    This is a better list than most others I've seen. I do agree FRwL is Connery's best Bond movie, and along with Casino Royale, Skyfall, Goldeneye and License to Kill, is in my top six. I would put Live and Let Die, Man with the Golden Gun, and especially Goldfinger a little higher, but otherwise pretty solid list.

    Madonna's Die Another Day is a very fun song imho. You still feel that Bond vibe but yes, Madonna should have done a Bond theme in the 90's when she was experimenting with musical genres like Jazz, New Jack Swing, R&B, Lounge, Broadway music, Trip Hop, Soul and House. In the 2000's she focused on Dance/Pop too much.

    Judy Geeson (Beryl Evans) is now the only survivor of the four main stars of this classic film, as sadly Pat Heywood (Ethel Christie) passed away on June 26th. 2024 aged 92, i am sure many will agree with me, all four gave such wonderfully superb performances of the real life people they were portraying.

    With all the Bond references in this movie alone, I'm surprised that A. The film doesn't start with a homage to the Gunbarrel intro and B. Finn McMissile isn't voiced by one of the former Bonds i.e. Roger Moore or Pierce Brosnan.

    (Haven't seen Coco, although it looks gorgeous.) Personally, I would've ranked The Incredibles, Finding Nemo, and Cars above WALL-E. I really enjoyed WALL-E a lot more than I expected to enjoy it, and I think its messages about environmental preservation and the emotional awakening that than occur when you see why the world turned into what it is are great themes. However, I think that Pixar's done more relatable movies, such as the 3 I just listed. Finding Nemo is Pixar's #1 for me.

    It's definitely better than Cars 2. What I really enjoyed was the scene where that old pickup guy Smokey is talking to Lightning about how much happier Doc became when he discovered him. That was the scene that made me think, "Alright, alright, Pixar. You did much better than last time." Maybe the accident could've had a greater effect on the plot's progression and Lightning's psyche than it did, but otherwise, much better than the last one. It's really too bad that Cars 2 turned out the way it did, as I think that Cars 2 (more so than Cars 3 itself) is what brings down Cars 3 a notch. We don't get to see the mature phase of Lightning's racing career in the 2nd movie, because someone at Pixar, probably John Lasseter, was like, "herp derp, let's turn Cars into a gritty spy-action flick!! We'll make Mater da main guy, too! :P". If they would've focused on Lightning's intensifying rivalry with Francesco, then it would've made the sunset of his racing career in Cars 3 more sympathetic to watch. I bet this movie would've performed way better at the box office, too if Cars 2 hadn't burned away a lot of the goodwill from part 1. With inflation and the popularity of Pixar and Cars, part 3 should've easily blown way past 1 & 2. But, a lot of moviegoers were still burned out on Cars after part 2, understandably (and unfortunately). With that said, they never topped part 1. That movie was just so charming.

    What a pleasant surprise to see LTK at number 1. I have it at 6 on my list, but I need to watch the films again as when I looked at the list today films higher or lower then they should have been. Dalton is my favourite Bond and I love The Living Daylights. One of the Bond sites does not rate Licence to Kill as it is too Miami Vice. The show was wonderful and I am happy with the comparison.

    Rip Sean Connery and Roger Moore crazy to think two of the best Bond actors are gone now and George Lazenby is the oldest surviving Bond actor. I grew up on Pierce Brosnan when was a young 9 year old kid when he debuted in 1995 with Goldeneye and was in college when Daniel Craig debuted in 2006 with Casino Royale which is one of my favorite Bond films next to Goldeneye.

    Intelligently articulated sir. I wouldn't call Licence to Kill charming by any stretch! Of course, there are a few charming moments care of Felix and Della's relationship with Bond; and there are charming scenes involving each of the two Bond girls, not central to the gritty narrative. But the premise is extremely charmless. You admit your no. 1 is based on preference not on merit - I wonder whether you should now try a ranking based on objective criteria for comparison

    1) On Her Majesty’s Secret Service - action AND romance 2) You Only Live Twice - this is Bond's DNA 3) Goldeneye - so many great things, but somehow less a total of the parts 4) The Spy Who Loved Me - great classic stuff, but the ending is a bit meh for me 5) Goldfinger - classic formula 6) Casino Royale - great action and writing, but too emo 7) Moonraker - fantastic looking and fun 8) Tomorrow Never Dies - maybe too much great action 9) Octopussy - great action and well paced 10) From Russia with Love - the train is great, nothing else is 11) A View to a Kill - bizarre, bad and fun 12) Skyfall - a bit dour, emo and blue/orange, but well made 13) The World is Not Enough - soap opera feel, but almost works 14) The Man with the Golden Gun - bad but fun 15) Die Another Day - first half is fantastic, 2nd half has issues 16) For Your Eyes Only - some good action, bad villain 17) No Time to Die - well made but not much fun 18) Live and Let Die - just a chase film 19) License to Kill - Miami Vice 20) The Living Daylights - a bit dry and not much fun 21) Thunderball - long, waterlogged and often bad 22) Dr. No - not much going on 23) Quantum of Solace - maybe the action is good with a different editor 24) Diamonds Are Forever - just bad 25) Spectre - the worst 2nd half ever

    Perhaps the most overrated Bond film ever. Guy Hamilton’s “direction” displays a remarkable lack of style or imagination - and they let him do four! The process shots are mediocre. From Bond’s duck-on-the-head disguise and the rest of that asinine pre-credit sequence, to the parachute climax, “Goldfinger” seems like a series of comic skits. Witness the frolicking in the barn, and the troops being gassed by the planes! Gert Frobe in the title role is the best part of this. But the rest of the cast defies credulity, especially Pussy Galore, who conveniently falls for Bond. Felix Leiter is totally miscast. Connery is already showing signs of waltzing through the part. At times Bond comes across as incompetent; after botching the car chase, he spends most of the film as a captive. That Goldfinger would free him from that laser is totally unbelievable! Bob Simmons’s action scenes are less-than-stellar, and that includes the fight with Oddjob. The battle between the US Army and Goldfinger’s men is just plain dull. Rather than creating suspense and tension (in the style of Terence Young and Peter Hunt), Hamilton seems intent on being slick and cute. His work does not hold up well!

    Having hit his peak with the excellent “For Your Eyes Only,” old Sir Roger graced us again with his presence (after his usual games for a salary increase). As critics said, Moore served as a stand-in for the stuntman. The character of Bond plays second fiddle to action, locations, and Moore’s idiotic puns. Not to mention a disjointed story involving a deranged Russian, nuclear weapons, Faberge eggs, an “Afghan” prince, and a luxury hotel in India - headquarters for a Swedish woman in Indian clothing. Louis Jourdan follows the Eon tradition of a fine actor wasted as a poorly developed villain (Afghan prince, really?). The tasteless portrayal of “India” relies on stereotypes: thugs in loincloths, snake-charmers, rope tricks, nail-beds, and the hero tossing money to villagers as a distraction. Backgammon was the setting for the big confrontation, rather than chemin-de-fer. The dinner scene was repugnant. The scooter-taxi chase, coupled with the tennis gag, was simply asinine. (And that whole sequence was done at Pinewood.) Moore’s “humour” caps it all off: handing money to an Indian colleague with, “Here, this should keep you in curry for awhile.” As for “Never Say Never Again,” we’re talking about a Bond film that received far better reviews than “Octopussy.” Sure, it made $25 million less (big victory for Mr Broccoli), but was still a great success - not bad for an independent film! One critic preferred Connery’s “worldliness” to Moore’s “twerpishness.” The majority of critics welcomed Connery’s return, saying that he still looked the part. Sean Connery was fitter, handsomer, and more enthusiastic than in his last two Eon films. He was the glue that held the production together during difficult times. The script was leaner, wittier, and more cohesive than “Octopussy.” Thank you, Jack Schwartzman, RIP.

    As a George Lazenby fan since the film’s initial release (Christmas 1969), his “best moments” are the best Bond moments overall. Thank you for highlighting these five scenes, well-chosen! Practically by instinct, Lazenby made, in my opinion, the best James Bond of all. He was fortunate to have had Peter Hunt directing him. (The next five films did not have actual directors or scripts.) No, I did NOT miss Sean Connery at all! Regarding moments, I would add the “gun barrel” entrance, dropping to one knee. Then, his flirtations with Moneypenny. His first meeting with Draco. Visiting M at his home. Blofeld revealing his plans to Bond. Finally, asking the St Bernard for “five-star Hennessy.” Thank you for appreciating the fine work in this film. It may be difficult for a generation weaned on Roger Moore - but then, Timothy Dalton proved to be traumatic for them, as well!

  • @thomaschacko6320
    @thomaschacko6320 Рік тому

    Hallelujah! The one time Roger Moore actually played the role of Ian Fleming’s James Bond. Not since “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service” had we been offered an actual Bond adventure, without the campy, comedic moments or Moore’s customary cuteness. Not having Guy Hamilton or Lewis Gilbert direct was a good beginning! John Glen followed in the tradition of Terence Young and Peter Hunt by having a clear sense of Fleming’s world. A solid script, excellent cast, and fabulous action made this a standout - plus, the absence of Moore’s usual wardrobe! Unfortunately, Glen (unlike Hunt) gave in to pressure to revert to the old stupidities in his next two films. The poor man also dealt with an aging Moore! We had to wait until “Licence To Kill” for another serious Bond epic. Oh, well, what do I know? They were all profitable.

  • @thomaschacko6320
    @thomaschacko6320 Рік тому

    The best Bond film, starring the best Bond - George Lazenby. Doesn’t come any better than this! Peter Hunt was determined to make this film different, and he succeeded admirably. I first saw this in New York City’s Times Square, in widescreen, during Christmas 1969. From the fight on the beach, and the classic quip, “This never happened to the other fellow” (inspired by Lazenby himself), I knew that James Bond was in good hands! Did I miss the bored, overweight Sean Connery? Not one bit! It is too bad that Lazenby missed out on the fame and money but, as he makes clear in the fabulous documentary, “Becoming Bond,” he was intent on being his own man and “writing his own story.” Now in his 80s and still fit, he comes across as what we would expect in a retired 007. Thank you, George, for bringing us the most athletic, daring, and human Bond!

    Hello gentlemen. I so enjoyed watching your video celebrating the films of Timothy Dalton. I'm glad that his tenure as Bond has become well-appreciated over the decades. I don't usually traffic on UA-cam, nor leave comments - even on videos I enjoy - But in this instance, I thought I would drop in and share a link to a video I put together a couple years ago, chronicling my stint as a background extra in License to Kill down in Key West back in 1988. My two friends and I somehow managed incredible access to the set, and were permitted to take lots of photos of the filming. (Which would NEVER be allowed today) ...I thought you guys might enjoy it.
