    Wow, so Cola got a hankering for human poop laced with drugs - random?

    • @ridgelineoutdooradventure
      @ridgelineoutdooradventure 2 дні тому

      Maybe not that random. We met some other “BC Folk” down at the campground in Lincoln City and we described our ordeal. They said their dog had those symptoms twice, and it turned out to be drugs - ingested from human poop. That explains why something in the truck stunk like sh!t after our break where Cola took off for a few minutes. That was not a fun experience, and no, we do not laugh about it now.

      I don’t generally review tech unless I have something outstanding. My MagSafe chargers in the truck and house were just basics from Amazon during their Prime Days in October. That said - you may be onto something here, as I’m also using MagSafe to connect to my new DJI OSMO 6 Gimbal. Hmmm…I have a lot of videos in the queue, and several on deck, but I think I’ll add this to the list. Thanks for the suggestion!

      @ridgelineoutdooradventure if is bracket that wrap around the clips on the cars dash garnish. You can also get the extension arm. That brings your phone away from the a/c. I would love to know your thoughts. Also they have dash cams for the ridgeline. Fitcamx in particular. I'd also be curious what you think about that.

      My favourite part about my setup is having the phone right next to my 11” Kenwood Head Unit. This way I can use my phone with a greater degree of safety and legality as it’s mounted, it’s centrally located, and I can rest my hand on the Kenwood screen to operate my phone. On the hottest of days I will raise the height of the phone to allow more air to flow through the vent. As for dashcams I’m no expert. I have a JS Innovations unit about the size of a golf ball tucked up behind my mirror. Most of the time I forget that it’s even there!

      You hear too much! Best I can tell I bang the front end on one of those dunes. The grill got pushed up and the trim right by the hood is now slightly bowed and was preventing me from opening the hood. I had to use a screwdriver to release the hood latch, then remove the garnish over the radiator. At some point, I will need to remove the whole grill and possibly part of the bumper and massage everything downwards a quarter of an inch.

      As much as I love bacon, I guess I would be lying if I said it was always the answer. My typical camp breakfast, at least if I’m cooking in the back country involves sausage patties. Way less splatter and mess to clean up, especially if I’m cooking on my tailgate. ROBS - Ridgeline Overlanding breakfast stack Now that I say that out loud and I’m thinking of changing my channel name, I’m gonna have to come up with a new name for my breakfast sandwich. I hooked up the trailer to bring it back to his place and I thought the trailer was sitting properly on the ball… And it was fine all the way across town to his house… Then I backed the quad off the trailer and The tongue popped off the ball and caught my tailgate on the way up! Yeah, that kind of sucked!

    Actually you don't need all terrain tires for sand. Just highway tires to be honest.

    • @ridgelineoutdooradventure
      @ridgelineoutdooradventure 23 дні тому

      you could say the same thing about snow… You can get away with regular all seasons - but snow tires are better. I went back to this beach this past summer and drove with no problem because I stayed on the packed sand Where I ended up in trouble here is I went uphill up the beach in deep sand and lost my speed. Also, the traction control was working against me, and I didn’t wanna fight with it, so I just used it as an opportunity to film a traction board recovery and get some practice.

  • @explorer2945
    @explorer2945 25 днів тому

    So how would you fix the rubbing on the passport? I just bought a passport and I’m aching to take it off-road but I don’t feel safe with such low profile tires on the 20 inch rims.

    • @ridgelineoutdooradventure
      @ridgelineoutdooradventure 25 днів тому

      The rubbing only happens with the wheels, fully cranked in reverse. Eventually, I will trim the fender liner and possibly grind the pinch weld. i’ve been dealing with this problem for three years on my Ridgeline, but because the rubbing happens so frequently, I just haven’t done more than a bit of trimming. I would not feel comfortable on more than a easy gravel road with those 20 inch wheels. You need to be able to air down to minimize your chances of getting a flat tire and maximize your traction. You can’t air down very much with the 20s. If you wanna spend time in the backcountry, you’re gonna need to go to 17 or 18 inch wheels.

    • @explorer2945
      @explorer2945 25 днів тому

      @ yeah, almost all of the vids here on UA-cam show pretty much exclusively 18 inch wheels. I saw one vid with 17 inch wheels but there looks to be a more reliable market for 18 inch wheels with all terrains on them. Would you happen to know what the long term effects would be with the rubbing issue? It’s not like I would exclusively be driving my passport off road but I’d hate to take a sharp corner and damage something if the rubbing is too much, granted, it is nice to know that the rubbing takes place in reverse.

    • @ridgelineoutdooradventure
      @ridgelineoutdooradventure 25 днів тому

      The reason a bunch of us have rubbing is because we went to an oversized tire. If you went up a half size, for example, 255/6018 you would not rub, but this is a very uncommon size. The reason mine rubs more than most is that I also bought aftermarket rims with 35 offset, so this actually pushes the tires out for a better look, but it is ironically, causing more rubbing. Use a wheel with a 45 offset, let the tire wear away the fender liner a little bit, and don’t worry about it. For maximum off-road potential, you want the 17 inch rim. For a good blend of on road and off-road handling, obviously the 18.

    • @ridgelineoutdooradventure
      @ridgelineoutdooradventure Місяць тому

      Avoid my mistake in just raising the front with a levelling kit. People do it for looks but it’s not practical at all. First off, the 1.5” lift isn’t enough for any real adventuring, and the rear needs to be raised as well otherwise you end up with sagging under load, and ruining your tailpipes when doing cross ditches and other steep stuff. I highly recommend the HRG 2.5 / 2.0” lift. You can go bigger, but this is a sweet spot unless you are trying to really “wheel” your Ridgeline. Also get a rear hitch slider. A funny looking device that goes into the hitch and hangs down so you slide on it instead of on your hitch, bumper or tail pipes. Enjoy your rig!

      I was able to keep all of the stereo functions such as Bluetooth and steering wheel control. Functions lost would be the advanced menus that were controlled by the stock deck. Things like comfort and convenience advance settings such as how long the interior lights would stay on after you lock the car. Door lock, and unlock settings, and a bunch of other things that I not only don’t remember, but would never really change once they set where I want them. If I ever needed to make any changes, I would just have to pop the Kenwood deck out, plug in the old deck, make the changes and then swap back. Probably a 90 minute process. I’m 99% certain I’ll never have to do that.

This is April as everything is starting to melt. No, if you had much larger tires on your grand Cherokee that would help. The Ridgeline is awesome! We have an F-150 and an AWD car that I will be trading in for a Ridgeline soon. All the trash talk about the Ridgeline is crazy because it vs. a body on frame truck are different vehicles for different purposes and have their pros and cons. The Ridgeline's AWD system will do much better on different road conditions such as rain and snow and will not fishtail as easily (if at all). The FWD bias will help it corner better on mountain roads. The videos of you offroading yours are seriously impressive. If you need to tow 10k lbs or do extreme off-roading you'll need the traditional 4WD.

    • @ridgelineoutdooradventure
      @ridgelineoutdooradventure 2 місяці тому

      You can still build a really good system around the stock deck on the higher trim Ridgelines. I started out that way, and then after a year decided to upgrade the deck. The stock deck has a tuning flaw that is beyond aweful so my shop had to get real creative to bypass the Honda signal. It meant running my phone directly into the aftermarket DSP and Amps, while also being connected to the head unit for Apple Car Play functions.

      @@ridgelineoutdooradventure same here brother I got 265/60r 18 nitto grapplers and 3 inch lift kit with 1.75 inch spacers. It rubs when I do a full u turn and reverse. I was hoping that if I get the axle relocated that would help stop the rubbing. What are your thoughts on that?

    • @ridgelineoutdooradventure
      @ridgelineoutdooradventure 2 місяці тому

      @A1r1k1 the biggest culprit in your setup is the wheel spacers. The way the Honda unibody forms in the wheel wells, it makes the rubbing worse to decrease wheel offsett (as i did) or add spacers as you did. I’ve thought about the axle relocation kit, but I think you have to trim out your bumper and/or wheel well as you simply shifting the problem area from back of wheel well to front. If you want even bigger tires then the axle relocation is needed. I’m just not interested in bigger tires, meaning more weight, loss of power and increased fuel consumption. The truck gets me most places I want to go and is still a really good daily driver…I don’t want to upset that fine balance.

      @@ridgelineoutdooradventure I added the spacers for the aggressiveness which I do like but I’m fine chopping some plastic vs metal off.

      @A1r1k1 I’m sure it looks great with the spacers!

    You go solo a lot. Not much of a “group run” guy?

      Definitely not a fan of group runs. It’s like taking traffic with you into the back country. I do like getting out with friends but more-often-than-not our schedules don’t synch up. (And a do have a habit of taking off on a last-minute weekday adventure.)
