You Better Mind
My take on the Bessie Jones song. The first time I heard her sing this I knew it was one that I would add to my set list. I sing this all the time. Of course hers is the best version hands down. I offer this here only as a tribute and for educational purposes.

My take on the old Woody Guthrie song. I first heard this in the fall of 2014 as part of Todd Park Mohr's "Daily Donut" video series. This is a trial run.
Roland Micro Cube amp/harmonica demo
Переглядів 18 тис.9 років тому
The video pretty much says it all. But to briefly run down, I'm giving you an idea of how a harmonica sounds when played through the micro cube. While this amp isn't meant to gig in a large noisy room, it is great for busking on the streets. It also makes a fine "pedal board" due to the variety of amp model settings and on board effects. This video is for information purposes only. Take it for ...
Work Song

This is one of my favorite songs to help me get through a work day. My two main inspirations for it are the ones done by Cannonball Aderly and Paul Butterfield. I'm playing it on a Hohner CBH 2016 chromatic harmonica, through a Shure SM57 mic fitted with a Bulletizer from Blows Me Away Productions. The amp is a Roland Micro Cube set on Black Panel, tone almost all the way down, delay up about 1...
Go Ye & Preach My Gospel/re-arranged
Переглядів 1049 років тому
This is my re-arrangement of the Rev. Dan Smith original. I claim no rights to this. It's for information purposes only. The original version by Rev. Dan is an upbeat jump blues style. My slower "work cadence" evolved a few years ago while I was working in the fields of a tree farm. The rhythmic clipping of the shears keeping the time. I hope you enjoy this as much as I do. Your comments are we...
Why Do The Heathen Rage

Gospel blues done in a familiar shuffle style. I wrote and arranged this in the summer of 2013. It's drawn mainly from Psalms 2: 1-2 and Romans 1: 21-28.
I Don't Know

I wrote this back in the fall of 2013. Based on true events, it's a modern day Prodigal Son parable song. Played in the key of F on a Bb Hohner Special 20 harmonica.
In Christ the Lord

Another one I put together this evening. "In Christ the Lord" in Bm. Played on a Hohner 270 Chromonica in the key of A. I mainly play the diatonic harp. But started working on playing the chromatic this past year. A work in progress I know. But your comments and constructive criticism are welcome. Enjoy.

A quick vid I did tonight. Angus Dei in Dm. Played on a Hohner 270 Chromonica, key of A. I started working on playing with the chromatic this past year a little at a time. Still a work in progress. Your comments and constructive criticism are welcome. Enjoy.
Joshua Fit The Battle of Jericho/tutorial

I put this tutorial video together as requested by a viewer of my previous video of "Joshua..." This is to give you something to work off of. It's loose but as mentioned, ther are a few specific things that I'm soing to give this tune "flavor". Below are three sections of the song that I have tabed out. Like I said, it'll give you a base to work with. feel free to "make it yours". For lack of a...

One of my favorite songs to play out. I actually planned on doing a "good" version of this. But my ever present & trusty backup vocalist Dakota walked in just before I started filming. Sooo, enjoy. Ron

How do I get tabs for Joshua Fit the Battle?
Thank you so much for this review. I have started playing harp at a weekly outside gathering of friends. I have a micro cube but some musician friends have told me that it would make the harp sound too screechy. Haven't tried it yet because I need to purchase a mic. II really didn't really want to pay for a more expensive amp just now. This sound works for me.
Really great informative video every reviews should be like that have a good day
U Sir are a genius. I just bought a used one for 60 bucks. To play guitar in the streets. But I also play harmonica.
Thanks for the demo!
Amen! I love your version, Ron!
On acoustic setting, would have been nice to hear it uncupped; the tone may be muted/limited by the Bulletizer, but knowing how Sonny Terry might sound on this would help. The variations of amped harp are useful, but the extent of the unit's versatility are limited by the cupped harp input.
Thanks for this demo. I own one, and a Zoo Model 2, but neither can cut it at the Sunday jam at the local biker bar. I'm glad you mentioned the line out option, I would like to take advantage of that if I could. Cheers !
The recording /headphone line out sounds good into the P.A. with these though it is a bit dirty being slightly powered, while the street cube is double the wattage causing the line out to suck .A volume knob on it would cure that.
Excellent.
I have had one for quite a while. I use it for small gigs and I love the tone. Loud for what it is....sometimes I put a mic in front and go through the PA. Thanx for posting !
3rd position & 11th works better.
Not hurting the dogs ears! My dog runs in from the garden and joins in howling like a wolf...if it hurt, he wouldn't. By the way.....nice demo!
Good review. I have been playing harp through one of these for over 5 years. No problems. I use an impedance matching transformer to plug the mic in. I just use delay or reverb, never the other knob. It also has a couple of inputs in the back so you can hook up an mp3 player and play along with backing tracks. Master volume works on your input, mp3 player controls its own volume. Just this year I figured out the red Micro Cube sign on the front is just a sticker. I peeled it off and think it looks better now.
Good demo but I think your hurting the dogs ears.
Thanks for the demo, I'm looking into playing amplified and this was useful. Good sound.
The dog loved it....
A great demo thanks, after getting one of these i found your infohelpful
Enjoy. Your comments are welcome.
Nicely done. Loved the groove...
Jeremy, The "proper name is indeed "Joshua Fought the Battle of Jericho". But often times the older versions done by the black singers of the day pronounced it Fit instead of Fought. As a side note on the song/story of Joshua, he was indeed fit for the task at hand. He was obedient to Gods instruction. That's why it worked out for him.
I thought the name of this song was Joshua fought the Battle of Jericho?
Vallaboy...video's up. Have fun with it.
Does Dakota have an agent yet? Perfect canine pitch!
Play that harp Ron!!!! Floyd A.
@vallaboy...sure why not. I'll try to put something together & post it shortly. Thanks for your interest.
@harpoonfishinguy...well thankya lad. It just takes desire, time and cocentrated effort. You can do it. Get a decent harp in the key of C. Then checkout Adam Gussow & John Gindick vids. Lots of great instruction there. Now, have at it & have fun.
@timco..just havin fun lad. See ya in the canopy.
@VitalTruth...Thank you for your kind words. I have a good time with what I do. I work on my craft & play from the heart.
@ Jeff...Thanks. This is another one that I have a ball when I play out. Gets the toes a tappin.
@Jeff...Thanks Bro. This is becomming one of the ones that get the most responce from folks when I play out. I was at a pizza shop last week and the owner came out on the floor & was carrying on & having a grand ol time.
Thanks Jeff. I'll pass that on to Dakota. He's a funny dog. Every time I start to play, he'll come over and wait to hit his mark. His timming is uncanny. As for the music and my set list, I do the best I can and am always working on fine tunning.
@ SBTed..Thanks. I also have a vid of the version I do of Go Ye and Preach My Gospel. But I've been having problems uploading it. I do everything from my phone, and for some reason it's hiccuping on me with that one. I think you'll like the way I do it. Being a solo "act", I had to work with the tempo a tad. Again thanks. Ron
WTF? Tree needs a notch and a droppin with him in it.
