7 ICONIC HALO 3 MOMENTS Recreated with my poor and very long writing skills. 4. WE ARE FORERUNNER Part #2 Something happened then, something that was a long time coming for this ancient A.I. He snapped, realizing now that all the planning, all the patience, all the years he wasted on that ringworld waiting for his makers had been for nothing. Now understanding the reclaimers true intentions, one thought ran through the circuitry of the furious monitor. ‘I won’t let this all be for nothing. I won’t!’ Flickering like that of a TV screen, Spark's calming blue eye changed into that of an angry violent red, with a deep fiery orange filling the center. ‘Sacrifices must be made, for the good of the mission. For the survival of our legacy.’ That's what his makers told him, and he intended to carry out that idea. By any means necessary. Turning his hell blazing eye on that of the wounded sergeant, it was no question to the monitor what he would do next. Suddenly, a powerful and brutal beam streamed out of the eye of the furious monitor, and seared through the kevlar protecting Johnson’s chest. The scream was beyond painful, with the fire sound of the laser being drowned out by the yells of the victim. Upon hearing the ear piercing yell, the Chief turned around and saw the horrible event play out before him. It was only five seconds long, but those five seconds felt like five hours. Five hours of time, with the Chief being hopeless to stop them. He could see the blood drain from the once joyous face. He could smell the smoke and blood escaping the torso of the body. He could feel the immense heat of the Forerunner energy beam. He could even hear the sounds of shattering bones and vaporized organs erupting from the hole within Johnson. Once the screams were over and the Chief and Arbiter fully registered what just happened, the monitor turned its red and intense gaze to the two heroes. 343 Guilty Spark: Unacceptable! Unacceptable! Absolutely unacceptable! With the speed of a fox, the Chief rushed to Johnson's aid only for the immense pressure of Sparks energy beam to fling him backwards onto the glass catwalk. Dazed and injured by the monitor's attack, the Spartan struggled to push himself up from his current position. At this very moment the Spartan wanted to do nothing more than rip out Sparks eye and kick it into the stratosphere, but the approaching A.I., along with his weakened state from the force of the blast, and the lack of shields thanks to the previous attack convinced the Chief to stay down for now. The monitor shook violently with anger as it neared the cracked visor of the Spartan, heat and steam emanating from his red eye. 343 Guilty Spark: Protocol dictates action! I see now that helping you was wrong! While Guilty Spark continued to unload his resentment and frustration onto the winded Master Chief, the Arbiter, knowing that the oracle was distracted, readied his Carbine and aimed it at the A.I. 's shiny casing. Noticing the sudden movements near the doorway, 343 Guilty Spark merely blasted the Elite warrior across the catwalk and into the sealed gateway. With his shields down and back injured from the hit to the Forerunner metal, the Arbiter’s weakened form fell to the ground. Thanks to the Arbiters distraction, the 117’s shields were back up to 77% capacity, and with all the strength he could muster, the Spartan pushed his broken form off of the walkway. But like with the Arbiter, the monitor's actions are far too quick, and with Spark being closer to the Spartan now, the energy force devastated the Chief’s shields, knocking him to knees and his armor releasing intense smoke. In a moment of what seemed like repent mixed with fury, Guilty Spark calmed his angry barrage at the cripled Spartan, with his single eye of violent red turning back to its calming blue. And in this moment of tranquility within the heated battle, the monitor gave a speech, a monologue if you will, one that shocked both the Spartan and his compatriots. 343 Guilty Spark: You are the child of my makers. Inheritor of all they left behind. You are Forerunner! Those final three words echoed throughout the Chief’s mind. ‘Oh my god…….It all makes sense now.’ Every angle the Chief looked at it, more questions that seemingly had no answers were solved by this revelation. Humanity was the only species that could activate Forerunner technology. Why? Because they were descendents of the Forerunners. 343 Guilty Spark and 2401 Penitent Tangent referred to humans as reclaimers. Why? Because they were the inheritors of the Forerunners legacy. The Prophets ordered the extinction of the entire human race, while willingly invited the other races they encountered to join in their religious campaign. Why? Because humanity were the true descendants of the Forerunners, and thus the only evidence that the Great Journey was false. The Gravemind referred to itself as a monument to all our sins. Why? Because humans were the children of the Floods jailers. The only Portal to the Ark was buried beneath New Mombasa in East Africa Why? Because ancient humans originated from East Africa. All this time, the Covenant had been fighting the gods they worshiped and the Flood had been exacting vengeance on their greatest enemy. It all made sense! Suddenly the Spartan was brought back into reality, having found the strength to push himself back up, now fueled by the knowledge of what this pointless conflict was driven by. 343 Guilty Spark: But this ring... In a split second, Sparks' single eye turned red again, ready to finish the job on the weakened but still determined reclaimer. 343 Guilty Spark: ...Is mine! ‘Like hell it is’ the Chief remarked to himself. And with speed so quick it looked like a blur, the Spartan picked up his fallen assault rifle and prepared to do battle with the monitor of Installation 04.

7 ICONIC HALO 3 MOMENTS Recreated with my poor and very long writing skills. 4. WE ARE FORERUNNER Part #1 The newly furnished doors opened from the presence of the Reclaimers. The Master Chief, Arbiter, and Johnson cautiously enter the cold, desolate, and empty Control Room. The Chief observed the striking resemblance to the original control room on Alpha Halo, from the metal decorating the walls, to the hologram of the ring orbiting the area. Just like the Spire the two warriors climbed just minutes prior, the ring's Control Room was a one-to-one replica of Installation 04’s. To the Spartan, it was fitting that this was to be the place where it all came to a close. This room was where he and Cortana learned of Halo’s true purpose, where it all started. And so it was to be the place where it ended. The shrieks and growls of the approaching Flood echoed from the hallway behind them. The three soldiers turned around rapidly, weapons drawn, ready for any interference that may prevent them from completing their suicidal mission. Before any shots could be fired though, the blast doors closed, sealing the desperate and tired war heroes within the unfinished key-room, while keeping the Flood out. Knowing that the doors wouldn’t be able to hold off the hoard for long, The Arbiter, without hesitation, centered himself in front of the gateway, acting as a last line of defense for this crazy ass plan. The Chief and Johnson proceed forward to the familiar control panel, all alight and ready for the touch of a reclaimer to execute its purpose. Cortana: Yank me, Chief. Instinctively, the Spartan reached behind to the back of his helmet and pulled out the glowing A.I. chip housing his recovered companion. ‘This is it’ thought the Chief. ‘This is the end of this infection. The end to this thousand year long conflict. The end of it all…’ And the Chief was ready to be the one to put an end to it. He and Cortana were designed to turn the tide of the war, now, together, they would finish the fight once and for all. But while examining Cortana’s chip, ready to put it to use, a gruff but determined voice entered the Chief’s head, shaking him out of his thoughts. Johnson: I'm not gonna lose her too. The Chief looked over at his bloodied beaten marine ally, confused by his desire to be the one to activate the doomsday machine. At first the Spartan looked to examine the strategic reasoning behind it. Sure it made sense, Johnson was more vulnerable to the Flood, whereas the Spartan was in tip-top condition, and would work better as defense to back up the Arbiter. However there was something deeper to this want from the former Orion candidate. The meaning of Johnson's words hit him the minute he looked into the veteran marines blood shot eyes. ‘He still blames himself for Miranda's demise’ the Spartan concluded. What once seemed like a decision based on strategy and tactical precision, transformed into something more personal. Something the Spartan, having lost many allies in his three decades of service, knew better than anyone else. Now understanding the sergeant's intent, the Chief tossed the data chip to Johnson, who without a second thought, headed for the control panel. The Chief accompanied the Arbiter by the door, protecting the Control Room and making sure that if his Elite friend was to go down fighting he wouldn't be alone. As the Sergeant Major approached the control panel, a distinct and familiar whizzing sound came from the hallowed out ceiling. None of the soldiers attempted to look up, as the blue glow emanating from above and the robotic musical hum was enough to notify them on who just entered. 343 Guilty Spark. 343 Guilty Spark: Oh, hello! Wonderful news - the installation is almost complete! The monitor sounded like a kid on Christmas morning, all bright and excited for what was to come. To say the attitude of Spark was irritating to the bloodied sergeant would be an understatement. Having just fended off thousands of Flood infection and combat forms and surviving by the skin of his teeth, the grizzled veteran was not in the mood for the lightbulb's eccentric discussions. Johnson restrained himself though, keeping his voice level, if a bit uninterested. Johnson: Terrific. The monitor's luminescent eye turned to face the limping soldier. His gaze coming off as very unnerving due to its lack of visible emotion. 343 Guilty Spark: Yes...isn't it? An awkward silence followed, and while the Chief’s body was at the door, his mind was with the duo approaching the control panel. For some reason that silence disturbed the Spartan, as if it was a warning for something far worse. Meanwhile the monitor and sergeant had reached the activation panel, index still in Cortana’s pocket, ready to be used. 343 Guilty Spark: I have begun my simulations. No promises, but initial results indicate this facility should be ready to fire...in just a few more days! As the sergeant set down his spartan laser the meaning of Sparks' words suddenly clicked with him. And the meaning he got from it was one that boiled his blood to the bone. Here they were at the end of all things, ready to finally destroy the Flood once and for all, the same enemy that whipped out an entire race, and this son of bitch tinkerbell wanna be was still yapping about what they can and can’t do. One thought ran through Johnson's head as he prepared himself for what he said next: Fuck it! Johnson: We don't have a few more days! With that weight off his shoulder, Johnson took Cortana’s chip delicately in his battered hands, and readied it to activate the installation. Over his shoulder though, the monitor was beyond shocked by the complete disregard of protocol. This statement alarmed and frightened Spark to his very core. 343 Guilty Spark: Bu-bu-but a premature firing will destroy the Ark! The monitor had only just gotten his installation back and now it was going to be taken away from him once again. The sergeant side eyed the Forerunner A.I., a smug smile forming at his bruised lips. The Sergeant dismissed Sparks worries, being too tired to care or shout at him for his stubborn view of the situation. His only response was a half hearted demand. Johnson: Deal with it. Those words echoed throughout the mechanical mind of the monitor. ‘Have these Reclaimers really learned nothing?! Do they not understand what these fortress worlds mean to their legacy?! What these fortress worlds mean to me?!’ And then everything clicked for the luminescent orb. 343 Guilty Spark: It will destroy this installation.

I also have the thicc old XBOX with some games. KOTOR 1 and 2, Halo 1 and 2 (obviously) Morrowind GOTY and dis weird af car racing game. Halo will always have a special place in my memories though. 7 ICONIC HALO 3 MOMENTS Recreated with my poor writing skills. 3. THE DEMON AND THE ANGEL Part #2 The Chief wasted no time in entering the corrupted tunnel that led to his objective. The sound of Flood roars and the heavy pitter patter of the Spartans boots on the metal floor filled the Chief's ears as he neared his destination. Suddenly, with no warning whatsoever his screen was once again filled with damaged projections of Cortana, her tired face holding a look of despair and insanity. Her voice riverbed within his helmet like the moans of a distant spirit. Considering how close he was to his destination, the Chief held out hope that these visuals were indeed the work of the Floods leader, trying to manipulate the him into giving up. This theory didn’t stop the visions from hurting the Spartan though. Cortana ‘Vision’: There will be no more Sadness! The vision of the A.I. turned an ice blue as she chanted this phrase, her eye holding within it a symbol that the Chief was very familiar with. Reclaimer. Why she did this was beyond him. Cortana ‘Vision’: No more Anger! Once again, the transmission changed color, turning an angry red, the symbol still remaining within her iris for the Spartan to see. However this was not what caught his attention. ‘Sadness? Anger? The first two stages of Rampancy! The stages that only a few A.I. have survived from! Could she..could she be rampant?!’, the Chief worried to himself. Cortana ‘Vision’: No more Envy! Like the previous two, the image flashed into a violent Green, with the symbol of reclaimer still holding a strong presence. The Chief’s worry was through the roof. ‘Envy! The final stage of Rampancy! The stage that very few A.I.’s have ever even experienced!’ The image returned to its former color before the Spartan could dwell on it any further, as the A.I. smirked a smile most unpleasant, with her endless eyes flickering to a dark, rose like red. As if drunk on power, the figment of the Chief’s friend continued her ramblings, only this time she held a voice of confidence, one that even the Prophet of Truth would find impressive. Cortana ‘Vision’: Oh, and your poet Eliot had it all wrong, THIS is the way the world ends. ‘No…NO….NO!’ screamed the Spartan internally as he barged through the remaining Covenant gateways. The Graveminds plan was working, but not well enough. The A.I. 's fate was undetermined to the Chief, and his resolve continued to stay strong through all the horror he faced. The Flood leader realized it needed to break both of them and fast. Gravemind: YOU WILL SHOW ME WHAT SHE HIDES!, OR I SHALL FEAST UPON YOUR BONES! As the Demon continued his charge to the prison of his dying ally, the Gravemind grew desperate. Determined to break the child of its jailers and to find out the secret which both the tortured A.I. and the Spartan held, the Gravemind threw subtlety out the window and played the trap card which it had been saving for some time. Just in front of the final doorway appeared the corrupted and broken figure of Cortana. Her face held a smile that would have brought chills down any man's spine. Her form flickered and phased as it approached the Chief, swapping rapidly between the colors of Rampancy. She finally got so close to the Spartan that her face was only inches away from colliding with his helmet. Her mouth then opened, and in a sinister monotone voice most unlike her, it chanted its final words. Cortana ‘Vision’: This is UNSC A.I. CTN 0452-9. I AM A MONUMENT TO ALL YOUR SINS. The figure phased through the Spartan as if it were a ghost, leaving behind a man he stood as still as stone. Helmet or no helmet, it would be clear to anyone that this man had just snapped. He had just seen the universe's last hope, his last hope, fall right before him. He had lost, when he was only moments away from victory. He missed. For what felt like hours the Gravemind savored its victory believing himself to have finally broken humanity's beacon of hope. Then something happened. Something that it had not expected. The Spartan kept running. Not away from his failure, but towards his destination. Towards his goal. ‘HE STILL HAS FAITH IN HER? WHY!?’ the Gravemind pondered to itself. While the rhyming hive mind stayed stuck in this funk of disbelief, the Chief finally entered the prison of his comrade. It was a dark room, the dim red lights gleaming of the Covenant doors barely provided a clear vision. At the center of the room lay the only real source of light. A circular covenant holo table, with a strong plasma barrier surrounding it. Within it lay the frail figure of a woman, no older than 28, with a flowing purple bob cut, lines of dark and inactive code laying static in strips of black decorating the cold blue body, and a face whose eyes were closed and filled with pain and sadness. There she was. Waiting for him to finally come back for her. Without hesitation, the Spartan took the but of his Shotgun and with three swift swings, brought the barrier down. The room went dark and quiet, the only light being the faint blue figure before him. ‘Please…don’t let me…be too late…’ the Chief prayed. Cortana: You…found..me… The Master Chief’s heart stopped. Within that moment he felt as though he had died and come back to life. Those three words, on their own they meant nothing, but strung together and said by this figure, stopped the Chief in a way that no victory could. The Spartan observed her from above, looking at her almost as if he was examining the injuries of a stray puppy. His eyes focused on her figure as his brain tried to conjure a response. All the things he wanted to say to her. All the things he could say to her. They overwhelmed him in a wave of pure happiness. The damaged A.I. strained to move her head to look at her savior directly, her face still holding the same look as she had before the barrier was smashed. Cortana: But so much of me…is wrong…..Out of place…..You might be too late…. ‘No! I’m not losing you for real this time! Not now, not ever!’ thought the Spartan as he lowered to her level and with as strong a voice as he could muster, said the only thing he knew she needed to hear. Master Chief: You know me. When I make a promise… Suddenly, as if she had just woken from a nightmare only to find out it never happened, Cortana propped herself up with her digital hands, her blue glow brightening with joy and her code racing up her legs, arms, and torso like the neurons of a brain. Cortana: You…keep it…I do know how to pick em. The Spartan smiled a smile so big it hurt his face. She was back. Choosing his thoughts carefully, the Master Chief responded in kind to the banter of his partner. Master Chief: Lucky me. I found your solution. Do you still have it? Slowly but steadily rising to her own feet, the luminescent A.I. beauty held out her arm and out of her palm appeared a wire scan of an ancient Forerunner trinket. Cortana: The activation index from the first Halo ring. A little souvenir I hung on to…just in case…Got an escape plan? Master Chief: Thought I’ed try shooting my way out. Mix things up a little. Smiling that all familiar smile the A.I. put away the index, and with no hesitation, accepted the A.I. chip the Chief held in between his fingers, phasing into her former home. The Spartan then placed the chip into the back of his helmet, plugging directly into his neural interlace. That all familiar feeling of cold but soothing water washed over his brain. Cortana: Just keep your head down. There's two of us in here now, remember? The two’s smiles had never disappeared throughout this entire process. In fact the callback from Cortana proceeded to increase them. They were back together. As they approached the door out of this hell hole once more, the two warriors made silent promises to themselves. As long as they lived, they would never let the other one go. They would be inseparable forever: the mighty demon and his guardian angel. End Scene

7 ICONIC HALO 3 MOMENTS Recreated with my poor writing skills. 3. THE DEMON AND THE ANGEL Part #1 The Chief continued to trudge through the corroded halls of High Charity, shotgun in hand, flashlight on, breathing heavily. He had encountered Flood infections before but this was on another level. This holy city was once decorated with ornate purple corridors, with pulsing blue energy coursing through conduits, and even ancient plant life taking up certain religious zones where members of the Covenant came to worship. If the Chief had to describe the former Covenant homeworld in three words they would be cold, vast, and beautiful. Now these wide open corridors with all their isolating beauty were infested with fleshy zits and skin growing across the walls like spider-webs. The once clean floors were now covered in a milky like liquid with the bones of former enemies scattered around. The almost chapel-like doors that opened with a musical hum, were now replaced with fleshy sphincter holes that opened and closed in the most disturbing of ways. This city was hot, claustrophobic, and unwelcoming. The Chief didn’t know how much the Gravemind knew about him, but it was no secret to anyone that out of all the threats the Spartan had faced over the years, the Flood was the only one he truly feared. If he was an ordinary man with an ordinary reason to be here, he would have left the moment he entered the forbidden tomb of the grave robbers. However, the Chief was no ordinary man and his reason for being here was not only urgent. It was personal. Within this hive mind and suffering and pain lay someone that the Chief was desperate to find. A soldier, as strong as he, someone who he trusted with his life. Someone who could not only save the universe but save the Spartan from experiencing the one thing he fears: loss. This lost soul was fighting for her very survival and even the Chief wasn’t fully certain if she was still her former self, but that didn’t matter to him. This tormented soldier of war was his responsibility. She was the only person who truly knew him, even better than he knew himself. She was his Guardian Angel, his savior that had so many times pulled him out of the depths of hell whenever he fell. He needed to return the favor and then some. Cortana was close at hand, and he wasn’t letting up. As the Spartan drew nearer to the faint signal of his tormented A.I., his HUD flickered with angry static. The sound of the inside of a sea shell covered his ears, and the distorted face of his long-time partner filled his eyes. Cortana ‘Vision’: I have walked the edge of the Abyss! I have governed the unwilling. I have witnessed countless empires break before me. He had experienced many of these over the past few months, and while they never harmed him in any way, they always made him uneasy. For he did not know if they were just the illusions of the Gravemind sent to break him, the actual pleas of his companion, or even both. One thing was for certain, every time he saw Cortana in pain, a part of him died inside. Cortana ‘Vision’: I have seen the most courageous soldiers fall away in fear. I was there with the Angel at the tomb. I have seen your future! And I have Learned! The corrupted footage of the desperate A.I. left his screen in a flicker of blue, as a terrible growl of rage filled the Spartans ears. The voice echoed throughout his helmet, filled with the moans and pained cries of thousands of souls taken by the Flood. Together they formed the voice of Gravemind, an almost unintelligible yet eloquent speaker that demanded your attention whenever you heard it speak. The Chiefs visor went a sickly green, as he could hear the faint sounds of tentacles slithering within the ventilation system of the fallen kingdom. Gravemind: SUBMIT! END HER TORMENT AND MY OWN! When all was quiet once more, and his vision was once again filled with the thick fog of flood spores and body covered walls of the Covenant corridors, the Spartan proceeded. Even when shaken to his very bones, the Chief kept his mind on the task at hand. The mission that would in theory stop the Flood once and for all. The mission that would end the conflict of a thousand years. The mission that would reunite him with Cortana for at least one last time. As the Chief exited the cramped and fleshy hallway he once occupied, he entered a room that was large in scale. Its ceiling went on for what he would assume was miles and beneath him lay a pit of green plasma and mist. The circular room lay mostly intact from the Flood invasion of the holy city, with only a former holy bridge towards the center above the abyss being covered in the infectious crust. Surrounding the center of the bridge, at each corner, were what appeared to be four high tech covenant reactors. Suddenly with a high pitch whirl, a very damaged looking one exploded into blue plasma fire and purple remains of Covenant architecture. ‘Scratch that, three Covenant reactors. These must be the remaining power source that allowed the Flood to pilot High Charity to the Ark’, the Spartan concluded. With the signal just on the other side of a large part of plasma, and a perfectly sturdy Flood bridge waiting for him, the Chief wasted no time as he bolted to his destination. The screams of the Gravemind echoed throughout the chamber, acting as an alarm for its brothers and sisters in arms. Though it sent out as much as it could from brute forms, to range forms, to even tank forms, that still wasn’t enough to stop the Chief. The Spartan pushed through the corpses like they were made of paper, coating the walls and floors with gallons of tainted blood. The Gravemind was shocked by this development. Sure it knew of the Chiefs strength against his army and was quite aware of his mission to save his A.I. However it wasn’t expecting the Spartan to be so close to his goal so fast. It had beaten him both physically and mentally over and over, baiting him with the hope of his companion, knowing that eventually the soldier would break down and give it the answers to all his questions. But just like his A.I., this Spartan was no push over. Every time he got knocked down, he got right back up with more determination and fury than anyone could handle.

7 ICONIC HALO 3 MOMENTS Recreated with my poor writing skills. 2. FALL OF THE COVENANT The Demon and the Heretic slowly made their way across the Forerunner light bridge. From their end, all they could see was the shattered window of the citadel, overlooking the core of the shield world. To the left, was a crashed Pelican Dropship, its wings badly damaged but still operational. In the center lay the activation panel of the Halo array. The button to the doomsday machines had been pressed no less than seven minutes ago, so it would take less than that for the fireworks to finally go off. As they trudged closer to their destination, the Spartan and Elite could hear the sounds of painful moans and the tearing of limbs. The two didn’t need to turn around to know that their Flood friends were happily feasting on the bodies of the fallen Covenant bodyguards. Both warriors knew the Flood and the Gravemind well enough to know that this alliance would only last as long as it needed it. They kept their weapons close, staying on guard for any sign of resistance or betrayal. The Arbiter and Chief finally stopped short as they reached the heart of the Ark’s activation center, its panel glowing a bright blue, and the glass of the once holy viewport scattered across the ornate bronze floors. But the fallen beauty of this place was not what paused the two heroes in their tracks. It was rather the tragic scene that they observed near the side of the Pelican Dropship. There sat Sergeant Johnson, beaten and bloodied, holding the lifeless body of Miranda Keyes in his arms. Before this point, neither soldier had ever seen the usual jovial sergeant look so helpless. Now, they looked upon a man whose sniffles echoed throughout the citadel, barely restraining tears of sadness. No one could see it, but on the inside, the Chief was crying as well. Not just for Johnson and Miranda, but for the man who he couldn’t save: Jacob Keyes. The Captain of the Pillar of Autumn was the closest thing the Spartan had to a father. He was someone who he could trust and vice versa. After he failed to rescue Keyes from the flood infection on Installation 04, the Chief wasn’t the same. He felt that in some way this man's death was his fault, not being fast or strong enough to save him in time. And here it was happening again. But this time, it was not a veteran who was nearing the end of his era. Instead it was a young, headstrong, brash, but confident leader, who had so much ahead of her. Miranda was a chance for Chief to make up for his mistake, and he failed once again. Self doubt began to implant itself into the mind of the stoic cyborg. If he couldn’t save the father figure who always believed in him, and the sister who inspired him to keep fighting the good fight, what chance did he have in saving the life of the friend who he made the promise to? 'What hope do I have of saving Cortana?' the Spartan questioned internally. The Arbiters' emotions, while not as deeply rooted as the Spartans, were still raw. These humans were the first ones he ever trusted, the first ones who showed him that humanity was more than what he believed. This Sergeant who helped him take down his brute rival; Tartarus, the man who brought so much joy and levity to the soldiers he fought with, was now a guilt ridden mess, most likely blaming himself for this unfortunate turn of events. This Commander who risked her life to save the galaxy from absolute annihilation, the woman who could rally up an army with just her presence, was now lying dead in the arms of a soldier, with hot metal spikes piercing her stomach. ‘The Prophet will pay dearly for this’, the former Fleet Master swore to himself internally. Using what little strength he had left, the sergeant placed his hands onto the lifeless eyes of the young commander and closed them, forever. He weakly looked up to the two legends standing before them, bloodied, beaten, teary, but determined. Sergeant Johnson: Stop the rings. Save the rest. The Spartan gave a small nod, promising to finish the mission. The Arbiter took the lead, approaching the control panel from the right side, energy sword at the ready. As he climbed the steps, the Arbiter noticed a familiar frail figure lying upon the ornate pedestal. Adorned in maroon robes, with a golden crown placed atop his head, was the Prophet of Truth, his wrinkled fleshy skin looking particularly nasty. His eyes were half lidded, with the visible part of irises appearing a sickly blood red. ‘He’s weakened. Why, I do not know, but now’s not the time for those kinds of questions’ Arbiter thought. He continued his approach to the man who lied to him, readying himself for any kind of tricks. Suddenly, the dying figure awoke like a zombie, its hoarse and weak voice barely uttering above a whisper. Prophet of Truth: Can you see Arbiter? The moment of salvation….is at hand. Not wanting to hear anymore lies from the feeble manipulator, the Arbiter roughly grabbed the robe of the San'shyuum. He readied his energy sword to finally end the false sermones of the Prophet. Arbiter: It will not last! Prophet of Truth: You’re kind…never believed in the promise of the sacred rings. Without warning, a new voice came from the sickly body the Arbiter held. Its sound resembled that of a thousand damned souls screaming in unison. Its voice was deep and guttural, reverbing throughout the now quiet Citadel. FloodTruth: LIES FOR THE WEAK! BEACONS FOR THE DELUDED! The two soldiers knew this voice well. For it was the Gravemind. The Flood must have entered through the Citadel's fractured window and infected the arrogant prophet. ‘That explains why he looks like he’s dying.’ the Arbiter concluded. Upon recognizing the voice of the lovecraftian parasite, the Spartan ran to the Arbiter's aid, aiming his assault rifle at the head of the infected prophet. He slowly lowered it though once he noticed the Arbiters position. His energy sword was active, and ready to pierce the flesh of the it’s target. Arbiter: I will have my revenge. On a Prophet! Not a plague! As if he was switching between two different personas, the Prophet's eyes rolled back and his former voice emanated from his mouth once more. Prophet of Truth: My feet…tread the path! I shall become a god! But his attempts were in vain as the parasite took control once more. FloodTruth: YOU WILL BE FOOD! NOTHING MORE! Realizing that they were running out of time and respecting the Arbiter's wish to end the Prophet himself, the Chief placed his palm upon the control panel of the Ark’s activation chamber. Within seconds after making contact, the interface recognized the DNA of the Reclaimer and the activation process was reversed. The holograms of the Halo array powered down. Returning to his normal mental state once more, the prophet watched as his master plan of over 30 years fell apart right before him. He had lost. Prophet of Truth: NO! I…AM…TRUTH! THE VOICE OF THE COVENANT! The Arbiter, having heard enough at this point, and knowing that the Prophet had at least the will power to regain his consciousness, grabbed the feeble priest by his neck, readying his sword behind his back. ‘No, you are a heretic. You and all those who follow you are.’ Arbiter: And so…you must be silenced! With one swift blow the blinding white blade entered the Prophet's back and exited his chest, giving him enough time to let out a pained yell. The infection corrupting the foul liar squealed in pain, dying with its host. Releasing hold of the body, the Arbiter relished the moment. He had finally done it. He had finally killed the great manipulator who led his people and many others on a misguided journey of pain and suffering. He had finally redeemed himself and ended the Covenant. With his mission completed, the Elite let out one final proud roar that echoed throughout the citadel. Disabling the energy sword, the Elite turned towards the Spartan as if looking for some confirmation that it was over. The Spartan, faceless, expressionless, gave him a small nod. One that said way more than words ever could. It was over. End Scene
