Good job, Pat. I see that box is still serving you well.
Awesome, Pat!
Hi Pat, A bit late, but I just came across your lovely version of the High Level H'pipe, so lovely the way you play that! Almost like the way my friend & mentor Jim Collins thought me a few years ago! Must check out your other clips when I can get some time. I'm playing a B/C 2 row Dino Bafetti Box for about 8 yrs now since I started in mar 2006, the exciting part is at 54 I've just purchased a lovely Old Grey Paolo Soprani (that needs some TLC & tuning, that will be a milestone when that happens by the end of this year!! Love the Paolo sound, your a gentleman, thanks for posting your lovely music! Slainte, I will share this with Jim, Liam :)
Good job on the hornpipes and jigs. I used to hear you play at the cieli's and always enjoyed it. Now it seems that wherever I go and no matter what kind of music i play, people will ask me if I know a fella named Pat Cloonan. You have your fans, Pat
It would be helpful if musicians were better with the facts when announcing tunes. James Hill actually lived 1811-1853 in Newcastle. He wrote both hornpipes. They are written in B flat. Mr. Cloonan seems to be playing them in G. It is possible to play a BC Paolo Soprani in B flat.
Pat does know its by james hill most players dont ! also its hard enough to play in g so i am happy to hear it in G it is folk music at its best
It has to be said they're quite often played in G in sessions, so I have no problem with that. I very much enjoyed the playing. He added a lot of "colour" with extra notes which I haven't played in those tunes. But you're right about the dates of James Hill's birth and death. Also, he wasn't originally English but lived in the Newcastle area, as it is thought he was born in or near Dalmellington, Ayrshire, Scotland, but moved south as a child.
@@frankpallister Bb works great on fiddle, but G is much kinder for flute and uilleann pipes 😊
I think Joe Burke was the first to record HLH in the key of G on a B/C box. My mentor Pat Flanagan played it in the key of G on his D/D# box and yes it made the tune accessible to flute and uilleann pipe players. On fiddle it’s about equally difficult to play HLH in G or Bb, but to my ears and fingers the latter turns out better, the ornaments just flow.
like it i was looking for that tune everywhere
Thanks for the great tunes!
Nice . James Hill was a fiddler in the Newcastle area in the late 1700s I believe
Absolutely fabulous! I want to be able to play like this one day. Thanks for your great playing
Great Tune Pat!! It has a nice melody..
great stuff!
