GTS 2021: What’s on the mind of the Indiana environmental community?
The video failed to state the generating capacity of the Michigan City Power Station. Wiki has it at 680 MWe which is less than a gigawatt placing it in the medium size power stations which for coal means it has a large staff for the amount of electricity it generates. If it was built in 1931 without a modern replacement using the same basic technology it is inefficient and having to use low BTU Powder River Basin coal to meet sulfur dioxide emission requirements that requires 50% more of that low BTU coal than high BTU bituminous coal with cost that much more in shipping expense. Large staffing needs, inefficient coal burning, inefficient thermal cycle and having to use 50% more coal than its original configuration means this plant is likely providing affordable electricity, but does not have money left over for large changes. The plant is in an excellent location for supplying large industrial users of electricity which in the near future could include super large data centers in close proximity to the Chicago area. There is discussion of super large data centers having electric power demands in the gigawatts! The site has access to Great Lakes shipping for coal delivery along with great railroad access. This makes the site a good possible candidate for a new large 3 GW ultra supercritical modern coal plant able to burn high BTU coal. This would supersede the older plant and many of the more expensive to fuel power generation stations including natural gas electric power stations around the greater Chicago area. During the reconstruction the coal bottom ash storage could be dealt with in a more permanent manor. Overall the new 3GW+ plant having much greater efficiency and able to spread the large coal plant staffing needs over a large generating capacity should offer cheaper cost of electricity over other sources able to absorb the costs of addressing the bottom coal ash on site storage. Ultra supercritical modern clean burning coal plants should have a cross over running fuel cost with natural gas turbine combined steam cycle generating plants at $0.80 per million BTUs of natural gas where natural gas wholesale markets in 2024 are hovering a bit below $3 per million BTUs natural gas. Unlike coal plants that can stockpile weeks and even sometimes months of coal, natural gas electric power stations have little to no stockpiling of natural gas making them subject to natural gas shortages and spot market prices that can be many times higher. This large advantage in fueling cost of coal over natural gas is likely to continue with natural gas more likely to increase in cost over coal in the next decade. A cheaper incremental cost for electricity would be a new nuclear electric power station.
Thanks we're in town visiting, I was curious about how a "red state" manages their coal use.
Thank-you for educating us. I appreciate this excellent information. Especially the Q&A at the end.
Well, Nipsco will be torn down.
I used to work for a company that would go in and blow up all the hardened coal and clean it out from the biild up on the walls
Back when i worked at the oitlet mall around 1988 and all our calls used to get our cars covered with the ash..
NiSource (NIPSCO's parent company) is a Fortune 500 company, so it's not like they can't afford it.
this dude about gay as hell
this woman definitely doing drugs
Where do the put coal ash to get rid of it?
I have been gone from Michigan City out west for 50 years now. My uncle worked at nights in the guard shack for some years back in the 60s . Thankyou for the video. Brings back memories.
Outstanding video!

Thank you for the clear and concise overview of this bill! This was very helpful.

Thanks to the HEC for your continued effort to educate Hoosiers on how the industry is negatively impacting our environment and violating our property rights. Thanks to the former governor, Mitch Daniels, he invited the worst operators from North Carolina to set up shop in Indiana.
You live out in the country where food is made by a farmer..... where do you think farmer is suppose to raise livestock. In the middle of the asile at friggen wallmart?
We won the the law suit at the state and county level and now it’s at the supreme level.
Rob Carbery we won the lawsuit at the county and state level and it’s at the supreme level now
the idea is to reduce the counties population
They always give the worst bills such reasonable, pretty names.
Thank you Kim,... very nice presentation but much more needs to done...
Ever Hoosier threatened by pollution ought to have an ally. 4 groups have represented those who would be harmed by prospective coal plants in southern IN. HEC has chosen instead to put substantial resources to represent Hoosiers who are at risk from other significant threats: polluting factory farms, tar sands, lakeshore industrial waste, forest destruction. HEC is nevertheless also involved in coal mining & coal ash issues, advocating for coal alternatives & concluding coal plant litigation.
good job

Thanks for your suggestion, Ernest. We do plan to release more videos during the legislative session to provide key calls to action, though since the legislative session is ever-changing, our Bill Watch page will still be the central, go-to place.
Can you please provide a follow up video with the Legislative details. It might also be a good idea to do a UA-cam video series of your Bill Watch page, it is much quicker and easy to listen to audio and visual information. Thanks for your work and good luck
I have another One , The Stadium the Colts use with the NFL that the tax payers are paying for , Force the NFL or the Colts to buy it and & repeal the tax code Via Referendum Ballot or convert it to a sewage treatment plant
Where was this respect of voting rights of the state via referendum ballot vote that never was done 4 the I-69 project, thus its Action in motion is partly unconstitutional for the lack of such votes was ever done , thus constructive treason for the lack of such Votes to be a conclusion of the Legislators for it viewed conflection with the 2010 ballot vote to pass a cap on the tax code. ?
The Arguments of these famers is more or less the same thing the Native Amercian have beed fighting for years made worse with the signing of the daws Act of 1887, and not to for get the genocide, now The Land Trust Debates ,,,So how does if feel to get screwed
Jenkins v. McKeithen (456 US 411 421 (1969); Picking v. Penna Ry. Co (151 Fed 2nd 240); Pucket v. Cox (456 Fed 2nd 233); Haines v. Kerner, et.al. (429 F. 2d 71 (1972)); Conley v. Gibson (355 US 41, 45-6 (1957)); Dioguardi v. During (139 F. 2d 774 (1948)).
Notice: The respondent in this action is a non-lawyer and is moving forward in propia persona. Hanes v. Kerner (92 S Ct 594) pro se pleadings are to be considered without regard to technicality; prose litigants" pleadings are not to be held to the same high standards of perfection as lawyers.
Note Counter Suits can be filed Pro Se , forma pauperis backed By Indiana Constitution article 1 sections 12 at no Cost on a States right level , for its starts with states rights!
seams to be me some of this could be on a 4th Amendment value
another view point , What about the failure to secure the States rights of a referendum ballot vote that should have been done to carry this out, based on sub topic points the Constitutional point much of this is in conflection with the 2010 mid term Referendum Ballot vote that so passed a cap on the inidiana states tax code that goes in sub point of support for this Joint Federal State Act , 1st Amendment petition of redress of grievances violations !??
One other point if the federal or State Government isn't seeking to uphold the laws that's your 1st Amendment petition of redress of grievances as for to hear or protect your right under the law Violating Civil Rights Or Interfering With thus so making those Appointed & or Elected lible in federal Courts U.S. Tilte 42 usc section 1983 & Title 42 USC § 1985 Conspiracy to interfere with civil rights Title 42 U.S.C. § 1986. Action for neglect to prevent conspiracy thus Constructive treason ?
Question to what degree has any of the Home owners and land owner sought to use another view point to hault the or at best slow it up to give more time to fight it , Like The Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act I would start with a phone call 715-634-5226 and ask or Google {IndianCountryNews . com} and ask about such pre dig laws,
