Приєднався 15 тра 2017
OmVed Gardens is a garden, food hub and exhibition space in Highgate, London.
Until recently, the space where OmVed Gardens now resides was a wounded and tarmacked wasteland. The concrete is being pulled up and the space transformed into a diverse eco habitat with a wildflower meadow, an orchard and a vegetable garden. We invite artists, architects, chefs, musicians and horticulturalists into our kitchens and exhibition space to collectively explore the nature of the relationship between people and our connection to the environment. Recent discussions and exhibitions have covered topics of rewilding, soil health, food sustainability, zero waste, natural health and wellbeing.

Winnowing - How to Clean You Seeds
Переглядів 6 тис.9 місяців тому
Separating the wheat from the chaff 🌾 Winnowing is an ancient technique that we still use today to prepare our seeds for the Seed Saving Network. It’s really simple to do. All you need is seeds and some wind! 🌾 Rub seed heads with your fingers to encourage the seeds and chaff to fall off. 🌾 Hold the container of seeds above another container and allow the wind to blow away their lighter chaff. ...

Celeriac Sweet Chestnut Purée with Crispy Mushrooms
Very simply, lovely. I grow lots of Sorrel. Mr Sorrell! UK.
Can I use the stalks of Mammoth sunflowers as the pyramid poles?
If you cook it haven’t you killed it? Therefore it’s not really fermenting as the enzymes are gone, but just rotting?
Why do you separate the chaff? Is chaff worthless?
Chaff cant be digested by humans, but it is good for some livestock feed and for tilling, it composts easily and can improve soil health. It is also used as a filling or stuffing in some textiles.
Recycled cardboard is not a safe medium with which to grow mushrooms - it contains toxins from industry, adhesives and ink. Don't use plastic boxes - they all leach chemicals. Use wooden boxes and organics mediums like peat, compost, earth and coffee grounds. Just because you can do something, doesn't mean you should (particularly if it is for your own families consumption).
Still no blight on your tomatoes?
"Its like a battery without any charge at the moment..." So its not biochar until you charge it. 🫤 Biggest mistake I keep seeing in these videos is calling the charcoal or activated carbon "biochar" right after the burn. It is not. Its just charcoal or activated carbon. Once you charge it by soaking it in compost tea, mixing it in compost, manure, worm castings, etc. THEN you have biochar.
I heard that's a bs.
Lots of great ideas!! Loved the video!
this is canada not the ffin UK
The only thing this channel needs is more views 😄 you guys are the coolest 👍🏻👍🏻
Importing Coco coir half way around the world is sooo sustainable 😂
Love the 🇵🇸 braclet❤️
💞 "promo sm"
Great creative ways to use the masses of wild garlic around at the minute. I'm definitely going to try the garlic powder!
That's nice, but not for me. I wouldn't be surprised to find wild boars chilling in the mess in my garden lol
🐝Thanks for the great video 🌻 subscribed
I don get it You peeps really deserve more engagement, your content is high quality even compared to large channels, you deserve to blow up one day, your content is criminally underviewed.
Thats very kind thank you!
why is that not a rat house?
Too small. Plus, rats like flowing water nearby, they're very clean animals. This is why you find them in sewers and near waterways. Might be a mouse house if it were a bit bigger. We put big ones up in the community orchard, along with owl and falcon boxes. Perfect pest control!
With all the pet cats and dogs + foxes in every neighborhood there are not many of them left. They're nesting mostly in areas not suitable for predators.
😳 Looks like witchcraft to me. 😬😜
A few sticks? Guess you are easily impressionable
@@AGenericFool no, just clueless when it comes to gardening. I think I planted one of my new gloves.😜
I'm not going to look for the glove. Maybe I can grow it into a leather jacket.
I guess you can say that they're snug as a bug in a rug
It maybe the way your video is produced, but you ground unshelled pumpkin seeds and then proceeded to consume them. One could eat them as you did but it would be unpleasant.
Velmi krásné video, děkuji za motivaci.
NO NO NO🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬
Unfortunately it's not simply the case of the import/export distances involved in using Coir based compost being offset by growing your own fruit/veg, because the washing processes involved that's needed to wash the Coir is massively intensive, using massive amounts of water and industrial machinery to fulfil this process, and is even being outsourced to the Low countries (Belgium/Holland), for companies within those countries to wash the Coir using inordinate amounts of water to get it clean enough for gardeners to use. The use of this massive amount of water is not good for the planet, and is doing as much damage as the use of Peat. I'm afraid a lot of these Peat free products, much like many, so called, eco friendly, is not the Panacea that we would be lead to believe, perhaps why the rest of Europe is not banning Peat based products just yet until a more sustainable and equally effective products to Peat are found. In addition to this, there really is no Standardisation' of Peat Free composts as yet, that have to suffer the same rigours as some other product. Without the 'Peat Free' side of things being industry standardised, it leaves loop holes, and short cuts in the manufacturing processes that could leave gardeners with substandard growth patterns and even worse. Once again, the UK is not so much 'leading the way', more 'jumping from the frying pan into the fire', with the rest of Europe looking on and saying 'let the UK make all the mistakes first'.
Wonderful video!! Cannot stress how important a body of water can be for a garden
So important!
how long does it then take for the mushrooms to grow to a suitable size?
How do you not get stung when touching fresh nettles??? 😮
Very simple and easy creating spawns from cardboard like that! Thank you so much for sharing this with us. :)
Does this help with insomnia?
It has many health benefits so i would guess it must, indirectly. Hope you sort it.
Ive heard about this system for so long and this is the first time I've seen it. Awesome! Thanks. Interesting poppies in the forground. 😁
Glad we could bring it life for you! very much recommend giving it a go if you have a growing space
Hi, if you heat galvanised metal it can let off some pretty nasty stuff
This is good to know, thanks!
It's nice to see this actually growing instead of just mentioned or written about. Looks like it worked well
it worked really well!
I add all of my charcoal to the compost pile and send it through the cycle before applying (with the compost) to the gardens. Easy peasy.
quench the coals in the wheelbarrow when no more flames to increase your yield. Your charging has pretty limited life - best to add some compost or vermicast to it as well to increase the diversity of life way more. Important to charge char with nutrients AND life (biology)... Happy gardening!
Thanks for the tip! Happy gardening to you too
I am confused by this. I used to grow mushrooms for medicinal purposes when I was young, and I wore a face mask, sterilized my forearms and wore gloves. Is this not a necessary process? You don't get contaminated bags?
Thanks for the message! It is for many types of fussy mushrooms but oyster mushrooms are so rampant they don’t need such measures
Brilliant Description!
yeah, right: everybody has thisd facility at home: sinkm selves, etcetc...in the livingroom!!!!
Very very good.
I'm not working with much space But I dug down far as I could - 3 feet sounds not so deep but it is for clay I built up about a foot of an interwoven core with tons of sticks - puzzled em together to fit as much as possible Filled in the soil Later I dug down 2 feet to the old core & added another tight bundle of stick jenga Got my little scythe & got 4 biiiiiig bundles of dry tall grass - u can pack as much as u can carry into a very small space. & then I just recently raked 6 inches of soil back to build a third core layer . Highly reccomend going crazy with cores. U can set aside a bed just for building soil. Stretching & balancing store bought soil out by a lot. Pop some potatoes or Jerusalem artichokes or ginger or garlic in there in the meantime. Very fun to know thats all getting eaten up by worms. Only way i know of to really improve drainage - also depending on ur area it would either increase or decrease drainage to your needs depending on what ur burying
Absolutely amazing
Awesome, clear, no nonsense. Adore, thank you 😊 ❤️
Great ideas! Thank you!
Good job. Would please advise which type of alcohol be used and the concentration 70 or 80 or 99% and the quantity against the herb? Please advise and thanking in advance
If in Europe it's 40% proof alcohol if in the USA anything from 80% upwards, but please do your own research
Aswell as making tinctures, I brush my thumb knuckle against my nettles daily and it rids me of arthritic pain in that area.
Just ran into you. Great talks!!
Good job Girlies. Love your English accents. I, by accident, became a stinging nettles farmer this year. I've always had a very large patch of them in my backyard. I just let them grow and multiply. I always knew I could do something with them. This year after, some serious research, I discovered what a super food it really is. So I decided to make myself some tea. I actually liked it, better as an iced tea. So one day I took a gallon of it to work and told everyone about it's health benefits and told them to try some. I was soon bringing leaves to everyone and more gallons of tea to the office. Damn, this was work and I'm just giving everything away. I experimented with orange peal, mango leaves and I thought wow you can do anything with plant, even smoothies. I had visions of a small nettles bar down town. Girlies thank you for your inspiration. Sincerely Bubus de Nebraska
