Why Self-Improvement is an Illusion – Machiavelli’s Philosophy of the Downgoing
In this video, we explore the concept of self-improvement through the lens of Machiavelli's philosophy, dissecting why endless self-betterment can sometimes feel like empty indulgence. Drawing on his ruthless realism, we'll dive into Machiavelli's notion of the "downgoing"-the idea that true strength often requires embracing difficult truths over superficial gains. This approach challenges the popular self-help narrative, urging us to confront reality directly, accept our flaws, and use action, not motivation, to drive meaningful change.

*Schopenhauer's "problem" was that he was most likely raised to think that humans were special.* Instead of realizing that life is a struggle for ALL LIVING THINGS (and we are just another animal on earth), he was most likely brought up with religion, which suggests that humans are _above_ the basic struggle for survival ("God is in control", etc.). His attitude was the result of him trying to reconcile what he was raised to believe, with what he was _actually_ observing. It has been said that the most cynical people are actually the most optimistic. And the reason why they are cynical, is because their optimism was crushed by reality. It makes sense, doesn't it? Think about what we were told about women. The love and devotion. The desire and sex. Romance and relationships. Family. That's what we were _told._ Now think about what we actually _see_ juxtaposed to what we were taught...BY WOMEN. Only an intellectual dunce is unaffected by that.

Here's the thing. Nietzche never victimized himself, never lied, but rather embraced his struggling existence. He achieving something valuable through his writing is exactly what a philosopher does lol. He hit the nail on the head about the lack of moral values without god and his fears of the future societies. We're seeing it in full display today. He also thought that philosophers arising in a society is a sympton of weakness and decadence in such society, so he being weak in 1870 germany wasn't really far shoot. Mustache man appeared some decades later as a reaction of such weakness, for good or for bad.
