@@Romess1 I've watched them do it live. the vods are still on the internet. quick google search would have saved you from this embarrassment. Check out Kaiparasite on Twitch, he probably still has his Unveiled playthrough up. Has only beaten Vanilla a handful of times and has played through the entirety without savestates. Same with TheGameDisplay on UA-cam and countless other people. Or you can check out the leaderboard on SRC if you want to see speedrunners beat it in less than an hour without savestates. How can you be so ignorant just because you're having a hard time with it?

@@emptysys i'm good my man. Busy studying nowadays but I squeeze in some poe and sf2 / 3 / 4 on rare occasions. Are you finding sf6 fun? For me it's a weird one - i'm on a constant pendulum swing between the game making me really mad and it being really fun and enjoyable, so I just end up staying away from it haha. It would probably be more fun if i stuck to it, but I hit too many knowledge checks now with such few hours in it

@bobbu95 yeah its been a ton of fun for me, im about 1,5k hours into it now, put all my characters to master etc. i also compete in it in tourneys... i know its a lot simpler than sf4 and 3 but its still really satisfying imo. needs a bit more juice in terms of combos and setups imo but generally its been a rly fun game so far. im not active on youtube i just wanted to put this vid out for GGG tbh but feel free to join me on twitch or just add me on discord man this was quite the throwback. also happy new year dude

Yeah absolutely. I think my lack of enjoyment stems from me not being able to put enough hours into it to be really enjoyable, but i can tell it's shaping up to be a solid game. And sure! What's your discord?

A friend of mine who is very knowledgable in ASM (yet not DKC games) found the battle routine of the fight in the ROM and was able to write me an adjustable script. At the time however it was highly limited to minor things like ball speed and shooting delay only, i wasn't able to adjust trajectories or anything like that. Nowadays much more than that would be possible. The floating cannonballs I made myself, they are just the DK barrels that spawn over time in the battle and I repurposed them instead to be reskinned fully stationary (non waving) zingers moving sideways and clockwise and having the cannonball skin.

hahaha... that is a... very uhh black and white way of thinking about it. You make it sound like even making the game for them was "simple" just because it took a team of video game developers a year to make a game that is still widely popular today, when in reality they have probably spent much longer developing their own tools and engines before they could even start working on the actual game itself. For the record those are people that are trained and specialized in making videogames. I don't even know how to code anything. Most of the romhack making process was a steep learning curve for myself as well, as I just went on to read myself into the tools and tried experimenting with them. I am also on my own and don't have any assistance despite the asm coding help I have gotten from some of my friends. I am just some dude that made this hack as a side project while studying/working/streaming/gaming, not getting paid for it like video game devs would and it was a passion project, so about 60% of the actual development time went into playtesting the entire game / parts of the game / sections and levels over and over again. If you go look up DKC1/2/3 romhacks you will barely find anything that goes past the first few world let alone a finished project and if they are, they won't have had a lot of playtesting and/or usually very simple or no tileset changes and sprite edits at all. Unveiled is a one of a kind so far in that aspect. So it is safe to say that, yes you do have to have a lot of endurance/patience to make hacks and believe it or not 4 years is still on the short end. Most people take longer or give up after world 2 or 3. Saying their hardware was inferior just because it was made in the 90s is also not really fair since they were working with their own written source code and we are using whatever selfmade tools we can to somehow have some insight on their game. It's as if they were mining diamond with a drill that they themselves designed and we just try to scrape the surface with a toothpick lol TL;DR: I know nothing about coding. I am also on my own and not a team. It is much harder to modify someone else's game than making it when you have no insight on anything and they do.

I didn't mean to come across with that way of thinking 😅 I said it in such this way because I was interested in being devil's advocate to get a strong argument to contrast, hence the b&w thinking. I'm a game dev myself, so I can understand how much time can go into something like this. I really appreciate the lengthy response. I also deeply respect that you were able to go so deep on a project. This is the kind of content that really sticks out, and feels truly like a brand new experience. The ability to be determined to work on a project from square one and learn things from scratch is extremely respectable. Not many people can accomplish that 🙂 But yes, it does seem like in general, it would greatly depend on the game to know how long things might take to make a mod. Learning tools, asm, etc. But the end result enables creating new experiences on games that everyone knows and loves. I downloaded this, I gotta try it sometime. It looks really awesome. You should be super proud for seeing a project to its completion 😊

A thing a lot of people overlook usually is that on the last 3 of the 6 Hits (Where he starts jumping left and right), you should find a strategy/pattern that allows you to be on the middle platform where the TNT barrel drops and his last jump to go somewhere else. A common mistake is to let him jump to the middle one again on his last jump and you simply won't have enough time to grab the barrel and get away from the platform.

@@emptysys thanks for the advice bro! Got past the third boss. Now I'm stuck on bramble antics. That is one hard level. So one thing I've noticed... are you supposed to have to redo Rambi after halfway? Or is my game messed up?

You can write it to one if you have the gear to do so :P

There's a couple of tools out there, I mainly used SDK2 and Platinum but sometimes some of the tools in Super Gorilla Maker 2 helped me out a lot as well. if we're talking about strictly editing tilesets, you will need Platinum. You could check the DKC Atlas forums, they should have all those tools somewhere.
