What fun.
Thank you for sharing the video with me. I'm glad you were all having fun with the dance and the music.
Yes...great playing. That video named "Mary Erskine"what great tunes, hornpipe like,I don't know the names of the tunes.Scotland can LEARN from the RSCDS branches up here. But all this was caused by BBC pressure.in the UK brancheThey wanted to get rid of the acordion in order to promote the "Celtic Connections",or Celtic Confectionaries"as called by the initiated.Heaven thanks they lost the battle!!!!
very few folk dance the last turn correctly. They fudge it. The last turn ends with another turn in 2 bars before setting on the sidelines. Well done this dem team!! Derboy (Scotland)

Nice fun dance. Any idea what the music used was?
I'm pretty sure it is the music used for Reel of the 51st Division.
Yes ^___^
The Cocket Hats
Sorry to disappoint you but this is not the Fireside Reel, the dance you are dancing is is The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh.
+LadyAliceFrances Thank you for your information :p
It's kind of the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, except where it's been changed (e.g., in the D&DoE the dancing couple cast into mirror figures of eight instead of leading down the middle).

Ha! Never knew that The Dashing White Sergeant was called 急軍曹 in Chinese.
Come on, ladies, smile when you dance. It's suppose to be fun.
Wonderful! In Scotland, it is my experience that: After the balance setting we do a two handed turn and near the start, (after the cast-off) the man presents, (and sometimes even introduces) his partner to the man that she is about to set to. As a former teacher of SCD in both England and Scotland I approve of this lovely display of culture. Thank you for sharing.
Great stooff. Just one wee comment, if I may: No doubt about the sex of the gentleman in the smart blue shirt and braces, or the other fine men. BUT could the Lassies who danced as Lads be persuaded to don what I think is customary, viz., the sash whenever a woman dances a man. This would be of considerable help to those who watch to learn, as well as to enjoy, which I most certainly did, and will again in a minute, when I play it again, Sam.
Nice one. And isn't it nice to see young people in faraway Homg Kong, participating with such enthusiasm and skill, born no doubt of their appreciation of the wonderfu lmusic and companionship. So much better, cheaper and healthier than getting "smashed" every Friday and Saturday the Alcohol Emporiums which dominate just about every nice toon in England.
It's awesome to come back to Scottish Country Dance after several years of being lazy and to see that it's everywhere, worldwide. <3 That makes me happy.
