I have to say Luke Newton’s interpretation of Colin reminded me a bit of the Richard Collier character: romantically unhinged, completely willing to be a fool for love when he finally realizes it, and at simultaneously witty and goofy 🥰

1:40 I am so happy someone else noticed this, too. I spent a long time trying to figure out why he does this. When he is with his family, giving them gifts from his travels, he is acting like Colin the rake. He’s in that persona, so he doesn’t say how many cities perhaps to come across as that nonchalant and suave Colin he’s trying to be. When he tells Penelope he visited 17 cities, he is being the real Colin with her and his guards are down. His mask slipped and yet he was okay with that because it’s his Pen. She also called him out on his bs the day before so maybe he realizes he can’t fool her into thinking rake Colin is real.
