    Ok, I'll start with the ending: the mice turned out great! Honestly, the imperfections you see give them character and make them unique-I wouldn’t mind receiving a gift like this (I don’t mind the ghost attached). Lucia is such a beautiful tradition. Yeah, the origins trace back to southern Italy, but she’s not really celebrated there beyond the saint’s name. You guys have truly made this celebration your own!😍 Loved the video-it was so relaxing to watch. I really enjoyed how you wove a bit of history into it. ❤ 💪

      Haha, thanks! It was so much fun (but sticky!). It's truly so cool how different traditions are within this little continent. It's one of my favourite things about being European. Are you celebrating anything special? And thank you for the encouragement 🙈 Would like to tell more stories and do more "history lite" in the future, this was a bit of a rest to see how I could work it in with the making 😊 ❤️

      @ Absolutely, it worked very well. Many people enjoy watching videos while working on something else, so storytelling is definitely a great approach. Where I live, winters are gloomy, and the landscape feels like it’s straight out of “The Others”. There are ghost and witch stories tied to the area. Christmas isn’t very unique here, but the Befana, celebrated in January, is popular across Italy. She’s a witch who brings candy to good kids and coal to naughty ones.

      @@rampant.hare.illustrations it still sounds dreamy with a gloomy Christmas among that lovely Italian architecture. Here in the south of Sweden we don't get as much snow either, but I like a "gothic Christmas". I hope you have a wonderful holiday season ✨ I look forward to your next video 😊

    First of all, the Christmas decorations turned out really pretty! The acorns feel so Scandinavian, especially with those colors-they really give off that vibe. As someone who "struggles" xD just like you, I have to say I love watching your videos. They just hit home for me. Although I’m deeply into illustration and don’t have much time for anything else, I really enjoy it when people share more than just their main skill... I hope I’ll have the courage to do that someday too. Maybe we can both get inspired to create something like a vlog-a week of creativity or something similar. It doesn’t have to be anything big, just sharing our days and how we tackle things. I think a lot of people would connect with that, not just other creators, but viewers too. UA-cam has so many videos with unrealistic daily goals and perfect setups. While I do enjoy pretty things (who doesn't), sometimes they just feel fake. They’re nice to look at, but they’re not realistic. When the video ends, it’s hard to carry that feeling into real life because it’s not achievable...

    • @josiemakes
      @josiemakes 24 дні тому

      I am always so taken aback by your comments, you are such an incredibly thoughtful person! And I really do like what you put out too. Your art, the themes you paint, your storytelling and your voice all feel very familiar. I think as long as you enjoy what you do, there's no need to push yourself to do something different if it doesn't feel true to you. Though, of course it would be fun to see how you tackle that 😊 I totally agree, UA-cam as a platform is great but easy to get caught up in trends or how others do their videos. I certainly feel pressured to make it shiny and neatly wrapped up. I want to remain authentically me, while still spreading my wings and trying stuff. I'm working on balance haha ... I would love to see a week in your life! Would be fun to take on the same challenge like that and exchange notes on how it went x

    • @rampant.hare.illustrations
      @rampant.hare.illustrations 24 дні тому

      @@josiemakes You’re absolutely right about the UA-cam rabbit hole. I personally find the technical side of UA-cam overwhelming at times. As you mentioned, it takes a lot of time to prepare, let alone stay genuinely creative and approach your ideas with the same enthusiasm you had when planning the video. I once heard someone say, “If you get bored by your own video, viewers will too.” While that might not apply to everyone, I’ve definitely noticed that pattern-especially with time lapses. That’s partly why I want to diversify my content. I tried in the past, but it felt a bit lonely and awkward, which didn’t help. That’s actually one of the things I love about your videos-you manage to come across as so easygoing, even though I’m sure it’s not always easy. At the end of the day, we’re all in the same boat. I hope you’ll keep creating your amazing content, and as always, thank you for your kind words! Whenever I feel stuck, I know I can count on you to give me motivation. 😊

    • @josiemakes
      @josiemakes 23 дні тому

      Totally. I was making videos years ago, very sporadically, but haven't been able to stick to a consistent routine until this year and it's because in the past it was overwhelming and I was expecting myself to be perfect from the start. It's only now, since I am accepting that I'm learning something new with each video - I'm not expecting top quality in both the video and it's content - that it's becoming easier to just do. But it also depends on the week and day that I'm filming, some weeks confidence is loooow. I do fear people getting bored, and I cut out a lot of stuff that is probably fine to keep. Would like to challenge myself to leave more room to breathe. Thank you for saying that, you motivate me too! ❤️

    So I made myself a cup of tea, saw your video notification, and thought, “Oh nice, perfect combo.” But at one point, I was like, “Wait, who the heck is she talking about?” 😂 Thanks, Josie! Just wait till I share my favorite art books and the person who inspired me to make that video. 😅 Regarding your art piece-first of all, acrylics are pure evil 😂 They’re so hard to master, but you’re doing great! They actually suit your comic style really well. Also, I’ve got a few pieces myself that didn’t make it into my “aesthetically pleasing” portfolio. I once spent a whole day studying one of Da Vinci’s famous angels (just the face). After hours of work, I remember asking myself, “What’s the point of doing this?” I actually felt pretty down that day. It ended up in my forgotten drawer. But looking back now, I think it was okay. Not every piece needs to be ‘the’ piece, and not everything has to go online. Sometimes, just the decision to make it is enough to give it meaning.

    • @josiemakes
      @josiemakes Місяць тому

      Haha, if anything this just goes to show that everyone is different, I think acrylics are easier than watercolours - which you obviously use masterfully! 😅 I totally agree with you, I don't share everything I make and I don't make everything to share either. But you know, there's a lot of excellent artists with original thoughts and sometimes I slip into comparing myself to others. I guess everyone does 😅 but yeah, I've probably learned the most from my "failed" art than any of the good ones! Definitely keeping "the decision to make it is enough to give it meaning" above my desk. That's such a good motto.

    I talk to my critic voices. I say things like, "Oh, shut up, I'm having fun" or "Tell me about that later when it's time to improve a few things about this" or "Awe, you always say that - even when I get something really cool done." It seems to help, both to keep me working - and working more happily - and to mellow the voices. If a voice is really hostile, like "You're a complete failure," I just say back, "You lie."

    Preach, sister! Looks like we’re into the same stuff. Did I understand correctly that you live in Malmö? I’ve been there briefly on my way to Copenhagen (yeah, the usual route), and I remember how cemeteries are basically part of the city landscape. They’re such great places to hang out and clear your mind. I totally agree about overthinking projects-sometimes, even if an idea doesn’t seem brilliant, it’s still worth exploring and accepting it for what it is. After all, it’s part of our growth. Also, I want that cat's butt on a t-shirt!😂

As usual your videography and audio is great and the art itself too. I also really enjoy the slow pace. actually an ammendment, I think I have done some forms of practice though accidentally. I went on holiday a year or so ago and only had one blue watercolour tube. I’ve been binge-watching all your videos, and I have to say, I absolutely love the vibe you bring and your personality. Your commentary is always spot on! I don’t want to put any pressure on you, but you should definitely keep making more content. I’ve had so many of the same thoughts you’ve shared. I went to art school and didn’t get the best guidance. I ended up graduating in Art History instead and spent a lot of my life feeling that emptiness and pressure, questioning if I was ever good enough with what I was creating. Recently, I managed to break free by embracing what I love and realizing that I don’t need to fit in with my art. I know that eventually, I’ll find the people who resonate with what I create. I decided to go back to basics, focusing on art studies, and slowly but surely, things started to change. Just like you, I began revisiting/collecting art books, immersing myself in art, and creating my own artistic bubble. At the end of the day, what really matters is letting go of the overthinking, embracing what you love, telling the stories you want to tell, and continuing to practice your craft. Everything will align in time. And it all makes sense. Even if sometimes it doesn’t feel like it. ❤

    Every Summer, I have 6 weeks off. And every year I am cleaning, reorganizing and throwing stuff out room by room, and I finish projects that I've abandoned (or throw them out if I'm no longer interested). Usually, I do a chore in the morning and a creative hobby in the afternoon. This yearly clear-out really brings my mind at ease.

    Lovely video. I do so many things, it's hard to prioritize sometimes. I don't describe myself as an illustrator anymore, but an overall creative or crafter, because how do you summarise being an illustrator, a writer, an embroiderer, a UA-camr, a painter...? Good luck with all your projetcs!

    Loved this video. I'm writing a novel atm and found the same rules apply. Doing nothing and letting the brain rest makes your work much more meaningful. Thank you for sharing x

      Aw, thank you for taking the time to comment 💙 Absolutely, I think most people would benefit, were so inundated with information all the time. Good luck with your writing!

    Seeing a small video with this much quality is always amazing. I clicked this video thinking it was about doing more, being a polymath extera. Rather than getting what I wanted, affirmation that working more on all different projects I have music writing art ext would be good, I instead got what I probably needed more, told to calm down and enjoy life more so when I do make art I can put more into it. I think we often have to learn these lessons again and again. A few months ago when I was releasing a song a week and working on publishing multiple different books, among blogs and other various projects I burned out really badly and seemed to place the blame not on doing too much but rather on stopping. I felt so strongly that I should be able to do all that. This video really helped focus one thing about burnout and such. It is less an issue of doing too much but the lack of downtime and relaxing between it all. Anyway wonderful video, great pacing, great editing and thoughrouly relatable. Cant wait to see more from you and this channel

      Oh my gosh, thank you so much for taking the time to comment! Is there a place I can listen to your music? I literally had this conversation with a friend yesterday: that we have to keep learning the same lessons over and over. And I definitely relate to being so stuck in the mindset that "resting is the problem". I truly believe we become better creatives when we step away from our art. Wishing you all the best and hoping you have a wonderful summer.
