Just out of curiosity, is the mechanism of action for ethanol closer to that of barbiturates or benzodiazepines? Or, more to the point, what IS it's mechanism of action? I can't seem to get a clear answer to this, not even from Wikipedia where random armchair chemists can just take a wild guess and pass it off as fact. Obviously it involves GABA receptors in some vague, generic way, presumably GABA-A, but that's about all I know. I always just assumed it had some very simple mechanism of action related to it's solvent properties but people much smarter than me (99.98% of the human population and so far 100% of the feline 🐈 population questioned on this) have pointed out that this is incorrect and that I'm very stupid. Could you explain the pharmacology of ethanol in somewhat simplistic terms? I scored a 95 on my most recent IQ test so apparently I'm very very SMRAT, but just so I can mentally process your explanation without having to pause my reading to constantly look up terms or use a thesaurus to dumb them down a little bit, can you explain it all in basic terms? Thanks! I owe you a beer if you ever find yourself in the Dallas, Texas part of the world!

excellent video. I'm bipolar with psychotic features / schizoaffective. the way students learn about psychosis is quite primitive. when I was in the psych ward the students did not know how to treat me because of the way I present. "what do I have to do to make you believe me" I remember howling at the head psychiatrist. you express total flatness they don't take you seriously, you sob and scream and disturb other patients in the er and they say "well, why aren't you in a day program? why are you trying to be hospitalized?", I remember telling the psychiatrists young fill in that my auditory hallucinations are directionless therefore I interpret them to be in my head and he started arguing with me... like bro what
