Neotropic with double-breasted cormorants.
It's like a very short Beckett bird play. Neotropic cormorant hanging out with double-breasted cormorants. A juvenile Caspian turn enters causing a minor stir. There is tension in the air, but mostly in the audience's mind.

Happy Hairy Woodpecker Father's Day

We had a Hairy Woodpecker pair nest in the maple tree this year. It was impressive to see how devoted Mom and Dad were to giving their kids a good start in life. They were so patient and they worked so hard! I put this clip together to honour my own incredible Dad. Feel free to share if you think it will give your old man a smile!

Aurora as seen from North of Toronto

This was the most intense Aurora we've ever seen at our latitude. We had fast moving clouds, but really that added to the drama. In this short clip you can see pink and green shimmering curtains while the clouds and the background stars move. I should have made a longer timel apse, but was too mesmerized by what we were seeing. Note that I have increased the saturation slightly to highlight the...
Aurora as seen from North of Toronto

A short animation of the May 10, 2024 aurora captured about an hour north of Toronto. I increased the saturation slightly to bring out more detail in the curtains of pink and green. The animation is sped up to clearly show how the lights danced, while the clouds and stars also moved.

    Beautiful! We were in Port Dover. Had some clouds blocked it going into totality but it was all the more dramatic for the peeks we got of the corona through the clouds. I was wondering where you might be!

      Hi Jimmy - the people doing this are trained bird-banders and have a permit issued by the Canadian Bird Banding office under the authority of the Migratory Birds Convention Act. The birds are briefly caught, studied and banded. Researchers catalog the age, sex, size, fat content of each bird and then place a lightweight band on one of the bird's legs. Then the birds are quickly released unharmed. When banded birds are re-captured in different areas researchers can map migration patterns. These Snow Buntings are known to move from Greenland across Newfoundland, Quebec and Ontario and much of northern Canada. More information on the Canadian Snow Bunting Network project here: www.oliverlovelab.com/canadian-snow-bunting-network/ People should not try to catch any species of wild bird like this for the pet trade, food or whatever -- that can only lead to unnecessary and cruel bird death and local or complete extinction of a species.

      @@PenOpticon Thank you for replying to my comment. I am an absolute huge fan of wildlife and especially birds 🐦. I know that in some countries Bird trapping is still not illegal and it breaks my heart to see a wild breed bird imprisoned in a cage...Thanks again for educating us on your wonderful research. Regards. Jimmy

    Thank you for sharing. This morning I saw 13 deer at dawn. I watched them as they all watched me. I had the fantasy that one would walk up to me. I stood for a time and so did they keeping their eyes on me. I have the idea that I will go back and see them again. I thought about bringing food and then decided against it after reading a short article about the negative effects feeding wild animals can have on them. It made my day seeing them. Such beautiful and graceful creatures.

    At 47 seconds one bird ran out of the cage and he ran from the opposite wall across the cage and out in a straight line. So, I can’t figure out why the others can’t get out.

      These Snow Buntings enter the traps to eat corn. Researchers extract the birds safely to measure and weigh them - and also band them. Then the birds are quickly released. This makes it possible to study their migration pattern and assess the health of the flock. Thanks for checking it out.

      This approach only works for a few species like Snow Buntings that flock in these corn fields. Only a few birds are caught and then they banded and released. This helps track their health and migration patterns.

    he does not say that growth is bad, nor is he saying that policy caused recessions... Non spending has a negative effective on circulation because no new debt gets circulated. The whole financial system, particularly in USA is based on debt and when hyper inflation hits its gonna all fall apart.. There is a lot of info on this if you look. The banking system needs major reform but it is likely too late.

  • @ilitt59
    @ilitt59 11 років тому

    Recessions tend to occur when people get scared and stop spending / taking out loans. We need currency to flow and we need the debt to maintain our current unsustainable approach to finances and the economic system. Our currency is fully based on debt, therefore lack. Do some more digging and you will begin to see. The banks, governments and big corporations do not want you to know this data. Enquire and research some more
