Mrs. Gauer's Artroom
Приєднався 9 тра 2015
I am a public school secondary art teacher focusing mostly on drawing and painting. The videos on my channel are recorded demonstrations from my classroom. For that reason, many of these videos have issues including but not limited to interruptions, audio and recording issues. My objective is to get these videos posted quickly so my students have immediate access to the information so most videos are not edited.
Feel free to see finished examples of my students artwork on my Twitter Account @GauerStephanie or Instagram Account @mrs.gauersartroom.

me in 10 seconds: watching youtube shorts 😂 I've been learning gesture drawing for some time but still doing the 30sec - 2min drawings, still can't do the 10sec
My goal for a 10 second gesture drawing is not to end up with a fully developed or even 1/2 way developed drawing. My goal was just to loosen up and keep my attention in the actual figure. At best in a 10 second drawing, I have 1-2 lines that suggest or imply the figure.
Wonderful video
DONT USE THIS KLEENEX HACK IT STICKS LITTLE PEACES OF DUST LOOKING LIKE HAIRS IN YOUR DRAWING! AND BECAUS OF THE WAX LAYER YOU WONT BE ABLE TO GET THEM OUT!! If you use all color you won't see it much but you do see it with really darks colors!! My drawing is fu*****! 🤬 Just get a good towel and wet it a little bit!
Nice!!¡!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!❤ 0:25
What is the bigger “white” medium? Trying to learn to blend but end up making whole image just darker? Ty.
The medium is matte medium. It appears white when wet but it will dry clear once dry. I use matte medium for all classes because it removes the glare from the paint when photographing the student’s work. It also slows done the drying time and makes paint more transparent. Much better to use medium rather than water with acrylic paint to make transparent. Water breaks down the paint and makes it too fluid. Hope this helps!
Matte medium (not clear gesso) correct? Tyvm!
U have no idea how much this helped me❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ thanks
I Love You
I love you too big chonk
yo ahh weird af
Your videos are good
Very informative. Thanks
Sorry but too much random measuring. And viewers can’t see what you’re doing off camera. The banging in the background was a little annoying.
Metals class is next door so can’t change that. I would love to add another screen to show what I’m doing off camera but I don’t have the equipment to do that. As a classroom teacher you do the best you can with what you have. My students tend to do well with the measuring as it gives them something concrete to work with. Up to this point, they have had very little experience drawing from direct observation. Someone with more experience can do without all the measuring.
is anyone gonna talk about the loud banging in the background??
There is a metals class next door so the noise is an everyday occurrence. We get used to it.
Ohhh 😮
I wish I could have seen someone doing the measurements as you talked the students through the lesson. This was a good tutorial. Thank you.
nice helpful video.
Thank you!
lets get marrid
No sound?
There should be sound to this video. It works when I play it.
Tyy
Is it just my hearing and inaccuracy or does your voice remind me of Elsa from Atypical?
Well, that’s interesting 😜.
@@stephaniegauer8603 Very 😜
Thank you very much!

dudes tower is leaning in the back lol
Students were encouraged to create asymmetrical designs. It is very difficult to create a symmetrical hand built vessel in clay especially when it’s your first. It also encourages the students to create designs that are unique and beyond traditional forms.
Me before the deadline

Nicely done, although I wouldn't encourage teaching most to do it this quickly. You're getting the best understanding with 30-60 second gestures. Any quicker and its more for the sake of speed
For most of my students this is the first time ever drawing a figure from direct observation so they tend to be tight and too focused on details. By starting off at 10 seconds it prevents them from doing this and makes them just focus on the gesture. They only do about 2-4 of these to start then I gradually add time ending with a 20-30 minute drawing. Class periods range from 48 minutes to 1.5 hours so unfortunately that prevents us from doing any longer drawings and still providing a proper warm up.
I agree, I learned gesture from slow phase of observation. Also a lot of the great master's Like Brent Eviston, Steve Huston, Glenn Vilppu and etc. they focus more on the flow with a solid forms. Meaning that while doing the gestures they'll also took the forms into consideration, like flow then containment. Ohh well, she's the teacher and she had her way. There's a lot of variation of gestures so does techniques.
Thanks

Great vid
Great quick video explaining gesture!
Wow! Really? I am not trying to negate what you have said here...it’s just that I truly and honestly don’t understand or “get it”! It’s has always been my understanding (from not only reading comments on posts on F.B., but also from experience) that those with a light hand, who use many layers are the ones who don’t have issues with wax bloom, whereas those who only use a few harder layers do. I am one of those who is very light handed and use, depending on what I am coloring, 6-15 layers on just my normal, everyday images. However, on images that I deem as more “serious” I have used 15, 20, 25+ layers and never have an issue with wax bloom. Not even after the image I colored has sat for 2-3 years. The ONLY time I did so, was with the first couple of images I did using Prima Premier and used only a few layers, but harder pressure. I also know a few other colorists who work the same way as I do with a light hand and many light layers, that don’t have issues with the wax bloom. So, I ask you, what are we doing different that allows us to work without having to deal with this? Or..maybe I should be asking what you mean by “many layers”? As that can mean different things to different people.
My students do tend to use several layers and increase the pressure as they build the layers to get a burnished surface. Almost all students have a noticeable wax bloom 2 weeks after the project is finished. For my advanced students they typically see the wax bloom in just the areas they built up layers and increased pressure. The areas that have fewer layers do not get wax bloom. Hope this helps!
Thank you I really suck at collar bones lol
The outside of the eyes will show you the thickness of your neck
Good tip! Thank you!
o thank you it helped
why I cant draw neck hehe
Wow this help meh a lot I just wanted to be an good animator heheheh
Zach Dalangin I’m glad you found this helpful!
interesting !
Thanks so much it really help me
God'stime John Glad I was able to help
Lit 😎
I have a hard time with shadowing rocks
Anita Bloom The key with any form is to make sure there is a value change for each form change. If the form changes drastically then the value will also be drastically different.
Nice 👍🤗🔥
1:24 - 320 grit sandpaper is quite useful.
Wow
cool
Would the Kleenex smear the pigments?
I think so probably a little bit
Xanderful209 The Kleenex doesn’t smear the color pencil much but the trick is to constantly switch to a clean area of the tissue so as to not mix the colors.
Stephanie Gauer thank you for your response. I do have one more question however. What kind of acrylic coating do you use to seal your color pencil work ? I tried using the krylon spray varnish and it’s just made my drawing sticky after hours of drying.
Xanderful209 I use Krylon Crystal Clear Acrylic Coating.
This helped a lot w/ my online schooling. Thanks!
