    I have the set of 12 metallics. Nice pencils, but only if you put them in with another set of pencils. The palette of my 12 set is very...(stops talking for fear of being rude.) Well, it has 2 greys (or 3 if you count the silver as grey), 2 violets, 2 greens, 2 blues, an orange-Red, gold and 1 Violet-red.

      Thanks and welcome and the "Extra soft Mont Marte oil pastels" are slightly softer than the lightwish oil pastels where as the "signature Mont Marte oil pastels" are definitely harder oil pastels than the Lightwish. Hope this helps clear up the confusion. Please let me know if you have any more questions. Welcome to the MyArtCube community! :)

      @@myartcube Mont Marte gives the designation "Premium" to their artist range, which is the category of the extra soft oil pastels. I tried both the "Premium" and "Signature" lines, and I much prefer the softer, Premium version. You would probably like the oil pastels by Soho Urban Artist. They are fabulous, but only have 72 colors. FYI - Mungyo has a metallic/neon set with 12 colors in each category for a total of 24. I have them, but haven't yet tried them. Great video!

    I will use mine, but they are not my favorite. They take the oil in oil pastel seriously- even in my air conditioned apartment I can open them and they will be swimming in pools of oil. Make sure they are stored flat!

    I ordered them from Amazon a few months ago. I didn’t have the fallout as you put it, but I think it had to do with probably not being wrapped more securely for shipping. I love Amazon but I do think the aim is to get 12million or more packages shipped a day, so as long as they were delivered to my address at all in one piece, I’m happy. They have vibrant creamy color. I put mine in a small clear plastic hinged container from Temu and all 36 fit perfectly. Thanks for reviewing them.

      Yes you are totally right. The pencils came poorly packaged. I didn't mean to throw shade at Amazon. Lol. I really love Amazon too. I'm glad you found a more convenient container for them, and thank you for your comment :)

    I have some monte marte soft pastels but thinking about getting into oil pastels as I don’t like the dust 😢. Is there a water soluble pastel you suggest? Also how do you store your pastels? I see some people have trays for them ? Thanks 😊

    • @myartcube
      @myartcube Місяць тому

      I'm not that familiar with water soluble pastels but if you are looking for a water soluble crayon perhaps the Neocolor II's by Caran D'ache or Sargent art water soluble crayons. Again I don't have any experience with water soluble oil pastels so I cannot speak to that. And yes the dust and chalky texture and feel of soft pastels can be a deal breaker for many artists. I'm personally not a fan of soft pastels and have only tried them a few times and didn't take to them. Thank you for visiting and I hope I was of some help. :)

    Thank you! I bought this last year, but still haven't gotten around to trying it (I forgot I had it). When I first got it, I couldn't find any reviews or guidance on how to use it, so I just stuck with the Sennelier D'Artigny. This review and the extra info by @starr-starr and @johnsartmaterialguidestuto7757 have made me want to pull it out and give it a try. Lindsay Weirich made a video with another option on sealing oil pastels called "Can You Varnish and Oil Pastel Painting? YES You Can!!!" where she used Minwax Polycrylic. I haven't tried her method, but I thought I'd share in case you're interested.

    • @myartcube
      @myartcube Місяць тому

      The Book I referenced for this particular piece was Titled "Impressionism" by Karin H. Grimme. I added this reference to the description section of the video as well. You can also find images of these paintings online as well. Don't forget to check your local library for this or similar books before you spend your hard earned cash. Libraries have saved me a bundle over the last year. The original artist was Paul Signac. :) I hope this helps and congrats on starting your oil pastel journey! I'm excited for you. The official line from Talens themselves is that they do not recommend mixing with Water now. Reality is they do not really know. I use this all the time and asked the question of dilution rate right at the start from them direct and they did not know and then came back and contradicted their stance on mixing water with it. However, I have learnt all there is to know about this Varnish and you can mix it with water,,,,consistency dependent on your needs! I mix it with up to 50/50 water but that would not be my final coat...i do one coat 50 /50 and another undiluted which serves very well and do not place it on too thick either. I get an almost photo un clumpy look to my oil pastels by doing that. You should be able to varnish at least 4 30cm x 40cm paintings. Stir it ...do not shake it because of Bubbles etc and wipe lid as it will just seize up the top otherwise. I would recommend that you let Oil Pastels sit for a few days to a week before varnishing as it can move the Pastel and go over the rest of it...then you would have to restore it which would be annoying. I would also recommend using Foam brushes as it is better than leaving brush marks or letting a brush loosen the oil Pastel on the paper and causing a problem. I am doing my own vid on this but haven't got to it yet! x my banner pic is varnished with this stuff as too are the majority of my oil pastels.

    I love this stuff, have already reordered a second jar. The Talens website says it can be thinned with water, but doesn’t say how much. I contacted the company, and they suggested 1:1 varnish:water, but I had already run some experiments and am happy with 2 parts water, 1 part varnish. On thicker impasto paintings I would do a couple of coats. I use a bigger brush to move faster. I store the thinned varnish in a tightly sealed jar. Thinning it makes it easier to cover- no skips.you can also let it run over the painting and drip the excess off- I let it drip into a plastic cup and pour it back into my storage jar. It works great in my sketchbooks. It is not UV protective, so you can use a UV varnish over it for art that you want to frame. I love your artwork!

      Hi there and welcome to the community :) I'm so glad you found the review useful! Please let me know if you have any questions about the set. Just an little extra info, I also really enjoy using the Lightwish/Kuelox oil classic pastel set as well as the Mungyo gallery oil pastels in case you've never tried those yet. I have other videos that demonstrate my use of those brands if you are trying to decide on which oil pastels best suite your needs :)

    Lovely study! I rarely use oil pastels but I am hoping to change that as I’ve been a little obsessed with buying them lately😂 I like the Haiya? ones and the Caran D’ache ones but also own the lightwish and Sennelier ones. I really should start doing more!

    Hi I have around 18 watercolor pencils from the Magnus line. Where did you buy this set?

    • @myartcube
      @myartcube 2 місяці тому

      I originally bought this set years ago on Amazon. I saw that Amazon was recently offering a smaller set through the Faber-Castell store site through Amazon. I also saw Magnus pencil sets offered by Blick and Utrecht art stores online. Unfortunately I have not been able to locate the 24 set again. Please let me and the rest of the viewers know if you are able to locate a current retailer. Thank you for your comment. I hope I was able to provide you with some useful information. Best Regards, Natalie

    I wanted to leave a note here for discussion. I believe these Faber-Castell Albrecht Durer Magnus watercolor pencils are a great option for a mobile nature journaling kit. I personally like to take a backpack for my outings to parks for nature journaling. The thin tin these pencils comes in fits nicely into my pack. I really like them also because they provide more detail than neocolor II crayons while still allowing for bold strokes and larger area coverage. Overall, these are a very versatile art supply. *Please note that at the time of this review I am not sponsored by any of the product manufacturers/companies listed and named in this video. Please let me know your thoughts on these pencils. The only downside is they do seem a little pricey. If you found this video informative please consider liking and subscribing to help support my efforts here on UA-cam :) Thank you and stay creative friend!

    Beautiful ❤ In my limited experience in both oil and oil pastels I much prefer oil pastels! I have ADHD and don’t have the patience for waiting for the paint to dry!😂

      I totally agree. Though I love oil painting, oil pastels definitely provide faster results and are just so much fun to use :)

      I know right! It's a tough choice to make. I love oil pastels so I know they won't get neglected like some of my other art supplies, which I will be getting out for future projects and videos. Thank you for your support and welcome to the community Cindy from Sydney :)

    I absolutely love my Montmarte oil pastels! I have that exact set, I noticed there were some differences between their extra soft and their signature set. The one you have, and the one that I have like yours is the signature set. They are slightly harder/firmer than their extra soft. I actually got the 48 set of extra soft and I didn’t really care for it much, they weren’t as vibrant and easy to control as the signature set. I do have the extra soft in the natural 24 set. They are slightly more muted colors, and Spread more easily so I use them more for backgrounds and for the final layers on top of the firmer pastels. I haven’t tried the light wish, although I’m not a huge fan of the Paul Rubens super soft/sticky/greasy oil pastels. Paul Rubens company also makes the Light wish brand.… I really like your paintings, they both turned out wonderful! :-)

      @creativesolutions902 Thank you so much for your insight. I wish I had read this before I bought the 120 Mont Marte premium extra soft oil pastels....lol. Oh well. I'm sure I'll still use them as you have found uses for them as well. certain paintings call for more muted colors so they won't go to waste. I splurged a little and got the 120 set since I had an amazon gift card from a return. As for the lightwish, they are really nice oil pastels and aren't greasy at all. I had no idea they were made by Paul Rubens! Thank you so much I appreciate you and additional information on the lightwish oil pastel sets. Thank you for your kind words regarding my oil pastel paintings/master studies. I've been really enjoying exploring impressionism recently, and who better to study from than the master artist of impressionism themselves :-) I also have a review of the Mungyo oil pastels on my channel. Although I like the Mungyo and think they are ok, I don't consider them superior to lightwish or Mont Marte oil pastels. They also broke in half a lot easier than the other brands. Take care and thank you again for the information!

    Which Mont Marte oil pastels did you compare in this video; the premium or the signature? Also, I heard the Lightwish / Kuelox are a little sticky / tacky. Is that your experience? Thanks for sharing this video!

    • @myartcube

      Hi there Ivy, I used the signature oil pastel set of 48 by Monte Marte. I will have to try and compare them to the premium oil pastels at some point and share that review in the future. Yes the Lightwish/Kuelox have a slight tack to them. Thank you for your comment. Also I wanted to address there is a small issue I had with the Mungyo oil pastels during the demonstration. I'm heavy handed and tend to apply a lot of pressure and one of the Mungyo oil pastels broke and began to crumble as I was using it. I didn't have that issue with either the Mont Marte signature or the lightwish oil pastels. I hope this insight helps you with your decision if you are looking to invest in one of these sets. :)
