Margin Call
Dale worked for Will is full of crap 😂
Can you do a video on Seath? He was fired with the rest of the staff after the selloff. He was crushed by it. I would think Will was right when he spoke to him. "Things are going to suck for a while and then they will be alright." He is young and smart enough to have some advanced degree. He can still go back to school and do something else for a living.
You seem to be on something here, I feel that it might be just a buzzword for getting it done ASAP.
They're all Ghosts.
How can it be cheating if its allowed??
Spooky. You’re probably right. Thanks for the content
Why in the world Ben Kingsley would be considered if Jeremy Irons is there?
This is so good!
Just in Time for Halloween 😄
Wasn't Carmelo the guy who escorted Eric Dale out of the office in the 1st scene?
No
@@St.Mauricebut isn't Carmello the guy who shows up at Eric's house while Will is wrapping up their morning conversation?
@ That’s him.
Carmello's "It's done" is my favorite line in the movie, it implies a reliability that does not bother with trifles such as legality.
You know he is coming in willingly or wearing a head bag.

Well played!
I was so invested in the beginning 😂
Nice
Lol nicely done. You got me
People with the wealth and power of Tuld have personal protection who are often ex-military/special-forces and get ‘things’ done. The senior management would know Carmello and probably several rumours of his activities and prefer not to look at him. Peter is smart and follows their cues but Seth is a bit clueless and looks. One of the interesting things about the Johnny Depp trial was getting insight into his private life and personal staff and friends. He too had a ‘Carmello’.
Yeah. My step-sisters husband has one. I’ve hung with him a half dozen times, sweetheart of a man. Once during a bbq at the beach he and I were running errands to and fro, then I noticed his gnarly hands, scars, and a really old tattoo of a seal with a ball on his nose. That’s when I figured out why he was stepbros ‘Special Assistant’.
Also it's most of the point of the film Michael Clayton. He's a fixer. He gets dropped into situations that need attention outside of the normal boundaries of work effort, resources etc.
Prior to this video I had believed, and still do, that Carmello sits opposite Tuld so that while everyone is watching Tuld, Carmello is watching everyone (and happens to be close to the door for countless security reasons). Your comment about several not preferring to look at him lends to that: the experienced professionals in the room know why he is there, Seth doesn't. In fact, many are probably reassured that he is there and after a day of uncertainty. Carmello adds one of the few voices of certainty with "It's done", as someone else pointed out elsewhere in these comments.
No. I am not buying it.
Bezel Media, you f@&*ing win.
Carmello is Mikey "Grab Bag" Palmice! He also plays the CEO of a company believed to be Lehman, so Dick Fuld, in The Big Short.
You must be from Bank of America.

As a risk professional, former corporate lawyer, and having worked in investment banking, I have some insights into how these things work. Risk management in financial services, particularly in the 2000s, was always the poor cousin and had very little corporate power. Regarding staff firings, we don't find out in the film, but what normally happens is that the edict comes down from on high to reduce staff costs - particularly when things are starting to get tighter. How that is implemented is usually up to the individual areas. I always assumed that Sarah fired Eric (or was perhaps told to fire Eric) because it was either that or fire multiple people. Having more people is beneficial in an area doing something as complicated as financial risk, and Peter was super smart (and presumably paid a lot less than Eric). It wouldn't have been an ideal situation, but Sarah probably had few options. And did her risk unit fail in not getting to the bottom of the magnitude of the risk earlier? I don't think so because in the real world almost none of the investment banks, funds etc identified the risk early and took steps to limit their exposure. And to the extent that Sarah's area identified the risk, they reported it accordingly, and it was disregarded. The company continued its exposure regardless. Although the very nature of the investment industry is risk taking. You have to take risks to make profits, but you need to properly understand the risk - and clearly they didn't, both in the film and the real world. I do wonder now whether these organisations are putting more resources into risk, or at least taking it a bit more seriously now when they raise issues.
Naw, he was thinking which Eric. Common name
Margin Call
Margin Call is the best. Everyone is perfect.
The key in risk management is not WHETHER you communicated a risk, but HOW. If you have not quantified the potential cost, it frankly doesn't matter. Here is where Peter excelled. He was not only able to see how the risk actually worked, but what it meant for the company. Sarah and Eric both failed in this crucial aspect, which is why they both had to be fired. It is not always fair, but it is the risk management folk's primary duty to not just identify a risk, but understand the impacts and costs. The unspoken story here is that the risk was identified, but not in a way that made action imperative. Building urgency is a key aspect of risk management, and one that they both failed to perform. In many ways, risk management is like change management--and both departments MUST work together. This critical relationship is missing in the story, but one can assume it was missing straight across Wall Street. Organizational change will never even start until you have convinced the executives of the urgency of the necessary change.
Margin Call mentions dates once. When Eric Dale tells his story about building a bridge, he talks about how it was 22 years ago in 1986. That puts the events of Margin Call in 2008.
Interesting, I thought Jared didn’t say anything because he didn’t want to be the first one to suggest the nuclear option (selling it all). He wanted to make sure Tuld would the one to initiate it. As a former trader, selling everything in a day (as Rogers’ character states) would be the death knell for any fixed income trading desk.
Anyone else understands Sarah and Eric had an affair ?
Sarah gets a dignified firing in private. Eric Dale is intentionally humiliated. He has to listen to two low-level HR women lecture him. He gets escorted out of the building by a security goon. Will and Sam say they had nothing to do with it and they were probably telling the truth. Jared didn't know he got fired. So it had to have been either Tuld or Sarah who ordered him let go in the most vindictive way possible.
I love jareds warning of " nobody here is smart enough, not even the rocket scientist " like you just know qlready whoever this guy is, shit just got real
At those levels, they are all 100% psychopaths. The movie is misleading.
The guy behind Tuld, on his right, seems to be wearing a red tie.
I don't think Eric Dale was fired because he might leak a secret. I think he was doom spreader, and they didn't want to hear it. They only wanted to hear from people who agreed with them. That's not unusual in business. I don't think there's any secret. This is about MBS. If people make their house payments, the bonds continue to grow in value, right? And the firm gets rich. But if people stop paying, because they had adjustable rate mortgages, the bonds lose value, which is what happened. The VAR didn't work because historically, people always made their house payments. The fault was over exposure in MBS market. In a half dozen firms, MBS bonds were taking over. What Jared and Sarah should have done sooner was throttle back on those bonds. But they held out too long. None of these people were really doing their homework, because they trusted the housing market which had been totally compromised by regulatory changes started by the Clinton administration.
