Wheelchair Skills Program
Canada
Приєднався 18 кві 2018
The Wheelchair Skills Program (www.wheelchairskillsprogram.ca) is a set of free online low-tech, high-impact, evidence-based resources for the assessment and training of the wheelchair skills of users (with or without the assistance of their caregivers) of manual wheelchairs, powered wheelchairs and motorized mobility scooters.
WARNING: Many wheelchair skills can be dangerous to perform. We strongly advise against attempting them, at least initially, without the presence of at least one knowledgeable and skilled spotter such as a therapist. A spotter is a person whose role is to ensure safety.

Performs stationary wheelie
Able-bodied therapeutic-recreation student practicing the performs-stationary-wheelie skill on a soft surface. During the early attempts, the spotter is holding the spotter strap too tightly and has a hand on a push-handle. During the second attempt, the spotter prevents a rear tip and the trainer explains how to perform a self-rescue by pulling back on the hand-rims while leaning forward. During the subsequent attempts, the learner experiences some success, achieving and maintaining the balance position for a few seconds. (00:33)

Ascends low curb
Переглядів 6221 день тому
Able-bodied therapeutic-recreation student performing the ascends-low-curb skill. During her first attempt, she tips over backwards to be caught by the spotter. She then gets one wheel onto the curb but not the other. During the second attempt, the trainer assists by preventing a rear tip and then helps her get the rear wheels onto the upper level. (00:38)

Able-bodied therapeutic-recreation student performing the gets-over-obstacle skill. She fails to pop the casters, resulting in a transient forward tip when they strike the obstacle. (00:03)
Rolls on soft surface
Переглядів 5721 день тому
Able-bodied therapeutic-recreation student performing the rolls-on-soft-surface skill. She has trouble getting the casters onto the soft surface, having popped the casters too early. Then she has trouble getting the rear wheels onto the soft surface until the trainer suggests that she lean forward. (00:16)
Ascends incline
Переглядів 4621 день тому
Able-bodied therapeutic-recreation student performing the ascends-incline skill. The learner pops the casters over the lower level-incline transition but rolls backward slightly to do so. He then experiences a transient rear tip before leaning forward. (00:07)
Performs ground transfers

Able-bodied therapeutic-recreation students performing the performs-ground-transfers skill. The learner on the right uses the sideways technique with the casters trailing forward allowing the wheelchair to tip forward. (00:07)

Turns while moving forward
Переглядів 1921 день тому
Able-bodied therapeutic-recreation student during a training exercise for the turns-while-moving-forward skill, negotiating a path through a series of plastic cups on the floor. The learner in the foreground turns too early, displacing the cup. The trainer points out the importance of waiting until the axle of the rear wheel is opposite the obstacle before completing the turn. (00:12)

Rolls forward
Переглядів 3021 день тому
Able-bodied therapeutic-recreation students performing the rolls-forward skill in a “conga line” (each learner following the learner ahead). The learner in the foreground exhibits good propulsion technique (long strokes, recovering the hands below the hand-rims). (00:06)

What's the point of this?
Agree!! My dad was wheelchair bound. One person can easily pull the chair up those stairs. Common sense.
So fucked up that I wanted you to pushed him down the stairs 😂 Internet has made me evil
I thought title should say decend to go down
Why don't they simply lift it?
Shouldn't this be DESCENDS stairs???
That should not be a 3 person job. 2 at most including the person in chair
God job... show how to do it with 80kg person:)
Well, I did it on my own. 22 steps, three times a day in Italy. It is important to think of it one step at a time. Looking at it as a flight of stairs which you have to manage with a grown adult, is simply terrifying. One step at a time, means that you can cope. FEEL THE FEAR AND DO IT ANYWAY!
how about a door that does not remain open ?
I like the wheelcher plese can you give❤❤❤
Thank you UA-cam for recommending me this .. I am at piece now
Where are the other videos of her?
Heya where are the videos of the woman with the c4 injury showing off her chair?

Great video!
But how do you go down 🤔
tuck your head down and roll
Why would you not use an actual wheelchair user??
Great content!
