You can’t emulate that of which you can’t measure let alone understand. False? So it’s not just about selling you crap? I think it is. Selling you emulations of ancient pieces of gear which are certainly “behind the times” seems silly. It is all about ears… If and when yours evolve… you’ll know. “The times” are full of dull yet harsh aspects. We might have people mixing more bass into their mixes … but it’s usually a blob of smeary mess. Perhaps we should all “get with the times” and let Ai do the work.

@@BlueHouseSoundStudio Wrong again, everything can be measured and emulated, sound can be recorded, the sound for ever component and ratio through its range plotted. It is only a matter recording data points. The human ear will not be able to discern difference. True many plugins today have not reached this point, but it will not be long at all when the entire industry will be mostly digital. Even analog software in some cases have converted to digital signal processing in lieu of the circuit chain. If someone wants harmonics in their mix then they add them in... I agree analog gear is great, and can not be matched for the feel and vibe you get from the actual piece of hardware. But it will not be necessary soon, except maybe in the recording phase...

Whats necessary and used by the industry is a separate discussion and can of worms. If you don’t want to acknowledge the marketing aspect of my video that’s ok but I think we both can agree that we really don’t need another 1176 emulation. Analog isn’t the only option… It’s certainly an aesthetic, luxury and choice. I’m not sure if you watched the whole video but it’s focusing mainly on hardware not just analog and I further discuss that you should use whatever tools you can. I’m well aware of plug-ins that can do things that hardware cannot, but it doesn’t mean they sound good. Nobody needed “soothe” on vocals for some 60 years. When I use plug-ins like this, I hear more problems created than I am potentially fixing. From what I understand about people who measure things… there’s always more to measure. The further you go … the less black and white it gets. To my ear… plugins all sound like plugins… I really look forward to the possible day when they don’t.

Great Comment. Use what you can… learn what you can. Stay objective. I found one main thing… that should be considered. Plugins always sound like plugins. For better or worse. If you are into Older music… like me I like classic rock and stuff from the 60, 70, 80, 90s and some 2000s See if someone on UA-cam has uploaded songs you like in Vinyl form… (Non remastered versions) You may be surprised, even with a digital upload transfer of the vinyl what you hear. @@BlueHouseSoundStudio I own vinyls and one of those low quality players from Amazon lol. I mainly listen to hardcore/punk from the early 2000s. And I totally know what you mean. Again, I agree that something made in analog is just sonically different, and arguably better. I will say though, I do think that recording philosophies have a lot to do with the way mixes have changed so much. Like they go hand in hand. Every engineer knows the importance of source tones. Micing a cab for hours to make sure the guitar is good at the source just isn’t the same as being able to change the guitar through a sim whenever u want. it makes the engineer less worried abt the source tone bc they think it can be “fixed” with a plugin or amp sim. when in reality, the quality of the source influences the quality of the finished product. Same could be said for vocals, drums, etc. “Oh we’ll just use triggers and samples if one of the hits aren’t captured clean”. It’s all a downward spiral from there. Gotta care abt the source tone.

@@riotxo I grew up on Punk. If you look back at different eras there are always inundated with the technology of the time… for better or worse… We have an opportunity to pick the best stuff from all eras… and yet that’s not happening for 99%. I think recording quality was at its lowest in the mainstream around 2008. I call it the dead zone… not sure if it was the converters or old plugins or complete lack of tape … but things took a big nose dive… it’s at least more diverse these days although we are in the Wild West now … No man’s land.

@@BlueHouseSoundStudio can you elaborate on the “Wild West” thing lol. just want to say I found ur channel from the Jerry Finn chain and have learned a lot. To put things into perspective, I’m 19. 99% of the information I know abt audio engineering pre-2010 is literally from digging through 15 year old gearslutz forums lol. So when u say “recording quality took a dive in 2008” or “we’re in the Wild West now”, I only have so much context for what you mean bc, sadly, I wasn’t really around for any of it. I really like your channel and hope you make more videos eventually bc learning abt audio engineering and the history/philosophies it goes through is so damn fun and useful to learn

so to make it simple ig lol, why is “now” the Wild West as opposed to previous decades? My impression was that methodologies and mixing philosophies are more out in the open than ever. It was my understanding that back in the day, everyone kept their secrets and you either had to figure it out yourself or bc lucky enough to intern/learn under someone else. Again, I literally wasn’t alive in the 90s, so correct me if I’m wrong.

Yes, Dogmatic Bedroom bros… losing their minds, calling me Dogmatic… All I did was break out of the box and found out for myself. People are really selective when posting negative comments. I have since changed my theory. I actually don’t think plugins will match hardware ever. Look at movies… CGI isn’t really getting better and practical effects are still King.

Cool songs… the production sounds like all ridiculous drums and loud but smeared vocals… guitars pop out when needed but Fidelity wise, they sound like a blurry mushy chippy pixilated mess. I have two theories on what he was thinking. 1. They have an agenda to push. They are aligning with the agenda that we all sit at home with fake amps and fake tools isolated alone, and play with ourselves at our desks. Although I completely agree with your comment, there will be other comments with kids sitting back and saying. “SEE Blink did it!”. 2. A band of that caliber is not allowed to eclipse itself. they are not allowed to be better than their Classics, which made them. They are supposed to just carry the brand on and be cheerleaders for their own legend, if that makes any sense. So in essence, they are not allowed to be as good as they were. Obviously money is not an object. Convenience is hardly an object when you can hire people that know what’s up and assistants. If you look at it from a business perspective and a corporate setting, it makes perfect sense. and yes, they have board meetings on the entity, which is blink-182… operation blink-182 I’m sure has paid a lot of jobs all around. Maybe it’s like dripping out the quality feeder tube style… first Tom comes back and maybe the record after this one they wake the fuck up. The most obvious is that clean tone on anthem part 3. You can’t tell me that doesn’t sound much more than a straight DI box clean into your preamp. Jerry liked to use his twin for most of blinks clean tones. At this point, I just have to accept it and apply my own theories and quality to my own pieces of art. If I start shaking my head… It will surely spin off. Cheers

@@BlueHouseSoundStudio i believe its not, most of the SPX i´ve seen are green with the letters in black, this one looks waaay cooler IMO.

I just looked up other videos and it seems like the letters are all green with a green to black background. I think you can adjust the brightness. The main thing might be my color correction/ lut choices I used for the video. I have seen cool OLED replacements out there for things. I have a cool orange display I put in my Yamaha dx7 synth. ​@@BlueHouseSoundStudio Thought I responded to this, but apparently it didn't save lol. That'as awesome that you have Jerry's blue bottle! I heard he loved that thing. I'm used a million mics but unfortunately never had the chance to one. Take good care of it man! As for Skyward, I've never been there but I'm guessing Ed owns it? Did he work at Conway in 2008? For a second I thought he might have bought it but I'm pretty sure Buddy still owns it. I did a podcast with drummer Mike Fasano where we talk about Jerry a little bit, he and Jerry were tight. The podcast is "Starting A Record Label" and yeah I started that podcast like 2 months before the pandemic hit lol. I hope in the future I can do a small documentary about Jerry. I know he wasn't a big person for the spotlight, but in the world of the internet, it's a shame that there's not much out there about him.

Like any record it’s case by case… I would imagine all of these scenarios could be true… comping takes using tape goes back many decades… another untouchable luxury perhaps to have in the tape world. Green Day dookie… the engineers and producers would literally take tres drum playing and cut it up and paste it all together to arrange the best parts for the song… the same thing can be studied with Lars’s drumming on the Black album. I would say do what ever is necessary to get a solid take and get across whatever it is you are going for. Cheers.

One is really enough to point the right people in the right direction… I’m having more fun making records than creating videos for a platform that’s getting increasingly crappy with their policies as well as content … It’s really hard to learn anything from YT these days and I find it to be a low quality big waste of time nowadays. Every creator wants to “give some big secret” but makes you sit through a 20 min video to find a secret that doesn’t exist. UA-cam by nature is one big clickbait waste of time and I don’t see it getting better. Cheers
