Independence from North Carolina would have given DLS a very good game anywhere from 2000 to 2005. Indy had a much better passing game than what either DLS or Poly showed in either of these 2 matchups. I think depending on the year DLS probably beats Indy but Indy would score at least 4 TDs on them. Indy was just on a different level offensively and just had playmaker after playmaker at every position on offense and their coach was an offensive genius.
Many a great program has claimed the same, only to be shocked at the speed and strength of the O-Line. Long Beach Poly was touted as one of the most "talented" teams in high school, and they were absolutely shut out. Remember, DLS linemen played both ways. Poly had two fresh lines, and they racked up a whopping 6 yards rushing in the first half at Berkeley. I recall Independence being very prominent in those years, but the deal was never made. I don't believe Indy was ever ranked in the top 5 back then, so maybe that's why DLS didn't play them. It's quite an undertaking to fly around the country playing high school football, and when you're #1, you just can't accommodate every program that thinks they have the formula to take out the King of the hill.
@ZOANOM agreed on alot of your points. I think DLS wins most years against Indy in that time had they matched up, possibly Indy beats them in 2001 if lucky, but Indy 2004 would have absolutely beaten DLS in 2004. 2004 was Indys best team and DLS worst team. 2003 Indy would have beaten Evangel Chritian just as bad as DLS did. I watched that game. People think Indy was just a flash in the pan but they also had superb coaching and a system in place by Tom Knotts, who is pretty much doing the same now at Dutch Fork in South Carolina, winning championship after championship there now after departing Indy. Indy had likely the greatest passing game ever seen in High School and had SEC QBs Chris Leak and Joe Cox for 5 straight years and had NFL receivers Hakeem Nick's and Mohammed Massaqoui. They broke nearly every passing record in the books. And they always had two stellar RBs at the time, and also a very underrated stingy defense.
These teams were awesome back then. In those days it was DLS, Poly, Loyola & Mater Dei consistently going to the division 1 CIF championship. I believe these teams would beat up today's teams with their physicality.
No, not these days. Mater Dei and St. John Bosco, due to the new transfer rule, have become college teams.
@@samson9535wait I’m sry plz explain this rule
@@ItsJustMarc99Public schools have very strict transfer guidelines while Charter and Private schools are somewhat above ruling. It’s why you see a lot of HS kids transferring across the globe to IMG, Mater Dei, John Bosco, Bishop Gorman ETC.
Hey Zoanom! Do you have the De LA Salle Documentary "Perfect Effort"?
I don’t think I do. If I have it, I would have posted it.
I watched this and the Kahuku game on TV. Kahuku was huge but so slow compared to LB Poly. I thought STL held their own and they were much bigger than DLS, but it was amazing how quick DLS was. DLS was like that mythical team you hear about but to see them actually play was something else.
Aloha me my dad and twin brother was at this game. Special team won the game for DLS. Basically the kicking game
Well, the offense did score 31 points.

Kudos to Tim O'Hara, Rachel Morse, Jessica Ringel, Gavin Davis and the whole production team! That was a whole lot of work, with an excellent outcome. - Shari Dyer DLS Athletic Hall of Fame videographer and editor.
I hope they are all doing well these days. I spent many hours talking to Tim, and found the documentary to be absolutely genuine and revealing. This timeframe, for a father, was an amazing period of memories that will last a lifetime. Thank you for all you do in the Hall of Fame.
@@ZOANOM Thanks for your reply and support. The work is not easy, but the inductees are always amazing people. It's my honor - and this time (Oct. 1) Lad and Terry Eidson are being inducted. I'm delighted!
Do either of you know where I can find the "Perfect Effort." documentary?
@@billwilliams4877 I don't - sorry.

Do you have Poly vs Kahuku
I don’t, unfortunately. I was at the game, but didn’t record it. Fox Sports Net might have it in an archive somewhere…
@@ZOANOM wish Hart of Newhall and DLS would have played , especially 98-07
Any chance you have the highlight tapes from the 1999-2000 season?
I don’t think so. The ones I have would be from JV. I’ll have to do some digging. If I have anything I’ll post it here.
That touchdown pass from Cecil to Colvin was the dagger in the heart for Poly.
My favorite part of that play was Cameron's point to the sky for his mother, who had recently passed.
Poly offense was nonexistent
Yes, DLS shut them down. 6 yards rushing at halftime.
This was my team. 2002 was a year of Redemption. Cal Lee gone... Coach Tengan at the helm. Kahuku standing tall as the champs for the past 2 years. Everyone on the islands saying Saint Louis was done, no more Koas or banners now that the Red Raiders had it all. In my recollection, they also got hammered by Long Beach Poly in the early game. Anyways even with the loss a return to dominance with a 35-14 victory over the Castle "Black Knights" at the 2002 HHSAA State Title game showed our best days were not behind us. Always remember the end our QB Bobby G handling business when they jumped over the line before the snap.. Took care of business that night and returned another Koa and banner to the rugged slopes of Kalaepohaku..
Amazing program, and a classy organization. The halftime show was better than anything I’ve seen at the NFL level. What an absolutely incredible trip it was for us.
Saint Louis got stomped the following week by Kamehameha. Kahuku was a very young team as well in '02. Funaki and Pula were the horses for those 2 state title teams. This was the last good team for Saint Louis before Cal Lee returned years later.
Viewed the entire video without a bathroom break. Total respect for the tradition. We've been Spartan fans since 2000. And this comes from us folks here in the high desert of Victorville, CA.
Rest in peace, Jim.
Who has 2004 MV vs DLS footage
I wanna see this as well, 2003 Hart vs Mission Viejo,
DLS had the horses at the skill positions back in the day. Colvin and Fitzgerald came up big at WR when necessary and MJD needs no explanation.
Refreshing to see this, as the ‘Green Machine’ has been less than spectacular this season 😔
Let’s hope they can win state this year and end the drought
Great footage from this channel. I think DLS was a good 10 years ahead of the competition during the Streak. Even Mater Dei was behind. Everyone's caught up to DLS now... ...Everyone except Pittsburg.
They’ll be back, this school has vast resources, it’s just a matter of time.
@@bJT42 DLS has the resources but not the desire to be a *football school*. As long as Coach A keeps the players doing community service, getting good grades and going to college, that is all DLS wants out of the program. The school isn't going to go out of its way to win football championships.
@@marcvslicinivscrassvs7536 very few outside the program are aware of this. They really aren't a football school.
Thanks for posting this! I still have mine on VHS, as well as DVD… just too lazy to upload 😂 I also have the 2002 DLS vs. LBP game at Berkeley somewhere… just have to look for it
Here you go ua-cam.com/video/REF2bnI2fX0/v-deo.html
You don't happen to have a copy of "1", the documentary movie that was made during the 2002 season, do you?
@@ZOANOM I don't... I only have the DVD of "Perfect Effort". I did find this a couple years ago though: ua-cam.com/video/X_EYeDZ4atU/v-deo.html
@@poipoundah Yeah, I’ve seen just about everything online. If I can find my copy, I’ll upload it. I’m biased because I’m in the movie, but I think it’s the best documentary made about the Spartans from the inside.
LB and De La Selle should of played kahuku and st louis in 2001. Those were there better years than 2002
Wouldn’t have mattered. DLS would still have destroyed them. 2002 was much more exciting because it was supposed to be a “down year” for DLS, but it turned out to be one of the best teams throughout the Streak. I think St Louis avoided DLS in the previous years and thought they would be able to win against the Spartans after many of their D1 bound players graduated. Didn’t work out so well.
@@ZOANOM no one will ever know. LB pretty much played Kahuku’s jv team since they lost all their starters to graduation the previous year. St louis loss to kahuku 2 yrs in a row before this year and they had a way better team with Timmy chang and what not. It would’ve definitely been a more competitive game for Poly and DLS and possibly even a loss. 2002 Kahuku and St louis were definitely rebuild years for them.
@@redboylegend1262 Yeah, yeah, you’re preaching the same old sermon that every team in the country preached during those years. DLS beat them all, and kept beating them. Poly was supposed to destroy DLS a few weeks after this game, and they got shut out 28-7, with a gimme score late. Sorry, all the “coulda, woulda, shoulda was addressed.
@@ZOANOM 🤣😂🤣😂 Your Worng!
@@TheTylerjoy04 *You’re
That St. Louis Honolulu team with Olin Kruetz, Dominic Raiola, and Chris Fuamata-Maafala (all 3 made the NFL) should have played a top rank team in the nation.
I think the '02 team was ranked in the top five when De La Salle (#1 at the time) played them in this game.
Yeah 94-95 stlouis team was stacked!! I couldn't see any mainland team beating stlouis those years...
@@Uso37 Hart played @ St Louis in 1995 and lost a close 1 score game where Hart did not play its best ball, Hart went 13-1 in 1994 losing to Antelope Valley in the Championship, and they went 13-1 or 12-2 in 1995 winning CIF at the time, Since Coach Cal Lee arrived in 1982, St. Louis has lost only one nonleague game. That was in 1990, a 40-0 rout at the hands of Canyon, Hart’s Foothill League rival.
@@brighthought11I remember that STL-Canyon game. I just read about it in the paper the next day, it was shocking, especially since STL had been dominant for so long in Hawaii. I wonder if STL had a bad game, Canyon had a great game, or Canyon was just that much better, or maybe a combination.
Machine like is an understatement, this De La Salle squad was the face of the high school national championship, easily the best coached program in the nation.
Rest in Peace, Jim... Thanks for the great racing.
Some dirty play by St. Louis on a lot of instances. I'm sure they were frustrated getting outphysicaled by a smaller team.
WOW, I never thought I would find video of this game lol, thank you for uploading it. What an incredible streak, 12 consecutive perfect seasons, 151 straight wins, I don't think we will ever see another streak like that again in high school football. I think people may still be talking about this streak next century lol.
do you have the Kahuku LBP game?
Sorry, I don’t. I don’t think it was televised. Poly put a pretty good beating on Kahuku if I recall.
It’s was televised doing earlier the days, LB Poly beat Kahuku 42-16.
It was televised... I remember thinking, "Damn... (Long Beach-Poly) is fast!! Hawaii high school football doesn't see that kind of speed!!" What I really admired about DeLasalle at the time, was their discipline. They were a fine tuned machine...
I was at this game with a buddy of mine...
My son was the quarterback for DLS. Talk about pressure.
@@ZOANOM Okay that's what's up. By chance do you have both games of DLS vs Monta Vista from 2009 and their first state title game?
@@IRON5 Sorry, I sure don’t. My era with DLS was from ‘99-‘02, when my son played there. When they lost in ‘03 up in Washington and wnded the Streak, I kinda lost touch.
@@ZOANOM Your son was definitely one of the best DLS ever had. He stepped up big time and kept the Streak going.
@@marcvslicinivscrassvs7536 It was a magical season, for sure. A lifetime of memories.
The St. Louis head coach was an idiot for trying to play smash mouth football in the Run&Shoot offense.
To be fair, every team DLS faced in those years assumed they could smash the far smaller DLS O-Line. What they didn't understand is the speed, strength and leverage that DLS taught was the secret behind their success. No D-Line EVER beat the DLS O-Line off the ball.
Nothing like miles of curvy mountain roads and an FJ underneath you! :D
