545 for the win

I'd say the 609 did the best job without coloring the sound. I think the 906 is a little hot probably not the best for cranked high gain amps but better for anemic sounding clean sound sources like quiet vintage amps to bring out the dynamics and color. The Behringer was like a wet blanket. The CAD was a little bright. I'd like to combine the CAD and the 609 or the CAD and the 906 in flat mode loud high gain guitars. 609 all day for Fender combo. Great comparison. Thank you!

For my ears the NT5 sounds absolutely cheapo. The others need different EQ, buu provide a nice base with the Oktava being my first choice.

I have the Superlux (for the road) and Behringer (in church) and this video convinced me to turn the high boost on the Behringer.

This is a helpful video but I do wonder why it was necessary to use an inline preamplifier? A lot of folks are going with the 441 but I want to say that there's a bit too much high end for my liking. I'm leaning more towards the sE's and RE20s on her voice. Two of my favorite mics, the M88 and 421, sound terrible here! lol. At any rate, thanks for putting this video together.

Listening to it without looking the one mic that finally made me look was the CAD Audio D80, each and every time.

Electro-Voice RE320 would have been somewhat immune to plosives like the RE20... without the mud. Shure SM27 would have been interesting to hear too... according to her voice...

Sennheiser is the standard the others try to be. 421 is an incredibly versatile mic.

545 SH is the best. And RE20...

Rode NT5 is the best mic in this video because it is the quietest mic, and it gives all details well. Especially se electronics and others should resolve the noise problem because it is so important in terms of acoustic sound. Rode have been satisfying customers for years because they know how to make a mic and they are honest when they give information about their products :) NT5 is quieter than se58. opss.. If you don't prefer Rode NT5, you're going to be regret like those who didn't prefer Rode NT5. I know, se58..etc have attractive boxes, interesting advertisement, new technology so you may think they are quality products, but their performances are not as good as NT5 :)

sE8 omni totally best, studio projects worst, metallic sounding, I use that one only for the click on bassdrum front skin rim placement.

Wow, the MD-441 is the only one that is truly in its own league. I am partial to the RE20 for dialogue, not sure about singing. It sounds similar to the M88 but not as dull and flat.

In this comparison maybe Oktava MK012 or Studio Projects C4 would sound better with bass rolloff enabled. Then they would sound perfect. Rode NT5 is loser in this comparison, too thin/flat/lacking in character/nondescript/boring.

They should have put more up 2 date shure beta 58 in the shootout because shure mics used about 60 yrs old

Rode is the last for me se and oktava kinda feel like they are on paar some things in the oktava that I would prefer differently some in the Se... Listening back. Cardoid Oktava > Cardoid SE, but Omni SE > Omni Oktava to me The winner to for me is the C4 I just really like how smooth it sounds

Oktava MK-012 with cardioid capsule brings better sense of presence like listening to an actual singer right next to me. I absolutely didn't expect such a significant difference right from the first word of the song.

LOVE THE OMNI sE!!!! Holy! A lil muddy yes.. but there is just some much yes outside of that in the sound xD

BEHRINGER B 906 vs Superlux PRA628 MKII for metal guitar sound from tube amp?

Too long did not read : Oktava or SE8, then NT5, and no C4 mkii for me. Okay, I listened blindtest the 4 microphones with the wav download. I listened to things at random, took some shameful notes as the random player put the same mic twice in a row and I could "hear differences" lol, but after lots of tests on 3 different headphones something stood out a few times. In my notes I contradicted myself a few times on the mics so I guess this is subjectivity, and this isn't a high scientific test, I could be wrong, I invite you to have a friend rename the files and do the blind test yourself ^^ Overall the Oktava and SE stood out to me. The Oktava as something very sharp and "clinical" in a good way. The Se sounded not as sharp but a little more "fun/warmer". I liked them both for different reasons. But they stood out as my favourites. I consistently noted the NT5 to have less lows, sometimes I worded it as "something missing" or "EQed". and very sharp/bright, not in a bad way just "clinical". But it was very good. Just compared to the Oktava they were very comperable but the Oktava had that little more sharpness and lows to it. I wouldn't go for the C4 mkii (especially now I see the price) I noted a few times that it sounded "thin" or "sad", some recordings (the singing) had a electonic humm to it. Overall it was my least favorite. Now knowing all this and considering price / budget. NT5 for 300€ a pair aren't my favorite but they're the cheapest and hold up well, I shall go for them ;D Id forget the C4. If it was 260€ or 300€ maybe id consider them. The SE8 and Oktava are a tight choice. I think if they costed the same price, id go with the Oktava they cost 60€ more (430€ vs 370) but do come with more accessories. However considering the SE8 is cheaper, and I found the sound more enjoyable most of the times (even if not as "sharp/clinical"), I better go with what I find most enjoyable for cheaper. Does seem like you get what you pay for in either case. This is my subjective tastes and my experiences, I had a hard time hearing differences and all in all they all sound very good. I encourage you to listen to them all in a blind test with random playback and see for yourself which one you like most, and if you agree or disagree with what I said here :D Would love to hear if you experienced it differently ^^ Cheers.
