Edit 12/22/23: So I have learned from a friendly comment that I didn’t actually “push” this film, but rather just over exposed it! I thought I understood pushing and pulling film but it looks like I need a little more education haha. Nonetheless, I accidentally overexposed the film by shooting at 200 iso, but I think the pictures turned out ok still. Hope you guys enjoy! Hey guys, thanks for cl...

I didn't actually steal my grandma's Polaroid, I just need that clicks. She did however kindly gift it to me to use. I shot this back in October but have been super busy with school until recently. Hopefully, you enjoy this video and please leave a like! The song in this video is Ur Ok - Aso Link to the song (I do not own it): ua-cam.com/video/R6SgQzf93nw/v-deo.html

Well, I'm back? I have been wanting to get back into UA-cam but life has been crazy. I have recently picked up DJI's wireless microphone system and have been wanting to test it out and make a short video. Please let me know what you would like to see, and give me some advice for things I can improve. Thanks! Music by: tunetank.com/tracks/6077-another-day
Lightroom presets are a scam... and here's why

Guys and gals, thanks for tuning into another video! In this one I discuss my opinions on why buying user made presets is a waste of money and why you should just learn on your own how to create the look you want. Keep it up man
Thanks so much! Will do.
Looking foward to use this film during the winter, thanks for the video now i will be aware of the possible results
Just make sure you adjust your settings accordingly! Snow and bright scenery can mess with many in camera light meters I’ve come to find out. Best of luck and hope you have good results!
Maybe they aren’t the results you were looking for but really cool pictures!
Hey thanks for the comment! And yes very true, not exactly what I was expecting, but as I go back and look at these images more, I appreciate the look a little bit more! That’s film photography for ya!
Great video! So it’s the same as Flic Film Electra 100?
Thank you! And yes it’s the same. From the articles I read, they are both re-spooled Kodak Aerocolor IV.
That near cresting wave in the beach scene ❤👌
Thank you! This is still to this day one of my favorite photos I have taken.
do you develop your own film?
Thanks so much! And no I don’t, I have it developed and scanned at a lab local to me. I do want to try and develop some one day, but I also don’t trust myself to not ruin the roll!
love your channel!

Me parece una película con mucha personalidad. Me gusta...
Gracias! Pensaba eso también. Aunque las fotos no salieron como quería, todavía me gustan y esta película es muy único.
Where did you get the cool wall hanging poster? I love ultramax its great
Hi Jack, thanks for the comment! I got the poster from a gift shop at an art museum in Utah actually! I’m not sure where they sourced it from unfortunately. And ultramax is very fun, I will definitely be shooting another roll sometime!
I love saturation and nature should be saturated.
I agree! Thanks for watching the video!
Enjoyed this mate 👍 Looks like I'll be trying some Ektar. It would be perfect for the green hills of the Peak District.
Thank you! It really does well with green. Definitely worth it!
Need to get this film!
Yes you should! It’s always worth trying new film! Thanks for clicking on my video :)
I like Ektar for it's low grain and nice saturation but it is a low ASA film. I'd like to see an Ektar 200.
That would be super interesting, would love to see a few different film stocks with higher ISO’s
Maybe try pushing for 200, and see how that looks
@@blanked3 That's a great idea. You might even set your ASA/ISO for 400 and see what happens.
@@ShadesOClarity Perhaps
Great video, like the soundtrack too!
Thank you so much! I appreciate it :)
I love how Ektar handles vivid colors and work perfectly with Hawaii vibe.
Me too! I glad I went with Ektar.
bro, I love your photos!
Thanks so much!
Lovely
I appreciate that :)
love this
Thank you!
5:44 the perfect film stock for these beautiful colours. I bought two rolls of Ektar a year or so ago and did such a terrible job with the first roll that I've been a bit afraid to shoot the second roll. Sunshine + blues and greens are what it needs!
Hey thanks for the comment! And that’s one of the joys or frustrations about film haha! I’ve had many rolls where I didn’t shoot and expose them correctly as well. As much as it sucks to not get good images, it’s almost a motivation to get back out there and try it again. Hopefully you go shoot that Ektar and get some good results! It definitely favors bright scenes and lots of green!
Most 400 ISO films are actually 200! Kodak dropped safety factor! More exposure better, stronger colors and Finer grain! Oh! Ultra Max is Portra!
That’s good to know! Thanks!
Snow scenes are difficult to meter correctly, as the meter will interpret white as neutral grey, hence underexposing your scene by a stop or two. And since this film is already optimistically rated at ISO200 (really, it's ISO125 technically), it is very easy to underexpose. When you shot an extremely bright scene that appears white and you want to be white on the image, you need to overexpose by at least a stop.
Hey thanks for the reply! That makes a lot of sense. I had a feeling that the snowy scenes might have been throwing my meter off. Glad to hear there is a reason for the dark images and now I know for the next roll I shoot. Thanks so much! And I appreciate you watching my video!
I always shoot umax at 200 iso
That’s good to know! I think most the pictures overexposed look great. Will have to try it and see if there are other films that would benefit from it. Thanks for the comment!
Pushing is a development process which includes underexposing + overdeveloping. If you rate your film higher than box speed (i.e., shooting a 400 speed film at 800), but do not overdevelop the film to compensate for the underexposure then that is just underexposing. In your case, you overexposed the film by rating the film lower than box speed. You did not pull the film because in order to pull film you must overexpose + underdevelop the film. Most people out there do not know the difference between these, and throw these terms around without knowing what it all means and what it’s actually doing to the image. Hope this helps clear these concepts up for you. Also, overexposure or pulling a film is better than underexposing or pushing a film. The latter crushes the blacks and leaves you with muddy shadows and green color casts on your images.
Thanks for the comment! I’ve come to understand that whole process a little better after your comment and a previous one! I watched a few videos prior and I think they just confused me more than cleared things up, so thanks for making it more simple! I’m glad that my mistake actually added to the look of the film and didn’t ruin it. Definitely want to try actually messing around with pushing and pulling now that I understand it a little better. Thanks for the help and for watching the video!
@@suchaphotoguy Hi there, i would like to add that if it is ok to over-expose color film without adjusting developing time (as you just did) the same cannot be said about B&W film, if you over-exposed your HP5 by one stop, it might be wise to actually "pull it" when developing the film. This process actually helps with reducing the contrast of the film and some people do it on purpose to make sure they get plenty of information in both highlights and shadows when faced with very contrasty light/subjects. Hope that was helpful, keep on shooting !
Hey, thanks so much for the advice! I didn’t know that, but it makes sense. I’m excited to try all this out now that I understand things a little better. Thanks for the help and for clicking on the video!
Hi cole, if u left the camera setting at 200 and shooting a 400 speed film like ultramax, you are not pushing it, but u are over exposing it by 1 stop which is actually great for a color film but one to each own, if u r pushing it means the camera is set at say, 800 iso and tell the lab to push process by +1 and usually it’s more contrast and saturated, love the outcomes nonetheless
Oh man I had it all backwards! Thanks for the info. I feel like I’ve seen so many videos and it’s never laid out that clear. Thanks for the clarification! Glad that my little mistake still resulted with ok imagines. Thanks for the info and for clicking on the video!
Looks like the photos turned out awesome despite your accidental pushing of the film :)
Thank you! I’m looking forward to doing it intentionally next time :)
Photos start at 2:31 :)
This is cool! I just shot some Kodak Gold and Ektar on a recent trip to Colorado and I'm hoping to make a video similar to this. I'll definitely be watching this again for inspiration. Great photos!
Thank you Noah for your comment! I am falling in love with Kodak Gold, but want to try other film stocks. Someone else recommended Ektar to me, I hope to try that soon. Please do make a video, I love watching film photography videos and so making my own was a blast. I recommend it! Feel free to let me know when you get yours all put together and uploaded. Would love to check it out :)
Loved the photos and the music! Cheers
Thank you so much!
Hey man there are some really nice pictures on this video my personal favorite is the wide picture of the waterfall, a little recommendation I’d give you as a viewer is to show the pictures only once after you talk about them instead of showing each picture twice that way it builds up an anticipation and gets the viewer more invested in your videos. Anyway you have some nice content don’t stop!!!
Hey! Thanks so much for commenting and for your advice. I’m glad to get a viewers perspective on things! I’ll definitely make sure to work on building anticipation like you said. More videos to come!
Loved your photos
Thank you!
Ektar 100 is my favorite film stock; the color palette is amazing.
Thanks for your comment! Ektar has been on my radar for sure. I’ll have to see if my local film shop has some, I’d love to try it out!
Thank you for your images, brought back great memories of my second trip to Vermont a long time ago. The first trip the colors were amazing, bursting my retinas, but on my second trip the leaves had already peaked and the colors were like in your video, I still had an amazing time driving up and down the state.
Thanks so much for your comment. I’m glad I could bring back some memories! Vermont is on my bucket list for sure, I hear fall is magical there.
@@suchaphotoguy it is! but you gotta time it right, sometimes peak colors are in late September.
Good to know! Fall seemed to hit a little early here in Utah as well. Hopefully one day it all works out :)
Incredible video! Love the shots.
Thank you Nathan! I appreciate it.
this is beautiful
Thank you!
Nice job man, great landscape shots how good is that valley at 2:45 !!
Thank you so much! I love going up there throughout the year, but fall is definitely the best time!
Your photos are stellar! So so good, can’t wait to see more!
Anthony, thank you so much for your kind words! I plan to keep shooting film so should have another video out soon!

That was my first reaction to seeing these cars in person! Photos don’t do them justice. Many of them belong to @supercar_ron
wow!! so serene
Thank you!
love that first shot
Thank you! I appreciate it :)
Very cool to see you embrace analog photograohy. Did you get the pictures printed? Or did someone scan the negatives? Exposition seems way off... Did you use the camera metering? It seems someone really pushed the prints to get the best out of the pictures... Ilford film and a Nikon F2 can give you sooo much more in terms of contrast, shadows, sharpness... Keep shooting, scan your film. If you can, develope the film. Black and white is very easy to do and once you do it yourself you get consistency and can start to improve.
Hey Matt, thanks for the comment! I had a local lab do it. I think I may try a different one, I wasn’t super impressed. They developed and scanned it for me. As this was my first film roll, I have a lot to learn, so thanks for the advice! I used an app to meter as my battery died in my Nikon. Looking forward to shooting more!
Nice work! Keep it up!
Thank you Tom!
I agree. To get a look like the people that sold you the pre-set you pretty much need to start with an image made with the same lens and sensor and any camera settings. If you need to start tweaking the setting in Lightroom you might as well just create your own look and pre-sets.
Glad you agree Anthony! Thanks for the comment!
Hey man I'm in the slc area and I'd love to shoot with you some time! Great photos
Thanks for the comment Aiden! SLC is an awesome place to shoot. It would be super cool to do some kind of photo walk!
I'm actually surprised this wasn't a total fail. Pretty good pictures here! and welcome to this community.
Hey Fernando! I was surprised too. Having never used the camera before and not knowing whether it worked, I was happy to see each film slide come out looking ok! Thanks for the comment and you should check out my other film video! Have a good day!
This was great, Cole! You got some nice images!
Thanks Hugo! I think they turned out decent for my first roll! Hoping to get back out there and shoot some more! Thanks for the comment!
@@suchaphotoguy Absolutely!
Always interesting to see younger generations who are experiencing film.
Hey Michael! Thanks for the comment. The cameras I have were given to me by my grandfather, whose father owned that. I love experiencing film and thinking back to what it must've been like when it was one of the only ways to capture images. I look forward to shooting more! Thanks for the advice.
This shit goes dumby hard grandpa.
Thanks bruddah dap me up one time
Keep it up!
