
Loving you for "chemical cameras".
You could do a panorama for each set of exposures and then do a HDR? Or create HDRs and then combine the outcome into panorama? Manual (though can be scripted easily). Does Lightroom do the "scripting" internally? Or is the panorama creation HDR aware? It could deal with the overlaps differently - though that would be very complex.
You could do a panorama for each set of exposures and then do a HDR? Does not work that way.
Or create HDRs and then combine the outcome into panorama? I do that all the time can be scripted easily.... can you tell me how, as i would like to learn that Or is the panorama creation HDR aware........... it seems to be
@@christopherleggettphotography I do that with Hugin - needs some "shell programming" - pretty simple. All 3 options - create N panoramas (one at each exposure) and then create an HDR (with a separate tool). Or create HDR separately and stitch in Hugin. Or have Hugin do both simultaneously (including tone mapping). Will work if it is "good" panorama - in the sense the stitching is "clean" - otherwise, there can be problems at corner in the over / under exposed cases. And the panoramas will not align well. One can crop and align blah blah - but becomes too much pain. Ok for hackers like me doing it for self - maybe too much pain / trouble for a pro like you - will "waste" a lot of time. Though you could script them - but then you miss the controlled control point selections etc. "Algorithmically" Hugin is very good - usually better than a "big company" thing - who are more commercial, legacy maintaining, workflow optimization centric products. (I develop such stuff in a separate domain - that is how we make choices and radical changes are not feasible). Hugin is wrapper on panotools like thing - algorithmic sophistication but clumsy usage model. Likewise, if you want time lapses - try "ffmpeg" - you will see when it works well, it will do MUCH better than commercial tools. But needs arcane long command line arguments! Given (I am jumping to conclusion here) your love of pain - adapting old lenses, tilting / shifting away (I do that too - and love your videos but hartblei will never make special stuff for me booh booh) - you might find them interesting and fun. Though not the most efficient. You can have Hugin tell you - what command it will finally run - you can get that for ffmpeg too. And then run it in a "terminal" with the appropriate set of files.
@@amaitra Wow. When i catchup with work, will definitely look into Hugin. I thank you kindly. 🙏🏻
E stands for Electronic aperture as you already found out.
gf120+ canon 500D close up 72mm lens.
... very nice video, very informative ! I have got a question : how would you evaluate this GF50 lens when speed of auto-focus is concerned? I have watched a ton of videos here on UA-cam, and some say, that it is somehow slow or slower ... compared to other GF lenses (auto-focus speed average), like in the slower area of all the lenses from Fujifilm available, where (not my own experience), the GF80 is extremely slow here and GF 45-100 is pretty fast. What do YOU think about it?
My opinion is that all GF lens suck in the focus department. Which is slower, I have never bothered to notice, as i have general indifference there. This is presently a common with all MF cameras. Fuji just announced a firmware up grade for some of its lenses, the 50mm included. Then they promptly put the 50mm upgrade on hold. I did upgrade my 110mm (favourite all time lens) and the 32-64mm lenses, but never checked to see it there was ant noticeable difference.
Why not the Fuji 120 macro??
Because i dont own one.
Fuji HFD 100 has pixel shift 400 megs
Enjoyable video and explanation. As you know a lot about lenses I’m curious to pick your brain. I have the GFX 100s as well. I’d really like to have a 35mm focal length prime lens for the GFX (because I like the look of 28mm on full frame). Would be great to have tilt/shift and low barrel distortion. Any suggestions from you? Even if nothing T/S comes to mind, what would be your top recommendations?
Fuji is coming out with a 30mm PC lens later this year
Never seen a pro sharing his/her knowledge in such depth. Your channel is well deserved to recommend serious photographer around the world.
In 4 year time i will be 80. No point taking my hard earned knowledge to the grave. But thank you for you comment, as those make all the effort worth while
Diese ganze Prozedur würde mich in den Wahnsinn treiben - ganz zu schweigen von dem enormen Gewicht, das man mit herumschleppen müßte. Nein danke!
Yes You are correct , Photo is having fun . I will try your suggestion . Thank you to make me having Fun , I will take time to have it all and this is the deal .
Then you are on the right path.
I have a desire to buy this brand in the future,I think it will be nice for street photography.
Take you word for it. You will not regret it. Am just back from a month of street photography in Kyoto Japan with the cherry blossoms. Most all shot with 100S and 50mm
You are mad, brilliant, but utterly mad. (That was meant as a compliment)
...and thaken as such. 🙏🏻
I tried the aperture thing but all my E lenses just come off the camera with their aperture at f32 etc.
I have several notes but the main one is that when you did the shifting, you moved the lens instead of the camera body thus creating a small change in your lens position for each of the 9 frames meant to be stitched. Of course the software would have problems with that because you, as the user, created small differences in the stitching points for each shot. I’ve watched some of your other videos and you typically move the camera body which is the proper way to stitch. This is why if you stitch images with cameras such as the Alpa field cameras you always move the back and not the lens. I feel like this was a pretty unscientific and lazy video on your part and not particularly helpful for people who don’t know what I’m talking about.
