Hello. I am Charles, a professional watchmaker. I have been making my living buying, restoring, and reselling watches on ebay (user ID FINETIMEPIECES) since 1999. My passion is refurbishing American pocket watches and repurposing movements that have had their cases scrapped for their precious metal content and making them into new wrist watches.
A rare blue numeral enamel dial is used on a size 12 Waltham Pocket Watch to make a 44mm wrist watch

Hello, can you achieve a water-resistant watch case with casting?
Yes, these have seals at all entry points and I have tested these to 1 bar which is 10 meters water resistance.
Legend!
Thank you
From experience, getting parts for Rolex watches is difficult and expensive. You paid more than it was worth given the damage, but you've made a great tube and have shown what is possible with the right skills and access to spares. I would definitely discourage people from buying watches rusted out, especially if they're prestigious watches.
What is an estimated cost of taking a antique waltham pocket watch, get it working and putting it into a wrist case? I'd love to do this for my dad's grandfathers watch that I've never seen run. He actually has 2
Thank you for my interest. See my web site at watchspot.net. Contact me there and send me pics of your movement and I'll see what you have,
Very helpful. Thank you!
I'd like to get the information on the reversing relay and the ultrasonic devices and drivers
If I get enough requests I'll make a video, but it is pretty simple. If you can put it together following a video you can figure it out with this info: Search ebay for 40kHz transducer and driver board. You only need 1 board and 3 transducers ($75). If you need/want bidirectional agitation I used an Omron H3CR ($35).
Bro I can’t believe it was this easy. Thank you so much. I was so hurt you just saved me so much 🙏
Glad it helped.
I would be very interested in the parts and wiring diagrams to make this happen. I take possession of my L&R master tomorrow.

Great video , keep em coming !!
Will do.
Interesting video. Thanks for posting. I have a Tiffany & Co. pocket watch, made my Patek Philippe from about 1872 or 1873. Every early serial number. Doesn’t have the “wolf’s teeth” on the ratch and crown wheels, and has a more 3/4 bridge. It has a long arm that rests over the crown to keep it from backing out. That arm is screwed down between the 3/4 and main plates, so you can’t tighten it from above. Has to be on when the bridges go together, although I can get to the locking screw between the plates with tweezers. Not screw down the entire way. But it causes problems trying to lock the stem in place inside a case. Not enough clearance to get into the side with tweezers. I’m also converting the Tiffany/Patek movement into a modern wrist watch, but am considering a hole/slit setup. To slide the entire movement and stem into the case together, then pressing the top and bottom cases closed. Not so much worried about making a water proof watch since I still need to notch the lever position for lever set. I’m thinking of keeping the original stem and onion, because if I cut the stem to shorten, if later I decide to buy an original Tiffany 18K gold case and convert back to a pocketwatch, I’ll be screwed. Looking now for a 2nd stem to cut.
Send me a pic if you want.
What a pleasure to watch this conversion, Tyler is a lucky dude. I missed it, did you use the original mainspring? I am also wondering if you make your own crown stems and if there are smaller cases for say a 00s movement. Great video as always!
On most Waltham and Hamilton movements I have found a source for modern white alloy mainsprings. For Elgin movements I have not. Elgin watches use such a heavy mainspring that they never seem to be weak (as you saw this 7 jewel movement ran with an amplitude of over 300 degrees on the original spring), and I have a pile of hundreds of scrap movements so I have plenty of replacements to choose from if I need one. Regarding the smaller watches I case size 0 movements in 36mm cases, size 6 movements in 40mm cases, size 10 movements in 42mm cases and size 12 movements in 44mm cases.
I'm curious where you get the cases. Loved the content here!
I start with a case for an ETA 6497 and modify it. There are no ready made wrist watch cases for size 12 pocket watches that I know of. See the video linked here. ua-cam.com/video/_uUbYqe31fo/v-deo.html

You are a life saver! I was so dissapointed that my Datejust bracelats don’t make a good snap and don’t hold it anymore that I almost start to cry. After 1 month of holding my watch in the box and prepare myself to go to the Rolex store to fix it, I found your video. I cannot thank you enough!

Perfect. I have an old submariner and it wouldn’t snap shut, I knew one of the trifolds needed bent a little but I couldn’t remember which one and if it was more or less curvature….now it has a nice, crisp snap to the closure. Thank you
Glad I could help!
I’ve recently came across a Tiffany’s open face ladies pocket watch. Serial number beginning with 72000’s. It stamped with Tiffany&co New York. And then another part just says Swiss. There is an engraving on the case that says 1895. I’m trying to figure out who the movement is by. Since Tiffany had other manufacturers including Longines, Ed Koehn, and Patek. Any ideas?
I have a Tiffany pocket watch movement on my bench right now, it is 77,xxx and it is very surely an Ed Koehn. Quality is on par with Patek though. Send me pics if you like.
Hi, After you snapped on the bezel, how is the movement being kept in place so it does not wobble? Kind regards
The bezel was cut so that the movement is a light friction fit wh3n pushed into it. Once the bezel gets popped into the case the friction increases. There is zero play between the movement and the case.
@@Watchspotnet alright, thank you!
Thank you for showing each step. Amazing work to fit them in modern cases.
Glad you like them!
Looks amazing
Thank you.
Actually, I have questions. I’ve recently come into a *very early Tiffany movement, and the serial number is well below 2000. While the train bridge looks a bit different, it says “Tiffany & Co. New York”. Very much a grey area I’m trying to understand. I *believe it’s a very early Tiffany / Patek movement. Says “fast / slow” in the same font, and even had the same type of dotted corrosion on it as the left side “Tiffany & Co Geneva” watch. Will look under the dial for any Tiffany stamps. Working on getting it into servicing.
Let me know if you find the T&Co stamp under the dial and if there are two different serial numbers under the dial. Message me directly with photos if you can.
@@Watchspotnet thanks, I appreciate your help. Looking forward to trying to figure it out. Pretty excited. Will reach out in a couple of days
Great Video. Can you clean a minute hand that got condensation on it? Brand brand new Rolex submariner.
If the metal only has spotting on it, probably. If the luminous has changed colors or stained there is not much to do for that unless you want the luminous repainted, which I don't recommend.
Wow!...malking your own case from scratch, and a very cool way to save and house a fine old case-less watch.
Glad you liked it!
Nice work!
Thanks!
Thanks for sharing I’ve used alum to get the same results but it took a bit longer I’d love to see a video of you replating it
It has already been replated, but I'll film the next one. I did file electroplating some screws in this video ua-cam.com/video/4HMoHD9OAjQ/v-deo.html at 14:32.
@@Watchspotnetthanks I’ve plated a few cases but it required a full strip back to bare metal I was curious to see what you do with a main plate as stripping to bare metal would be hard Do you just plate over the existing plate to cover the bare patches?
thanks, man!

Hi there - I am looking to do something similar with and A.Lange & Sohne WWII pocket watch. Any chance you could help me identify how i can find a custom case / dial manufacturer?
I'd love to work on a project like that. Message me directly with more information on your watch and let me see what we can do.
Thank you for showing how to do this. Where can I find citric acid?
I buy it online, but you should be able to pick it up at most supermarkets in the canning section (sold as sour salt) or at some hardware stores.
how does this compare to using alum?
I've never used alum but I've heard that the results are similar.
