I used to use Griffin oils and smell is awful for me. They're filled with alkyd resin (same as Liquin as smell the same). I moved to water mixable oils (Cobra and Holbein Dou Aqua) and thinners helps them to dry like acrylics. Seriously! I use them for underpainting with Winton brush.

Thank you for articulating and showing your process. I love the simplicity of this rural scene. I grew up in a place not unlike this, on the Canadian prairies, and this is a nostalgic bath as well as a solid tutorial. 💐

I first learned art by using colored, charcoal, and graphite pencils. Initially, I drew human portraits and then, drew birds, birds, birds because they are so colorful. I love the soft edge on the bird.

I like how you did not make the oil painting identical to the watercolor. There are probably hundreds of ways to paint this scene so it was nice to see two different versions. I am going to approach painting with the thought that some of them are just for fun and practice. I do not have to put pressure on myself to do serious paintings all of the time. I am not looking to sell anything. I am doing this for my pleasure so I need to have fun. Thank you.

What was the colour you used first ? Did you mix them all with turpentine ? I’ don’t want to use turpentine or any solvents if I can ? Do you recommend anything else instead for under coat thinners ? 🥰 I’m leaning and I’m just loving it !
