    Very cool! Question (since all the vocals here seem to be on a static one-note), can you fry-scream on melodies as well, and could you teach that?

    • @Vladek060
      @Vladek060 Місяць тому

      Hello thanks for the comment! Yes, when we learn to sing melodies and distort them with fry screams we try to learn them in the falsetto singing technique. You could learn them in normal chest voice, but I found out it is easier to distortet in fry if you are using falsetto or head voice.

    Trained vocalist here! There's a problem with this way to learn. Wich basicaly is that there is no breath support and no way to use breath support when using the angry sigh technique. Let's be real, when we use that sound it hurts the troath like hell and we run out of breath in like 4 seconds beacause no compressions is used to produce this sound. A more proper way to find the false chords is by trying to push something that can't be moved at all and making that kind of grunty noise we produce when putting lots of effort (basicaly troath singing). This automaticly activates the false chords as well as putting in practice compression and breath support. Note that my intent is to clarify that it's the easy way to do it but not the propper one if someone wishes to have a career in music. I hope you'll see this comment

    The problem with using vocal fry to get fry is that without personal coaching there is a high chance to end up with a harmful and useless form of distortion. Also vocal fry will most likely lead to vocal fold fry which can be unsafe

    I can feel it in my soft palate. It doesn't hurt, but it is uncomfortable. Am I doing it incorrectly?

    • @inceptionsd
      @inceptionsd 3 місяці тому

      As long as it doesn't hurt you are good, however if it feels uncomfortable try to push the source of the sound more towards the back. My suggestion would be first to get a proper starting point, so you learn what it should feel like and where the distortion should come from, so first thing you do is close your vocal folds completely by holding your breath (don't inhale all the way, just a bit) and then try to push air through closed vocal folds, but keep in mind that you should push from your abdomen (same like when trying to poop) not from your throat. We just want to push already compressed air through a very tiny spot in our vocal folds, not compress the air with them, if that makes sense. Maybe learning to sing clean with compression would help you with diaphragm control (this is crucial since you can easily mess up your voice when practicing screaming if you don't know how to push the air).

    is it harder to learn this as a woman? i can't even get that sound down in the sigh without voice

    • @inceptionsd
      @inceptionsd 3 місяці тому

      There is no difference between male and female voice box in terms of function/structure, so no, I don't see why it would it be more or less difficult for a woman. One thing you should have in mind is that men have longer and/or thicker true vocal folds, thus having a deeper voice on average, however that shouldn't matter for pure false chord screams, since they don't primarily rely on true vocal folds. Just don't try to sound like some guy you like, experiment with your own voice and find your own distinctive sound, because we all have different and unique sounds. Being aware of what you do and being persistent with practice will pay off in a long run. Don't rush it!

    • @qrwtaaaa
      @qrwtaaaa 3 місяці тому

      @@inceptionsd there's actually a female vocalist i look up to quite a lot, her name is Ado. i understand it takes time but im really confused about how i should approach this considering i can't even get that basic heavy sigh down. it just doesn't make that noise

    • @inceptionsd
      @inceptionsd 3 місяці тому

      @@qrwtaaaa Don't expect to sound good at first and don't compare the sound you make with those of experienced screamers out there. Your vocal box is made out of many muscles which need to be trained, like any other muscle in your body. Like diaphragm, too. So goof around, make weird noises, play with different tones, techniques and over time your body will get stronger and adjust. Just don't rush it. False chord was and still is tricky for me, too so don't feel discouraged!

    • @MrPersonGuy1000
      @MrPersonGuy1000 3 місяці тому

      @@qrwtaaaa Courtney LaPlante, and Tatiana Shmailyuk are some incredibly talented female vocalists you could listen to and see if that helps it click better. Lauren Babic has tutorials as well. If it helps there are a lot of different methods you can use to find your false folds. You could also look up throat singing tutorials as the exercises and techniques are genuinely very helpful in refining your control

    • @Vladek060
      @Vladek060 3 місяці тому

      No there isn't any real difference between learning this as a woman or man. I have students many of them girls as well and they to can sound quite powerful. If you don't feel like you can get down the sigh without voice that's ok. Focus on doing a frustrated sound and try to push it out as comfortably as you can. This practice is really good because eventually how you get better this practice too will get better, but it's a great warm-up practice.

    Well, if you haven't sang in a while, OR, are just starting out, a little pain and discomfort isn't necessarily bad, because yo'ure flapping those secondary folds together that aren't used for much outside of metal vocals, and your muscles have gotten out of shape... or in the case of being new, they've never been IN SHAPE.... so its a great idea to do it CORRECTLY, and keep an eye on any MILD PAIN AND DISCOMFORT, as these are your signs that you need to start wrapping up practice and give them a rest. But there is a DIFFERENCE from that slight mild pain and discomfort when you first start or haven't done it in a while to ACTUAL pain from doing it wrong or too hard or for too long. I use the pain/discomfort like this.... if I haven't sang in a while, when I start feeling discomfort, I go for about 5 more minutes, then stop. IF, during that 5 minutes, the pain increases, I stop right then. I give it a day to relax and regroup, then the next practice day is USUALLY pain free.... Also, practice for short amounts of time, ESPECIALLY when you're new or haven't been doing it for a while.... 5-15 minutes MAX. Also, one of the BIGGEST causes of pain is PUSHING TOO HARD TO BE LOUD. Volume comes with practice, relaxation, and time.... and since we have microphones in our modern age, its better to sound GOOD and be able to do it for a whole SHOW, than it is to sound LOUD. So an easy trick i do, especially on stage, if I feel discomfort during a performance, I simply just reduce the volume and get closer to the microphone.

    I think with more practice and a quiet place where I can do it freely, I will get better. Doing this at work in my office is giving me the giggles and maintenance comes in randomly and I don't want to spook them. 🤣 So far I think I have it down. My throat doesn't hurt afterwards so that's a good sign.

      @excelfan85 3 місяці тому

      Hey mate that is exactly it. Time and practice. At first you can over project or squeeze to tight but time helps you learn, to relax and make space, which helps you project. Its a series of sensations you'll feel and only later will explanations make more sense. Keep at it any chance you get. The last factor that is missing is the context of music. Screams can sound like crap acapella but amazing in the context of a song. You may feel like your screams aren't good enough right up till you hear them with music, then it'll make more sense. Also practice the foundations of a low, mid and high. I've covered up my weak point forever with tongue position overtones, to the point its habbit. Now i am working on the basics then adding mouth shape and tongue position. You will get it be patient and dont try to be someone else and sound like them, learn the techniques and sound like you. That last one is the hardest.

      I don't know those bands but after listening to some of his albums and live performance I'd say he mainly uses false chord highs. Very raw, and fry is much more technical and modern, so I don't really hear any fry in his vocals.
