Looks amazing ❤
Thank you 😋
My goodness!!! This is a solid masterpiece 🤩🤩🤩🤩 I am shocked it’s not getting the views it deserves at this moment… really REALLY Gorgeous work here 💜💜💜
Thank you so much!!
This is pretty technical for me, a beginning painter with no art education. But you've explained it clearly; I'm going to come back to this again. I have Carlson's book that looks like it will be pretty dense! Thank you!
Thanks for your feedback on my video! Glad it was helpful. Enjoy Carlson’s book!
👏👏👏
😊
Good job you are a great artist.❤
@@ericacordobilha1014 thanks a million! 🙏💕
Where could I buy this type of palette knife? The two that are your favourite most used I mean.
@@kathleenwerner5663 this is the palette knife reference PEBEO PALETTE KNIFE 100/114. This is the one I use the most. The other one is a larger version of it, but the same shape. I also like the skinny one, like this RGM NEW AGE PASTRELLO PALETTE KNIFE H01 #43 for small details, like painting stamens and etc. I don’t know which country you’re in but check these ones on google and see if there is a similar or the same there. Cheers!
Thanks - this is an excellent review of an extraordinary artist. I'd love to see you review Sorolla as well.
@@susanehoffman thanks for you comment1 Sorolla episode is on the way, it’s the next video to publish.
Your painting is stunning! Thank you for sharing your knowledge ❤
Thank you so much!☺️
Exquisitely rendered ❤
How are these paintings not viral yet, you're amazing
Thank you so much!
Thank you. I haven’t used the Zorn palette in a long time. This was inspiring. I found that if I use Gamblin’s Chromatic Black, it is possible to get some pretty blues and greens. At least they appear blue and green in relation to the other colors. Again, thank you. I enjoy your videos so much.
Thanks for your comment and for sharing your experience about using Chromatic Black, Karen! Glad to hear you enjoy the videos!
Thank you for sharing your insights and skills.
You're welcome! thank you for your comment!
Beautiful painting.
Thanks a lot! 🙏☺️
Thank You. Your video was very informative and visually a delight. TL
thanks for watching and for your feedback!
Amazing talent I wish one day I can be like you.
Thank you so much! Happy painting! 🙏☺️

Thanks for your comment! It’s amazing to hear John was your Great x3 Grandfather! What an amazing artistic family!

That was the clearest explanation of colour I have seen. Thank you, made so much sense!
Thanks for your feedback! I’m glad to hear the video has been helpful! Happy painting!
Very informative
Excellent, thank you!
Your videos are so helpful! And your work is magnificent ❤
Thank you so much for your feedback! I’m glad to hear the videos are helpful! Happy painting!
Perfect ❤ BR!!
Black?
Excellent dive into complementary color. Have you thought of adding a dimension to discussions of brush strokes -- by showing your brush as you create similar passages, kind of a laboratory example/demo?
That’s a good idea Dave! Thanks for your feedback. Will do that for the next episode.
just found you and loving this video! I will explore your other videos; would love to take classes with you!
Thank you! I’m glad to hear you’ve enjoyed the videos. You can see more details about lessons on my website. You can email me there if you have any questions. www.liviadias.com
I would love to hear you talk about SOROLLA'S WORK😊
Thanks for your comment! Sorolla will be featured on Episode #3.

Thank you!😊
Hi there. I'm a new subscriber to your channel. It is really fantastic and very useful to me.I'm a beginner watercolorist and I paint flowers from my garden everyday for practice.I just purchased your tutorial on Sorolla's use of value and colour and I'm just beginning to start the lessons.I love colours but don't know much about their applications yet but I'm learning.I love Sargent and Sorolla the best..and your explanation of their work is the best I've seen, so thank you very much.
Hi there, thank you so much for your comment! Much appreciated. What a great thing you are doing, painting every day from life to practice your art. You are on the right path, keep practicing and learning! It’s great to see your excitement to learn. Enjoy the journey!
Marvelous Liu❤
Eh….dont you ser that t Your colors arent fullt grey? This wasnt very helpfull. I was trying to find out How to mix a full range value-neutrals. To make a greyscale painting or ex graisille underpainting But you just showed How to make a fee somewhat grey with a little blue orange red tint x)
A continuous stream of really good (and interesting) information. Your color-based explications of Sargent and Monet works were especially compelling. Your appreciation and excitement really came through strongly. Have you thought of a series of expert looks at your favorite paintings from the history of art? Maybe even moments when you cut away from the original and quickly brush or knife in a re-creation of this or that especially good passage? EDIT: 'series of expert looks' - just as you did with Sorolla in the 2017 time frame (having just discovered you, I'm going through your youTubes one by one and hadn't seen your Sorolla videos when I first look at this one on focal point / color).
hi Dave, thanks for your suggestion, I appreciated that. That's a good idea for videos. I will consider it for some future videos and will find a way to link the techniques and concepts with great artists' works from the past . Thanks for watching my other videos. New video is coming out in a few days!
Nice reminder of a very useful distinction, well done.
Thank you! Glad you liked it! 🙏😊
New subscriber here... Very nice balance between loose and detailed work -- or rather, work that captures the essence of detail without the academic, photo-realistic approach. On your website, it was difficult to find your cafe au lait dahlia course from the link in your website. However, I did find it by searching in another way. Will be signing up once I gather all my pennies together...
Hi Dave, thanks for your comment, subscribing and for purchasing the Dahlia tutorial. May I ask you if the link you found difficult was here on the UA-cam description, or on my courses page on my website? Many thanks! Livia
Just found the broken link! Thanks for letting me know. I updated every button and link few months ago, but forgot about that one!
Thanks! Great explanation!
Well done Liu! ❤
great ideas, thanks
Hi Livia, I am one of your new students and finished your rose painting class. As usual, your teaching is great! I have Carlson’s book and it’s a must have. Rhonda
Lovely to hear from you Rhonda! Thanks for your lovely comment! Glad to hear you have Carlson’s book! It’s a great book!
That brought me good memories from your painting's classes Liu. Love ❤
Aww, thanks Eline! It's lovely to hear that. Good memories! Saudades! ❤
Moooito boa! I learned a lot. but, I fear, not enough to accomplish that final painting. Nossa...
Thank you Livia. I am watching your videos one by one and I have joined your online classes. You’re an excellent teacher. Having given up painting after 20 years with mediocre to only good results, I walked away. I hit a plateau and couldn’t improve. I was actually depressed thinking I cannot do better. But NOW, having seen your wonderful techniques, I painted a rose from my own garden and nearly cried. I am renewed and encouraged! Thank you SO MUCH for giving me much needed knowledge and understanding. 🥰
Hi there, thanks for sharing a bit of your story and for the feedback. I’m pleased to hear that you are enjoying the lessons and that it’s been refreshing to you. Well done at painting a rose from your garden, that’s great! We have so much inspiration around us, don’t we?! and for me it’s specially in gardens. Keep up the good work! Happy painting!
Livia, THANK YOU! Watching how you mix your colors was relaxing. I thought I knew how to mix colors - ha, ha! You are masterful at it. I don’t even have Magenta and see now I need it. I love Chromium Green. And I have it! ☺️ I also have Transparent Oxide Red but never considered using it for this, only toning backgrounds. I have Alizarin Crimson and use it but not very happy with results. What do you like it for? Your Ultramarine Blue looks rather pale almost like a Cobalt Blue. ?? I learned from your video - RBY vs. CMY Thank you for that, too! I learned SO much from this. And I have subscribed, liked and enrolled in a course last night. Happy New Year! 🧑🏻🎨
Hi there! Thank you for your lovely comment and feedback. I’m glad to hear that you have enjoyed my videos and that they’ve been helpful. Thanks for joining one of my courses and for subscribing to my channel! Re the colours, I use magenta and Ruby Red most of the time when I need to mix pinkish colours. Then Cadmium red or similar and Crimson red when painting red things like red flowers for example. Crimson is redder than Alizarin Crimson and deeper than cadmium red light or medium. Some brands make this type of Crimson but not all brands. A similar colour would be cadmium red deep. I don’t use alizarin much, but when I do it’s mostly to dull colours, say to grey a blue to mix sky colour, of for the clouds colours. I find it quite a dull colour, it would also be good for deeper parts of red flowers for example. Btw, my Ultramarine Blue may look slightly lighter on the video than it really is. It resembles Cobalt Blue but much deeper and has more tinting strength. Happy New Year to you too! 🙏😊
Wonderful! You make it look easy. Thank you. 😊
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed it!
Marvelous Liu! ❤
Thanks a lot!
