What's REALLY Going on at GREAT SALT LAKE Utah?
The Great Salt Lake and its islands provide outstanding scenery and recreational opportunities in northern Utah. Sunsets over the lake can be breathtaking. Amazing red, orange, lavender and magenta hues slowly dissolve in the evening sky. The lake's turquoise waters attract sailors, its white sand beaches are popular with swimmers and sunbathers, and craggy outcroppings on Antelope Island and some shoreline areas draw hikers and mountain bikers.

      Yes Jaynee and I support Canteen in Australia. Jaynee is a survivor and we count ourselves so lucky and blessed. (Cancer treatment in Australia is effectively free) If we can give back just a little to help other families, particularly in the USA which has given us so much support, that will be more than enough reward for all our efforts. Thank you so much for your support.

    Those are not fire ants, those are red harvester ants. They are the primary food source of the horned toad.

    • @AnchorsAwayRV
      @AnchorsAwayRV Місяць тому

      Yes, I have to agree with you, after being properly attacked by fire ants at Poverty Point the reaction to the sting was completely different. The fire ant sting produced a puss filled reaction but the ants at Lake Trammel produced more of a bee sting reaction and they were way less aggressive. Thank you for your informed comment, we like to get things right but sometimes we miss the bulls eye.

    • @AnchorsAwayRV
      @AnchorsAwayRV Місяць тому

      Boo is 22 years old right now, it is very sad that Cari died during the first hibernation. The bears were of course name Cari and Boo as in Cariboo. The kicking horse sanctuary is I understand actively seeking another bear. Not sure if this is a potential replacement or for company, but male bears are somewhat solitary. There is a story that I was unable to verify that the two cubs were chained up at a used car sales lot prior to them being rescued being used as promotional gimmicks. However as mentioned I was unable to verify this.

      Boquillas del Carmen is a small Mexican village on the eastern side of Big Bend National Park. It has an international port of entry to cross the Rio Grande. To cross, U.S. and Canadian citizens need a valid passport. Boquillas del Carmen is a very small and VERY safe community. Problem with "common sense" is its just not that common.

    While we were staying at Glacier National Park we rode the red tour bus on the Going to the Sun Road. Spectacular scenery. At one point a grizzly walked on the ridge above us. Now that was hair raising but not really scary. We made a round trip back to the lodge. As I was driving I chose not to drive the Going to the Sun Road to Whitefish. It was just too scary with back to back cars and red buses. Great experience.

    My girlfriend and I (both retirees from the East Coast) are planning a long road trip in October. We were going to go as far as Medora and then start working our way through South Dakota and Wyoming. What was your overall impression of that North Dakota area?

    • @AnchorsAwayRV
      @AnchorsAwayRV 4 місяці тому

      Jaynee and I are currently on our cruise, we want to give this reply the appropriate response. There is so much which is intrinsically valuable in this region of the US. Rest assured as soon as we step of the cruise we will add to this reply.

    • @AnchorsAwayRV
      @AnchorsAwayRV 4 місяці тому

      Hi Tony, so here is the long answer. South Dakota, Sioux Falls, Minuteman Missile National historic Site, Badlands National park is a great day trip if you like getting outdoors, Then all round Rapid City there is heaps to see and do, Custer State park is a fairly small area, probably 3 hours to complete, but then big ticket items, Rushmore, Crazy horse, Needles highway. South Dakota is high on our list to revisit if we have time. We have not finished Wyoming, but another fantastic area to visit and explore, Devils Tower is remarkable. North Dakota is another state on our revisit list, Medora is a standout, Theodore Roosevelt National Park we repeated our visits. My overall rating for the 4 states combined, Nt and St Dakota, Wyoming and Montana is 10/10. Based on where we have been so far, if I had to choose one to live in it would be eastern Montana to give clear access to these 4 fantastic states. Now bear in mind Jaynee and I like to get out into nature and see all of that which is on offer. I hope this helps. Brent & Jaynee

    All the tribes in the Western Hemisphere were prehistoric until Europeans began recording their existence in 1492 because THEY HAD NO WRITTEN LANGUAGES AND DID NOT UNDERSTAND WHAT HISTORY EVEN MEANT.

    • @AnchorsAwayRV
      @AnchorsAwayRV 6 місяців тому

      That is partially true, When Europeans first made contact with North American Indigenous Peoples, they did not have a known writing system. Instead, they relied on oral histories to pass down their traditions and culture through storytelling thus had a vivid understanding of history and its influence on the present day. Tribal elders would share vivid narratives about their history, customs, rituals, and legends with younger generations, unlike the Maya, Aztecs, Mixtecs, and Zapotecs of Mesoamerica who had native writing systems. Not sure what the shouty bit at the end is about though?

      @AnchorsAwayRV 7 місяців тому

      We have been traveling around for a while now, the tips are not a problem, its pretty much just the service industry, so restaurants etc and you know about it before you head out and build it in. The taxes caught us out when we first got here, they are not posted on the price, it gets added at check out, in Australia the price has to include taxes. So a couple of times Jaynee went back to query the price... we are used to that now. But this was the first time to be charged for the use of a beach. Now I get what the other bloke said, we have similar stuff built into our rates in Australia to give us free entry into places and similar perks. I guess the state parks don't run on fresh air so need to get revenue how ever they can.

Like someone to come cut the grass empty trash cans or something along those lines.$9 does seem like a lot if it’s not just a one time thing. Are you staying with any locals? If you are I’d imagine they wouldn’t have to pay and can bring visitors. That’s how it is at my uncle’s. But they have boat slips and a boat ramp that people use.

    Roadtrippers is trash as everyone who has used it will agree.

      Well I did give it a shot, but it was well lacking in the usability. They would have been better off trying to roll aspects of their Roadtrippers into Campendium. Thanks for your support.

      At some point, I will list out all of the repairs and costs. I am curious, Was it better to go cheap on the purchase and deal with the issues? or should we have spent more at the start.

      Its our home, so if we don't maintain it it will become very yucky inside. Jaynee thinks it smells bad enough with just me living in it. 🤣
