This happens to me all the time. I have no spotter as I workout in my shed. What I do is, I leave the collars off. This way when I know I'm going to fail, I tilt and let weight slide off as controlled as possible. Currently I am only lifting weight I know I can do reps with, as that just seems to be the better idea.
Just buy 12" spotter arms. Way safer especially if the weight slips. You can also go to absolute failure with them.
Please use a better grip.......... Also don't bench alone

tip is you using the foam balls - drill a small hole in bottom of mold, big enough to feed a tiny rope or fishing line through. Have the line around the ball and adjust it rope length so ball will float to center of mold. You can use your hands to keep it centered left/right but it will not float to top.
I love the design of this, wish more gyms had something designed similar much more safer than getting squashed with the traditional bar
