Yeah Severine, you're doing a great job here. After listening and watching for about 10 minutes I though began to ask myself, who might be your audience in this case. A piano player with some experience would just read the notes, which are like playable at first sight ( like any Einaudi - and quite a few of his pieces are really nice to play ). A real beginner might but not be able to follow such a long tutorial, even in spite of the many repetitions. What I did with my students was totally different : I played the whole piece in smaller sections and they repeated 4 or 8 bars, after they understood the structures of the left hand accompaniment. When we were through. they could improvise their own little variations ( just knowing the changes ). I teach ( better : play ) this system since many years and it's the most successful way for the students to learn to really play the music. They can play all their repertoire, and of course from the beginning by heart. I was very successful at a German music school, but after some years I quit and did only private lessons again ( as in my time as a musician ). I knew - and still know - many good teachers ( the conventional way or a little bit more creative ), but nobody seems to find out, that music should be learned like a language : 1 listening 2 playing ( after listening and watching ) This may go on for some years ( they can watch the notes, but they take usually some time, some of them never really want to read ! ). 3 invent your own pieces 4 improvise ( you can of course switch 3 and 4 ) 5 read - but only when necessary 6 write down your own pieces At this point the student can always really play, which he was not only taught but was reinvented by him/her. He plays with a freedom, which you will have only through playing by heart. She knows the chords and the structures. He won't make any mistakes and last not least he's learning everything about 2 - 3 times faster than the average. It was very interesting, that some of the stronger pupils all the sudden could read the notes without real studying. I even tried this concept for more difficult music like the easier Chopin Etudes f.e. f - minor or the long Bb - major Impromptu of Schubert. And it worked very well too. I can't teach 1000 or more students that way ( which I really would like to ), so I hope, that some creative teachers might try to do the same or their version of my way of teaching. When you once try this concept, your whole teaching becomes totally different and your students will start to fly.
