Why I Regret Buying My M1 MacBook Pro
Переглядів 19 тис.3 роки тому
In this video, I cover the 5 reasons why I (kinda) regret buying my M1 MacBook Pro. Don't get me wrong, I still love my MacBook. That's why I said I kinda regret it. But since every tech UA-camr and their dog have been praising M1 Macs' performance to the skies, I figured I should express my honest opinion about it. That said, every argument in the video is based on my personal experience and o...

    This has PBP right? Do you ever use that? I'm looking for 1 monitor to stream from that would be able to play a game at 120hz still while having obs up on the same screen as well...

      I don’t use PIP/PBP, but it does have that feature and should work well for what you need :)

    I just got the curved version of this monitor, coming from a 27" 2k monitor. Huge difference of course! I watched your video because I was getting a bit frustrated by "black" looking "gray" on my monitor. Finally figured out to change the RGB range setting from auto (or 16-255) to 0-255. Now blacks look black. :) Thanks for this video.

    Mate this is awesome. Can you do a video or send a link to how to dial in the settings for this screen? Specifically settings for Macbook "work" and settings for pc "play?

    Hi this was really helpful especially the reddit link to the color calibration thanks! One question, it seems like adjusting the user define colors makes it a bit less bright. Did you find this? Even though its technically meant to be 350 nits it just does not get as bright or seem to match the colors to the macbook the same way that my wife's LG 27UN880p does. Also, don't yet have a PS5/Xbox Series X but thinking about getting one - how big a difference is 60fps vs 120fps? Does it really make that much difference? Thanks!

    • @kimkoh
      @kimkoh 3 місяці тому

      I just compared sRGB with my Custom profile at the same brightness and I think they have the same brightness. Though I'd say sRGB appears a bit brighter due to the warmer color tone, but I believe they're equally bright in reality. For the next question, I guess it depends the type of games you play. Unfortunately, I haven't played enough (high-FPS) games to be able to answer it, lol. The ones I did play run 60 FPS max.

    Also, is the KVM switch a true KVM switch where the computer doesn't think it lost a connection, or do these act like a simple switch and the computer thinks a new monitor was hooked up each time?

    • @kimkoh
      @kimkoh 4 місяці тому

      I’ve never used a KVM switch before, but like I mentioned in the video, the monitor has issues detecting signal from the other input when it’s inactive or even in sleep mode. When switching from Windows to Mac - if the Mac is in deep sleep, I have to press the on/off button on the Mac Studio to wake it up and vice versa. So perhaps it’s not a “true” KVM switch then?

    • @user-uh5hf4qx5g
      @user-uh5hf4qx5g 4 місяці тому

      @@kimkoh yeah true KVM switches are crazy expensive and it's because they maintain that connection -- or atleast they convince your computers that they're still connected, then it just swaps out the signal as needed. So you could have 3 comps and 1 monitor and all 3 think a monitor is hooked up to them simultaneously (but only 1 controls the actual signal). I think it's called EDID emulation.

    Do you have any issues with audio pass-thru? Are you passing audio into the monitor via the video signals and then passing it back out via the 3.5mm stereo minijack? I'm planning a similar setup to you, but with a desktop PC, a Dell laptop and a Macbook Pro M1. My plan is to run: - Macbook Pro M1 into a dock that supports DisplayPort over usb-c, then from the dock into the monitor via usb-c - Dell laptop into a Dell dock via USB-C then from the dock to the monitor via HDMI w/ audio - Desktop PC directly into the monitor via HDMI w/audio Then the plan is to simply run a 3.5mm stereo cable from the monitor to my speakers. Will that work under this model?

    • @kimkoh
      @kimkoh 4 місяці тому

      The speakers I use (Logitech G560) run on a USB connection so I’m not using the audio jack for speakers. I do use it for headphones, though, and it works fine on both macOS and Windows. In theory, your setup should work but I can’t be sure since I haven’t done so.

      Hey, thanks for the welcome. 5 Minute Journal is my first app for journaling. I'd tried physical journaling for a bit but never stuck it out. I just made it a habit to jot down 3 things to be grateful for and a simple reflection at night before sleep - I keep it simple so it's easy to follow through. If you can get through the first few weeks, it's usually easy to keep going :)

    Great list! Love and appreciate the links to the video and apps! To answer your question: Text Sniper - I use it every day, countless times. If I download images (quotes, memes) and want to name them, I can press [spacebar] to get a preview, use Text Sniper (I set it to ⌘+⇧+1) to grab relevant text, then paste it into the file name. The MacOS text feature is great but doesn't handle multiple lines well; it can't be pasted into a file name (I assume it contains invisible characters). Text Sniper also let's you choose whether or not to keep line breaks. 1Password is great. I switched over from LastPass earlier this year and am very happy with the move. 1Password is significantly easier to use. And it imported everything from LastPass quickly and easily. Bartender is great. I think I finally need to check out Alfred. Thank you again!

    Are you still using Canary Mail? I try to love it, but some bugs are really annoying. Sendet attachments are corrupt, so that the recipient can't open it, mails don't appear in the inbox after snooze and 90% of the newsletters pass the smart inbox feature. Their support isn't helpful as well. Some bugs I reported 9 month ago and they still didn't fix them, after a bunch of updates.😕
